Notes from the Wandering Mind of Dave...
Hey, Fellow Parrot Heads....
We’ve had a very fun and busy first half of the year.... and it’s not
going to be stopping any time soon!
It’s time for our 12th Birthday Bash and it’s shaping up to be a good
one too. All the details are in this newsletter, but I wanted to let you know
that there will be plenty of live music, food and fun to be had all weekend
long. Our silent auction and raffles will benefit Mote Marine Dive
Operations/Research and Reefball Foundation (funding for our next phase
of Parrot Head Reef.) It’s going to be a great time and I look forward to seeing a pool full of parrot heads all weekend long.
Thanks you to everyone that has been planning/helping or participating in our events and projects this year! Alzheimer’s Memory Walk was
an all time high fundraising accomplishment, Polo Tailgate Parties were a
blast and Survivor V Games last weekend were outstanding.
Elections are at this month’s social meeting for our Not Bored of
Directors. Please come out and vote! This year we have more candidates
than positions so your vote really will count! Every year we have 11 positions on the general board and 2 of our executive seats. I would like to
thank our current board for their hard work and dedication, you have made
our club one of the best in the country...( if not The Best!) I am sorry to see
some of you leaving the board but happy to know you are not running away
and we can count on your help as needed. To everyone running for a position on the next board, I look forward to working with you, hearing your
new ideas and insites. For those that do not make the Board, I hope you can
share your enthusiasm for the club by joining a committee.
Time for some fun in the sun- it’s Summer! We have Tuesday on the
Island Sunset socials, Raft-Up Parties, LeBarge Sunset Charter... all great
times to be had outside with good friends.... Check the calendar so you
don’t miss any of the fun!

ALZHEIMER'S MEMORY WALK
PARTYING WITH A PURPOSE ~ YES WE DID!
In the early morning hours of April 5th, parrot heads gathered at the gazebo in downtown Venice. Some came
with coffee, others came with mimosas, but they all came to make sure we had the most successful Alzheimer's
Memory Walk ever. At 9 A.M. the SBPHC led the walk…west on Venice Avenue, down the Esplanade and back.
After a three mile walk, a few dances and many photos… the dust had cleared, we came away with three trophies:
Most Money Raised: $17,000.+
Most Walkers: 76
Title Sponsor: the highest level of sponsorship
After all that hard work, there had to be a Victory Party….so parrot heads and a few guests from Alzheimer's
met at Caspersen Beach for a much deserved time of relaxation, food and a few adult beverages.
This is the largest single monetary donation that our club has ever made and it would not have happened without the hard work of many people. A special thanks to all those who ask you friends and family for donations, the
brave soles that manned the tiki bars at concerts and polo matches, those who participated in the golf outing and yes,
those who pulled off over 180,000 aluminum pull tabs. We owe many thanks also to all who walked on Saturday,
the people behind the scenes that put the victory party together and everyone that participated in any way.
Keep your fins up…

