The diamond experience in Amsterdam
The diamond experience in Amsterdam Gassan Dam Square Gassan Diamonds Gassan Plaza Choices by DL DIAMONDS The name diamond comes from the Greek word ”Adamas”, which means ”the invincible”. It is a mineral composed of pure carbon, transformed into diamond over a long period of time with the help of enormous heat and pressure. It is the hardest substance known to man. Diamonds were first found in India, some 2.500 years ago. Among the diamonds found there were the world famous KOH-I-NOOR and the blue HOPE diamond. Today the primary sources of diamonds are Africa, Australia, South America and Russia. The majority of the diamond mining is controlled by the Beers, which is based in South Africa. The rough diamond is distributed by the Diamond Trading Company in London. Of all diamonds found, roughly 80% is suitable for industrial purposes and only the remaining 20% for jewellery. The diamonds in the mines are normally found in a blue rock, called kimberlite. Pieces of this rock are taken from the mines, passed through a crushing plant and led over rotating grease tables where the rock is separated from the diamonds. Since diamonds have an affinity for grease, they will stick to the tables while the rock is washed away. There are three stages in transforming these rough diamonds into the brilliant, glittering gems that are used for jewellery: sawing, shaping and polishing. The most popular cut of diamond is the brilliant cut, the round shape which has fifty-seven facets. Gassan 121 For several generations the diamond polishers at Gassan Diamonds have perfected the art of creating optimal life to the brilliant cut diamond. The polishers work on the symmetry of the diamonds and the immaculate finish of each of the fifty seven facets with only one goal in mind: perfect beauty. Therefore Gassan proudly presents the next step in perfection; the Gassan 121, worldwide patented by Gassan Diamonds. This brand new cut has one hundred and twenty one facets, sixteen additional facets on the top and forty eight extra on the bottom in comparison to the traditional round brilliant cut. The placement of the additional facets gives optimal light reflection and is a true must see during your trip to Amsterdam, City of Diamonds for over more than 400 years. ...And remember: ”A diamond is forever”. Through a simple system one can change the color of gold and the color of semi- precious stones. Every piece of jewelry consists of three separate and interchangeable parts: the base, which is made out of 18kt. gold; the bezel, which is also made out of 18kt. gold and is included in the set in three different colors of gold, namely white, yellow, and rose; and six different colored natural gemstones that complete the Choices by DL sets. It is very practical that by mixing and matching these components you can coordinate your jewelry to go with all your outfits.
