UTAH
Utah is easily one of the world’s best ski destinations.
Of course we would say that, but there are many photos,
videos, and ski tales to back our bias.
So just what does it take to earn the title of ‘The Greatest
Snow On Earth’? Think variety, accessibility and quality.
Unquestionably, Utah has it all.
Each of the state’s 14 ski resorts are impressive in their own
right; what’s consistent across the board is legendary snowfall. Team this with varied terrain, easy commuting between
resorts - ten are located less than an hour from Salt Lake City
airport - and ski runs offering up everything from soft, light
powder to pristine, groomed corduroy, it’s plain to see why
Utah’s the perfect pick for every level of skier and age group,
whatever your preferred skiing style.
The
UTAH
FACTOR
wow
From the moment you disembark at
Salt Lake City International Airport,
Utah’s many ski charms will be
apparent. Flanked by awe-inspiring
mountain ranges, it’s little wonder
the Utah capital is home to worldclass skiers and snowboarders.
In addition to consistent snowfall,
superior snow quality and variety
of resorts, there are off-slope
adventures to be had in Utah. When
you’re not busy pushing yourself
to the limit on the mountain,
take in the luxury spas, ski-in
distilleries, microbreweries, topquality restaurants, family dining,
sleigh rides, ice skating rinks, factory
outlets, boutique galleries and more.
The Utah ski industry continues to
build upon its first-rate products
and services; it’s never been easier
to create your dream winter holiday.
Are you in search of a powder
Mecca, magnificent mountains,
and a ski experience everyone can
enjoy? Then it’s time to ski Utah.

LIGHT
Utah’s ‘Greatest Snow On
Earth’® is characterised by
light, dry powder. A mustski destination for any selfrespecting powderhound, at
least four of Utah’s 14 ski resorts
are known for their whopping
annual snowfall – an average
of 12.7 metres (500 inches)
throughout the season,
to be exact.
Utah’s skiing profile has
continued to grow since the
2002 Olympic Winter Games
in Salt Lake City. While still
lesser known than neighbouring
Colorado, many of Utah’s resorts
are consistently voted amongst
the top ski destinations in both
North America and the world. In
fact, committed powderhounds
would argue that the state’s
relatively low-profile is one of
the things that makes skiing
Utah so awesome – all the more
fresh powder for them.

LOCATIONS
If only the resorts where the snow dumps it
down will do, head on over to the Cottonwood
Canyons. Little Cottonwood Canyon is home to
skiers-only Alta Resort and the interconnected
Snowbird Resort, which features some of the
most challenging terrain in all of Utah.
To the north of Little Cottonwood Canyon you’ll
find Big Cottonwood Canyon, with Solitude
Ski Resort and Brighton Ski Resort. Solitude
comfortably caters to all level of skiers, while
Brighton is a firm family favourite.
In Utah’s Ogden Valley are ski resorts Powder
Mountain and Snowbasin, while the Provo area
features the serene Sundance Resort, founded
by famed actor Robert Redford.
In the north of Utah is Beaver Mountain Resort,
and finally to the south is Brian Head, just 2.5
hours from Las Vegas.

WORLD CLASS
CONVENIENT
AFFORDABLE
When you ski Utah, you’re less likely to have the lengthy transfer
times that are unavoidable with other destinations. Many Utah
ski resorts are a short journey from Salt Lake City International
Airport - you’ll be on the slopes so fast you may as well wear
your skis off the plane.
A number of Utah’s resorts are also an easy commute from each
other, like Park City Resort and Deer Valley. There’s no hassle
sampling a variety of ski areas during your stay; what’s more,
the popular Park City area provides a free shuttle service to each
resort and to historic Main Street.
Each Utah resort is unique, so it pays to do your
research before finalising the details of your ski
holiday. Thanks to their more established profiles,
Snowbird and the Park City resorts tend to draw
the most visitors. Elsewhere, at Powder Mountain
and the appropriately-titled Solitude Resort, you’ll
find fewer folk to share the slopes with.
If you live for skiing or snowboarding across
untracked powder, Utah’s the destination for
you. Alternatively, if you’re all about off-piste
terrain, steeps, family activities, budget-friendly
skiing, or lively nightlife, Utah’s got all those
things covered too.