“Magic of the Music” ......
The Caribbean Chillers
The Caribbean Chillers, Florida's
Premier 14pc Jimmy Buffett Tribute
Show, was formed in the winter of 2004
by longtime Buffett Singer/Guitarist,
Jason Webb. After 20+ years performing
Buffett's music as a Solo/Duo/Trio act,
Jason decided it was time to put together
a "Buffett Tribute Act" and promote it as
a "specialty" act. That way, I'd be one of
the "few", not simply the next cover band
on the scene - like the ones I had in the
mid 80's.
We started out with 7pcs and was
received fairly well, then two things happened to give us the shot in the arm the
band needed, and allow me to form the
group I had really wanted for a long time.
First, we were lucky enough to
pick up a 3pc Horn Section, and second,
Buffett released "5 O'clock Somewhere",
which was an instant hit, and gave him
the recognition with a lot of old and a
bunch of new fans.
His new found success actually
helped us get off of the ground quicker
because a lot more people wanted to hear
his music, and we started getting booked
on a semi-regular basis.
Some of the members changed,
and the band grew to 12pcs, plus Dancers
and Stiltwalkers in 2005, and that allowed
us to book ourselves as a "Show", not just
as a Band. Once again, trying to carve
out a niche for ourselves, rather than be
one of many "Buffett Bands" available.
People who book the "Show" are
looking to be entertained more along the
lines of a "concert event", not as a dance
party. I was told that we'd lose some gigs
doing it that way, but the ones we'd get
would pay very well, and involve some
really great locations and perks. I was
also told to "hold my ground" and promote the "Show" as much as possible
because the end result would be very positive. Both of those things have happened.
We've performed from Key West
to Boston, to South Bend, to Marco
Island, and are booked in Islamorada,
Connecticut, Gulfport, and Ft. Hays, KS -
as well as Palm Harbor and South Beach
this year. That's pretty neat for a guy who
began singing Jimmy Buffett for $25 a
night in Winter Park, FL in 1982.
Late in 2007, and on into 2008, it
became clear that people who don't have
large stages, or budgets, (it's not cheap to
transport 14 people across the country,
then provide rooms and ALL of the gear),
would like a "Buffett Show" as well, so
we formed the "Tropical Rockin' Party
Band" version of the Chillers for that specific purpose. It's still a niche' because
we can perform our sets like a concert, or
like a dance party. Clients love it, AND
we're now in the price range of a lot more
people who want a good copy of Buffett's
music for their event.
2008 has been a very good year
for the Chillers so far. We have 30 nice
events booked, and it's only the end of
April.
We're looking forward to performing for a lot of Parrotheads in 2008;
meeting up with our old "Family, Friends,
Fans and Fins", and adding new ones
along the way. Palm Harbor, Saturday
June 7th, is always one of my favorites,
with 20,000+ people in the audience, and
we're very excited about performing at
the "Sarasota Bay Parrothead Club
Birthday Bash" May 31st in Venice, FL.
I've heard that's a real Party!
Let's hope the current trend continues, and we end up doing a hundred
more big events this year, as well as being
invited back to M.O.T.M. in November.
We really are working on a CD
and have 3 or 4 pretty good originals to
top things off. It'll be a "live" performance CD, and will include a DVD of from
our shows, (just like Jimmy does), so if
you see the camera rolling at one of our
events - you may be on the DVD!
One of the best things about the
Chillers is that most of the Band members
have been around for 2 or more years,
they know the "show", and are very talented performers. The "core" of people
who make up the Band provide a solid
foundation for the rest of the members
who only get to perform with us when the
entire show is booked, so the performance is never "loose". We all do everything possible to make sure we get look
and sound like the real thing, and the
audience response says it all!
The Caribbean Chillers are:
Jason Webb - Vocals, Guitar
James Strong - Lead Guitar
Joe Rajski - Bass, Vocals
JB Heizman - Drums
Terry Baber - Pans, Trombone
Hugh Thompson - Percussion
George Beauchamp - Keyboards
Lisa Jones - Vocals
Carmen Harrell - Vocals
Dave Gibble - Trumpet
Roch Bordenave - T- Bone
Patty Accorso - Dancer/Stilts
Oscar Mosqueda - Dancer/Stilts
If you'd like to keep up with the
Chillers activities, please visit our website at www.caribbeanchillers.com, send
me an email, and I'll put you on our email
list.
Thank you to everyone who has
made this possible, and to all of the folks
who will continue to make it possible in
the future.
YOU are the reason we're here.

"SURVIVOR’s SACRIFICIAL VIRGIN”
This was my first time ever in the SURVIVOR
Games, and I hadn't a clue what to expect. Al has been
asking me to play for several years now, and so this
year, I said 'YES". I put together a team of 8 players,
thinking it was going to be OUR TEAM from the
Naples PHC. All 8 of us were "SURVIVOR VIRGINS"!! When we got to the place to be picked up by
the boats, we were taken over to "SURVIVOR
ISLAND". There were 48 of us total and we were all
escorted to our destination, to start the games….
Now I was a complete "SURVIVOR" VIRGIN, and what I
mean by that is, not only have I not played in the games before, but I've
never even seen the TV show SURVIVOR. All 48 of us
were standing around listening to the jungle music, and
the birds a cawing, and cackling, when Al let us know
that OUR TEAM from Naples WAS NOT GOING TO
BE TOGETHER!!! He had broken everyone of us 48
players up, into 6 teams of 8, and I'm really glad he
did!!! It was a blast!!!!!!!
To tell you what we did wouldn't be fair to any of
you that will join next year. All I can tell you it was without a doubt, the GREATEST FUN I HAVE EVER HAD
IN MY LIFE!! BAR NONE!! We made a lot of new
friends, had to use our minds like I've never done before,
and those with the ability to have strength, stamina, and
agility stood out. We all had great FUN and PRIDE in
what we did! It was every team for themselves, and I
believe that everyone did the best they could, and we all
had an absolute BLAST!!! I will definitely be back playing next year, and we already know, that next year will be nothing like this
year!! Guess I better pull out my Boy Scout/Girl Scout handbook,
because the younger adults that played KICKED MY BUTT!!!!!
LOL
THANK YOU Al Palumbo for all he did, and especially to
all has assistants, in setting this day up!! THANK YOU Dave and
Lori for allowing me to bring our 'Team" and have the greatest time
ever!! SARASOTA BAY PHC will always be SURVIVORS!!!

trails with hula hoops and sponge Bob, Reefball battles in the

the next time? Only time will tell!
Parrot Heads and Hockey-The tropics meet the ice
On March 29th, about 20
SBPHC members joined with
the Tampa Bay Parrot Heads
and invaded the St Pete
Time's Forum to watch the
Lightning play the Carolina
Hurricanes. The party started
at The Hut, an eating and
drinking establishment across
from the Forum. We arrived in full parrothead regalia and
the festivities were under way. As soon as I walked in, I
was grabbed by Nana Babe to join her and another parrothead in a triple tequila shot provided by the 'Cuervo girls'
who were passing around samples. What a way to starteven if I'm not a big tequila fan. Anyway, the party continued until just before game time.
50 DOWN/50 TO GO
Way to go SBPHC shoppers , we're
half way there! Yes - we have 50
Margaritaville Foods Proof of
Purchases (POP) - lets go over the top
at the next meeting. That gives us 3
weeks to get 50 more to meet our minimum to enter the monthly drawing for
the framed and matted Buffett album. We will let you
know of any specials we see.
Don't forget to bring the POP's to the meeting, the
sooner we reach 100, the sooner we have to win. Not only
do we party with a purpose, we also shop and eat with a
purpose!
~ Sherry
The 'regular' hockey crowd couldn't quite figure
out what was going on, but some joined in on the many
'team drinks.' Others wondered what it was we were doing.
There were rides on the Landshark rolling tiki bar and live
music. The band wasn't quite sure what to do with this
crowd, but we did join in when they did "Margaritaville".
After the pre-game warm-up, it was time to go in
for the game. Two Parrot Heads won a raffle and got to ride
the Zamboni between periods. This brought great cheers
from us high up in the 'cheap seats' when they passed by.
It was also 'fan appreciation' night so there were free
peanuts, which meant plenty of shells on the floor. Overall
it was a great outing and a fine way to spend a Saturday
evening. Oh yeah, the Lightning won 2-1 with the goalie
making 36 terrific saves.
~ Lisa Smith
"Let's Go Tubing"
We're trying something that is new
for the club this year. We are joining the Tampa and Tallahassee
clubs for a day or two of tubing on
the beautiful Ichetucknee Springs,
in Fort White, FL, on August 9th. We are hoping other
clubs will join us for a multi-club picnic and tubing adventure. So come and enjoy the adventure. Further information will be put out on the club's e-mail list. If you are
interested in going, please contact Al Palumbo at
[email protected].
The Great American Clean-Up
On Saturday April 12th the SBPHC participated in the Great American
Clean-Up at Bay Island Park, Edwards Island, along with Coconut Island and
Cook's Island. We had 58 members ready to clean the beaches. Commodore
Bob Smith and his faithful Parrot Head Navy Captians (A.J. Collins, Larry
Beggs, John Pollock, Jim O'Shea, and Manny Lopez) transported us back and
forth from the islands and around the islands to clean up anything that anyone
had left behind or washed up on shore. The islands were pretty clean but we
still collected 21 bags of garbage, a lawn chair, plastic table top, and a sign
holder.
While most of the members were out cleaning up some were getting the area
ready for our Survivor games. I think I saw Jeff Travis and Rich Myles out
there mowing the lawn.
After everyone came back to the beach where we had started, the music was on and the cooks had burgers and dogs
for all the helpers. It was a great day and a great turn out. After all it was the Great American Clean-Up! This type of
event as you know is part of our oath as a Parrot Head, "Promise to C-L-E-A-N the beaches and Party With A
Purpose!!!!" ~ Claudia