RESORTS
FROM DOWNTOWN SALT LAKE CITY,
SOAK UP THE VIEWS OF BIG AND LITTLE
COTTONWOOD CANYONS’ PEAKS.
THERE YOU’LL FIND FOUR WORLDCLASS RESORTS: BRIGHTON, SOLITUDE,
ALTA AND SNOWBIRD.
Conveniently located within 40 minutes of Salt Lake
City International Airport and within 50 minutes
of bustling Park City, each of the ski resorts boast
unforgettable terrain, stunning scenery, and intimate
ski villages.
Both the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons have
the Park City region licked when it comes to average
annual snowfall. If very challenging terrain’s your
reason for living, make your way to Little Cottonwood; the interconnected Alta (snowboard free) and
Snowbird are rugged and intense.
To the north of Little Cottonwood, in the southeast
pocket of Salt Lake Valley, Big Cottonwood has Solitude and Brighton ski resorts. Both are low key and
favoured by locals.
ALTA RESORT
WHERE IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SKIING.
Powderhounds come over all starry eyed when talking about Alta’s ‘deep and steep’.
But while the skiers-only resort – one of the oldest in the United States - is home to
loads of snow, challenging off-piste terrain, and more breathtaking views than you
can poke a stick at, it also offers great runs for beginners and intermediates.
The Alta ski area features 2200 acres of terrain and solid lift infrastructure.
The resort’s world-famous powder is equalled only by Japan’s Niseko, however, when
it comes to terrain Alta makes Niseko’s slopes look like bunny runs. And no offence to
snowboarders, but Alta’s skiers-only rule arguably means the abundance of awesome
powder is preserved longer.
If you’re all about the après, keep on moving. But if you prefer your ski resorts mostly
polished, with a bit rough around the edges, Alta’s guaranteed to take your fancy.
WHY SKI ALTA?
There’s a sense of romance and history
when you ski Alta. Teamed with top
terrain and powder, plus runs to suit all
skill levels, we challenge you to find a
better straight-up ski resort in North
America.
Unless you’re after lively nightlife, that is…
But for diehard powderhounds it’s
Utah’s Alta all the way.
Pros: Skiers only, snowfall,
diverse terrain, no lift lines,
easy to navigate, scenic.
Best for: Intermediate-expert skiers,
couples, families, individuals.
Similar to: Hokkaido for snow, Aspen &
upper Blackcomb for steeps.

SNOWBIRD RESORT
A UNIQUE, PICTURESQUE RESORT
WITH LOTS AND LOTS OF SNOW.
SOLITUDE RESORT
NO LIFT LINES = NO WAIT. FIND
YOUR SOLITUDE IN DEEP POWDER.
Snowbird offers skiers and snowboarders intense intermediate and expert terrain that
will work you over and still leave you wanting more. If you’re a powderhound looking
for your very own Warren Miller moment, Snowbird Resort has your name all over it.
Solitude Resort features diverse terrain, loads of deep powder, a fun park, games
room, and charming European-style village. If you’re heading to Utah with family in
tow, this relatively low-profile resort offers fun for all ages as well as awesome skiing.
Snowbird Resort’s light, dry Wasatch powder is world renowned – we’re talking an
average annual snowfall of 12.7 metres, or 500 inches.
Largely the dominion of locals, Solitude’s ski culture is super laid back. Whether your
idea of ‘solitude’ is a quiet ski vacation with the family, or finding fresh tracks before
your fellow powderhounds, Solitude Resort can deliver on both fronts.
Fancy yourself an expert skier or snowboarder? Then Snowbird may be just the
place to test your mettle. The skills of many locals and regulars have to be seen to
be believed.
Powder days are par for the course at Snowbird, but be aware you’ll have to share
them with the Salt Lake City hordes.
WHY SKI OR SNOWBOARD
SNOWBIRD?
Snowbird Resort has more powder days
than you’ll know what to do with. Plus,
let’s not forget the legendary steeps and
off-piste adventures. Ski or snowboard
Snowbird and you’ll be left in no doubt
that Utah truly is home to the “Greatest
Snow On Earth”. ®
Pros: Snowfall, steep terrain, scenic,
accessibility.
Cons: Limited groomed, limited nightlife,
can get busy.
Vibe: Hard core, big mountain skiers and
riders.
Best for: Mid-intermediate-expert skiers
and riders, friends, couples, families,
individuals.
SEASON:
MID-NOVEMBER TO MID-MAY.
Lodging: 3-4 star lodges and hotels. The
Cliff Lodge, The Lodge at Snowbird, The
Inn and The Iron Blosam.
Après Ski: Head to The Tram Club
where you can enjoy beer and a shot for
just $5. The Aerie has excellent cheese
fondue, while El Chanate Cantina is all
about margaritas and live music. Treat
your belly to famed après ski wings at
Wildflower Lounge.
By Utah standards Solitude Resort is small, covering only 1,200 acres of skiing terrain.
Still, that’s plenty to meet the needs of skiers and snowboarders of all levels without
feeling like you’re competing for space.

BRIGHTON RESORT
A LOW-KEY RESORT BIG ON PERSONALITY.
There’s next to nothing Brighton Resort doesn’t offer in the way of skiing and
snowboarding. Perfect for groups of friends and families, you’ll find everything
from beginner to expert runs.
Utah’s first ski resort, and one of the oldest in America, Brighton has a strong
standing within the snowboarding community who can’t get enough of the
terrain parks, natural freestyle hits, and plentiful powder. If you’re after a five-star
ski resort, Brighton may not be your cup of tea, but if you seek a family-friendly
atmosphere teamed with excellent value skiing and boarding, step right this way.
Brighton consists of the Majestic side, with its forested areas and ample
opportunity for tree skiing, and the Millicent side, which is more open with bowls
and drop offs. Feeling fancy? Tackle the cliffs, trees, terrain parks, and awesome
open-boundary back country. Plus, if you love a spot of night skiing, Brighton’s
runs, pipe and park are all illuminated.
WHY SKI OR SNOWBOARD
BRIGHTON?
Compared to high-profile neighbouring
resorts Snowbird and Park City, Brighton
and nearby Solitude are favoured by
locals rather than out of towners. Utah
residents are more than happy with the
status quo; who wouldn’t want to keep
the average 500 inches of snowfall to
themselves? Particularly when it’s the dry
powder that the state’s renowned for.
Pros: Snowfall, no lift lines, terrain, cost
Cons: Limited facilities, limited lodging,
limited nightlife.