Join the Festivities!
SBPHC has committed to being a
sponsor of this event being held by Mote
Marine. It is going to be a great weekend at
the beach with educational exhibits, speakers and great music too.
Part of our sponsorship is the financial commitment to help with entertainment. We are bringing in John Friday &
Pan Dave as well as Joe Bennett to entertain the crowds on Saturday. We also will
need volunteers to help with some of the
set up as well as working at our club booth
all weekend. If you would like to help,

STATE OF THE PHLOCK - 2008
Welcome to 2008 and our annual "State
of the Phlock" report.
By all accounts, 2007 was
another banner year around the
“ParrotHead Nation.” We worked hard
and we played hard … We had a lot of
fun, we cavorted with old friends, we
made new friends and, sadly, we bid
farewell to far too many beloved
friends. What we most assuredly did, in
a big way, was make a difference … a
difference in our communities, a difference in our environment and a difference in the lives of our fellow man as
we continue to grow and prosper. What
began with the original Parrot Head
Club in Atlanta blossomed to a record
229 chapters at year end, an increase of
6% from 2006.
Meeting of the Minds was again
an unqualified success. From a group
of 80 attendees and 5 Clubs in
December, 1992, MOTM has grown to
200+ Clubs and over 3000 dedicated
Parrot Heads making the trek to Key
West every November for four solid
days of music and mirth, mischief and
merriment, and above all, the friendship
and camaraderie of kindred spirits from
around the world.
Attendees this year enjoyed visiting with our guest Ms. Lucy Buffett
who spent time in the mini-mart signing
copies of her long-awaited and newly
released cookbook.
Again, our raffle and the charity
auction were extremely successful, as
were the annual blood drive and Toys
For Tots campaign. Parrot Heads also
participated, en masse, in the annual
Zonta Walk and, as a team, generated a
donation of $ 10,000 for the cause.
Replacing the defunct Balcony
Decorating Contest for the first time
was the soon-to-be-infamous MOTM
Hat Contest. In the presence of a panel
of luminary judges, Parrot Heads went
way beyond the call of duty, as they’ve
been known to do on occasion. Designs
ranged from simple to intricate and
from the sublime to the deliciously
ridiculous, with every entry generating
thunderous applause from the capacity
crowd.
As always, we had a few chapters fall by the wayside, but we’ve also
added several new chapters to the PHiP
family already this year, with more on
the horizon. At this writing, our organization stands at 227 chapters in the
United States, Canada and Australia …
3 different countries, 47 states, 3
Canadian provinces and one U.S.
Territory.
Our total membership
remains steady with more than 25,000
dedicated, fun-loving Parrot Heads
amongst the ranks. Again, it's apparent
that the "ParrotHead Nation" is not only
alive and well, but thriving.
Now, for the big news ... In
2007, Parrot Head Clubs collectively
raised for and/or donated to charitable
organizations approximately $ 2.9 million. Perhaps more importantly, Parrot
Heads carried on the tradition of volunteerism as 2007 saw chapters worldwide donate more than 181,000 manhours to philanthropic and environmental activities. In this day & time, it’s
easy to write a check for charity …
People have more money than time.
This past year, however, Parrot Heads
collectively spent the equivalent of
7500+ 24 hour days on charitable,
social and environmental activities …
and they had a BLAST while doing it !!
PHiP has attained National
Status with both the American Cancer
Society’s Relay For Life program and
the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory
Walk program. In an effort to make a
dent in world hunger, our Feeding
Frenzy Project has gained strength and
support, culminating with World Food
Day in October. Additionally, 2007 saw
PHiP cement an agreement with
Margaritaville Foods that should generate additional funds for charity at the
local Club level.
And, there's more to the story!
These numbers, while spectacular, do
not include those efforts which are not
measured by dollars or man-hours:
* The tons of canned goods collected
and donated to local food banks across
the country
* The hundreds of thousands of poptops
collected for and turned into money by
Ronald McDonald Houses throughout
the land
* The thousands of new toys collected
and donated to Toys For Tots to provide
Christmas for underprivileged children
who otherwise would have nothing
* The thousands of critical items donated to local animal shelters ... everything
from food & blankets to old newspapers
& leashes
* The hundreds of gallons of blood and
plasma donated to save countless lives
across this great nation
* The hundreds & hundreds of “care
packages” sent to our soldiers in Iraq
I could go on and on, but the
picture is clear ... the good deeds that
Parrot Heads perform for the benefit of
the community, the environment and
our fellow man often cannot be measured in quantitative terms, yet are so
vital to the recipients and should be a
constant source of satisfaction to each
of us.
So, to each and every one of
you, a heartfelt THANK YOU for a job
well done! You truly are "Angels In
Tropical Shirts" and you should be very
proud of yourselves and your accomplishments.
Spring is here, summer is nigh
and the concert season is upon us ...
Time to do what we do best: Have fun
and "Party With A Purpose!"
Till next time, may all your dreams be
tropical!

Greiner Rick
and Sandy have
been
SPBHC
members since
2003 and during that time have enjoyed
attending MOTM, Survivor Games and
Buffett concerts besides the variety of
other events shared by fellow Parrotheads.
Rick is originally from Bremerton,
Washington and ended up in Florida by
way of Seattle, Yakama, a stint in the
Merchant Marines, San Francisco, Los
Angeles, Anaheim, Lake Tahoe and Reno.
Wanting to move his young daughter away
from the fast paced life of Reno, Nevada
he traveled to Ft. Myers in the early 80’s
and eventually made his way into
Bradenton.Rick spent years working in the
restaurant business and is most remembered from his years of owning the Pub in
the Village of Longboat Key and for
designing and opening the Bridge Tender
Inn in Bradenton Beach.
Sandy permanently moved to
Bradenton in 1988 from Zanesville, Ohio
and is a graduate of Ohio University. After
a career in retail management with companies like Sears, Lazarus and MaasBrothers/Jordan Marsh, and owning her
own custom bridal gown business, Sandy
obtained her Real Estate license before
leaving Ohio and her career path took a
different turn.
Moving to Florida she obtained
her Broker’s license in 1994 and is actively working as a Broker/Associate with
Wagner Realty. Sandy specializes in sales,
property management and rentals while
acting as office manager for the Greiner
Group sales team.
Even though Rick and Sandy have
given up their restaurant trays they still are
never far from the hospitality industry.
They purchased a Cortez Road motel in
2004 and turned it into The Parrot Inn. You
guessed it, individually themed rooms like
“Coastal Confessions” and “One
Particular Harbor” respectfully honor the
hard work and dedication of Parrotheads
everywhere.
Now Rick and Sandy would like to serve
on the next “Not Bored” of directors, and
they ask for your vote!

Greetings
Parrot
Heads: KatieGirl here.
Most of you know me
already for I have been
active with this great
club since 1999. I
held a board position for 2 years, I have
volunteered on the numerous committees
over the years, my favorites are ReefBall
projects, MOTM, Birthday planning &
after this past weekend Survivor.
Over the years I have seen the
club grow but always going in a positive
direction with the rewards going to our
community and charities. I am so proud
to be a part of it all and want to continue
to assist the club in keeping up with the
image of "Partying with a purpose and
having fun while doing it." I love meeting
new people & I have made lifelong
friends being a Parrot Head and have had
best of times with them. Jello shots were
involved....I'll admit
I have been a certified caregiver
in the community for 11 years. I love my
job & the people that I have had the pleasure of knowing and caring for. Kevin & I
got married in March. We love being back
in Sarasota again.
I would be honored to serve on
the Board & contribute to the continued
growth & success of our great club.
John Pollock &
Tami Mannel
Tami and I have
been members of
the SBPHC for
over two years.
Over these two
years we have become more and more
involved with the club. We attend every
Thirtsday meeting and Beach Clean Up
without fail. We have enjoyed countless
other events and seem to make new and
better friends each time. We now feel it is
time that we get even more involved and
start to give something back to the club.
Having been in the club for several years
now we have experienced some great
events. That is where we would like to
offer our help. We feel that we could
offer some fresh insight and ideas to several tried and true events as well as maybe
even help create some new ones. With
Tami's legal background and my marketing experience we feel that we would
bring a very practical and enthusiastic
energy to the board. Thank you for your
consideration.
David & Sherry

We have been
SBPHC members
since 2004, but
Parrot Heads all
of our adult lives. We joined the club
hoping to find fun people to party with,
we found those people, and now call them
friends. We have learned to "party with a
purpose" and are proud to be members of
a club that is so much fun, but still gives
so much back to the community. We
would like to be on the Board for another
year, as the song goes, "I don't feel that
my work down here is done."
Phil & Claudia
Benz
Phil and I have
been in the club
for 4 years now
and it has been a great adventure getting
to know some of the best people in the
world. We have been on the "Not Bored"
of Directors for 2 years and hope we have
made a difference in helping the club with
their projects and events. We have helped
with raffles, I am sure you know me as
the one that comes around and begs for
money all the time but it is for a great
cause. We also are part of "Al's People"
in which we get the clean-ups and cook
outs organized. We would love to have
your vote as we feel we can contribute
much to the club's success.
Al Palumbo
I have
enjoyed serving on the
Board
in
the
Environmental position. I have tried to
make our projects more
fun then work, and
judging from the turnout at cleanups and
the laughter I hear, and the fun being had
by our members, I have had some success. We look forward to having more
members join us this coming year. I
would like to keep my present position
and endeavor to bring new projects to the
club to enable us to protect our environment and continue making our Reef Ball
project grow and prosper. So vote for me
if you want me to continue to be one of
your Board Members. I have been a
member of the club since 1999, a Jimmy
Buffett fan since the mid 70’s. My
favorite song lyrics; “There’s good days
and bad days, and going half mad days”.
Beth Palumbo
It has
been an exciting two
years on Not Bored of
Directors. I am running
again for the position of
Secretary, I feel that I
have been a great asset in this position, I
am qualified and I feel I would continue
to do an exceptional job. There usually
nothing that I cannot figure or willing to
learn. I am very excited to stay on the
Bored of Directors and continue to help
the club be a more positive and fun club.
We have so many great members and we
would like to get everyone involved in
club activities. I have been a member of
the club since 1999 and things have gotten better and better each year. I have
been a Jimmy Buffett fan since 1982. My
favorite song lyrics: "She's changing
channels, stayin' on her toes. She's just
changin' channels, as she goes".
Wayne & Sharen

We moved here from
Ohio 7 years ago and
have been Parrot
Heads for 6+ years.
We both do remodeling and carpentry. Our off time is spent
with family and the Parrot Heads.
Working with the Parrot Heads for our
community is very rewarding. We have
been helping with our community
involvement projects such as SPARCC
(Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center.) Also
working on the monthly and birthday raffles. We would love stay on as board
members and continue to give input and
help in any way we can. Hope you'll
count us in with your vote!“
Tailgate Tom Yorke
I joined SBPHC in March
’05 to meet some people
and party with Parrot
Heads. SBPHC has truly
exceeded my expectations! As a “NotBored” member, it is a
privilege to work with
terrific people: our officers and fellow “not-bored” members who
plan and execute the good times we all
share; “the Navy & Dive Team” that support our Raft-up parties, Island Cleanups,
Survivor Games and Reef Ball work; and
the “Tailgate Team”. I am running for reelection to the not-bored and ask you for
your support.

When asked to do an interview for the newsletter,
Laura and Dick Dobkins reply was, "O.K., but don't expect
anything intelligent!" I reminded them this was an interview for
the SBPHC newsletter - we didn't expect intelligence, with us it's
all about fun…
This couple is
definitely fun, and
come to find out,
pretty intelligent to
boot. Laura is an
ICU/ER nurse, Dick
is retired, he jokes
that he is Laura's
Manager. Dick has
worn many hats,
from the banking business to the petroleum business, and after
talking to him, there was probably some monkey business
thrown in there just for fun. His favorite motto is "I've been
doing so much for so long with so little, I'm now uniquely qualified to do anything with nothing".
Laura and Dick have been married for 34 years, raising their
2 children in small town America. They moved to Sarasota in
November of 2006 from Cissna Park, Illinois, yes, Cissna Park.
Dick says it's not the end of the world, but you can definitely see
the end of the world from there. When offered a Condo to stay
in, they decided to change there latitude and attitude. They
promptly sold their house, put all of their worldly goods in their
RV, and headed for Sarasota. Within 6 months they were on the
road again visiting family and friends from Illinois to California
and back to Sarasota, They put 13,000 miles on their RV on a trip
that lasted from May to October.
This summer they are planning another road trip, calling this
"tour" the boat buying mission. They will go to Illinois, than
head down the east coast searching for "THE" boat. They will
be moving to South Gulf Cove, a community in the Port
Charlotte area, to house sit at Laura's brothers' new retirement
home for the next 5 years. As they laughingly say, it's a tough
job, but someone has to do it. It just happens to be on a canal
with deep water access to Charlotte Harbor and points beyond.
Oh, by the way, there is a boat slip in the back yard, i.e., the "boat
buying mission".
Laura and Dick have had so much fun and made so many new
friends that they plan to remain SBPHC members, even after
they move. If you want to see more of this fun couples adventures, they invite you to go to their blog @: www.dickandlaura.blogspot.com. Check it out, and the next time you see them,
stop and have a chat with them, but don't expect anything intelligent……

SBPHC WINS AGAIN!
Congratulations go out to the "Great Eight" Tailgating Team of Bill
& Peggy Wiley, Bonnie Kegan & Jeff Travis, Charles & Chris
Sutterfield and Tom and Lacey Zinser for winning the Grand Prize for
best tailgating decorations at the Triple Crown of Polo on March 30th.
The theme was "Party till the Cows Come Home", the twist was that
they didn't know about the decorating competition when they set up.
Their goal was to tailgate in Parrot head style, complete with two tents,
pink flamingos, plenty of parrots, Trop Rock music, banners, a portable
bar including Tom & Lacey's award winning boat drinks, a rib cook off,
cold beer, plenty of appetizers, well I think you get the picture….
It is rumored that a bit of bribery could have happened when
the judges were spied driving away from the Great Eight tents
with Margaritas, boat drinks and Rum Jumbies in hand.
In true Parrot head style, a jar was set up for donations for the
Alzheimer's walk, at which $135.00 was collected and donated.
The grand prize was basket with a $200.00 Gift certificate to the
Polo Grill. It has been donated to the silent auction for the SBPHC
birthday party. Thank you to the Great Eight tailgaters for once
again proving that we do party with a purpose.