PARK CITY RESORT:
THE UNITED STATES’ LARGEST SKI RESORT
Park City Resort (the merging of Park City Mountain and Canyons Resort) is set
to become the largest ski and snowboard resort in the United States, featuring over
7,300 acres of skiable terrain, 17 peaks, 300 trails and 38 chair lifts.
Accessible via both Park City and Canyons Village base areas, as well as the Town
Lift on bustling Main Street, the newly-formed mega-resort will be interconnected
by an eight-passenger gondola - just one element of new owner Vail Resorts’ $50
million investment. Park City Resort will also feature a variety of trails, a range of
children’s programmes, adaptive lessons, and challenging terrain parks, making it
equally engaging for thrill-seekers and families.
On the Park City Mountain side of Park City Resort, intermediate skiers eager to
stretch themselves will find generous amounts of groomed runs varying in pitch.
Beginner skiers and boarders are well catered to, with wide, diverse mountain zones
on offer. Advanced folk can adventure off-piste amongst the trees and in the open
bowls. Meanwhile, freestylers can fine tune their skills and pick up tips from the pros
at the superpipe or any of the four terrain parks.
Pros: Diverse terrain, steep trails ,
signature runs, high speed lifts, night
skiing, terrain parks, large resort,
Epic Pass.
Cons: Can get busy on weekends and
holiday periods.
Vibe: First-class resort with a downto-earth, mountain casual attitude.
Best for: Beginner-expert skiers and
riders, terrain park lovers, families,
friends, couples and singles.
Similar to: Smaller, upscale version of
Whistler, similarities to Vail/ Breckenridge
(Park City) and Big White/ Blackcomb
(Canyons)
Over in Canyons territory there’s terrain that caters to all abilities, plus even more
perfectly groomed runs, awesome tree skiing and pristine bowls. Here skiers
and boarders experience some of the most diverse ski terrain in the Northern
Hemisphere, which is why the region’s widely considered a ski Mecca for advanced
and expert riders. Be sure to sample the fall-line cruisers and tree skiing in the wellgladed spots. For snowboarders, you’ll be spoiled for choice thanks to natural half
pipes and an additional two terrain parks.
Park and Pipe: Yes
Across Park City Resort there’s also plenty of fun to be had when the lifts
stop turning. Tackle the alpine coaster, hurtle along the zip line, or relax in an
old-fashioned horse-drawn sleigh.
Canyons Village Lodging: 4-5 star
condominiums and hotels. Grand Summit
Hotel, Sundial Lodge, Hyatt Escala,
Waldorf Astoria, Silverado Lodge.
WHY SKI OR SNOWBOARD PARK CITY RESORT?
Once Vail Resorts completes its $50 million investment, Park City Resort will be the
United States’ largest ski and snowboard resort, with over 7,300 acres of skiable
terrain, 17 peaks, 300+ trails, 38 chair lifts, seven terrain parks and six natural half pipes.
The former Canyons and Park City Mountain resorts will be interlinked by an eightpassenger Gondola.
The Park City Mountain area of the new mega-resort offers great-quality snow and an
excellent mix of terrain. While best known as a top ski spot for families, other groups
and solo travellers will find it equally engaging. Love a lively après ski scene?
Main Street features arguably Utah’s best shopping, restaurants, and bars.
Over on Canyons’ side you’ll find an eclectic crowd - people watching is a sport
all of its own around these parts. All levels of skiers and boarders, from families to
powderhounds and newbies, find something to love. The vast terrain is supported by
excellent lift infrastructure.
SEASON:
LATE NOVEMBER TO MID-APRIL.
Park City Village Lodging: 3-4 star
condominiums and hotels. The Lodge

Condominiums. Off mountain: Park City
Peaks Hotel, The Yarrow and Lift Lodge
on Main Street.
Park City Village Après Ski: After a
hard day on the slopes, take a load off
at Legends Bar & Grill, The Corner Store
Pub and Grill, or the enticingly named Pig
Pen Saloon. Alternatively, head towards
Main Street where you’ll find plenty of fun
bars to choose from.
Canyons Village Après Ski: A ski holiday
at Canyons isn’t complete without
partaking in a Coronarita at the Red Tail

THE CHARMING TOWN OF OGDEN SITS

Known for its quirky appeal and spectacular Wasatch

to Utah ski resorts Snowbasin, Powder Mountain and
Nordic Valley, each within a 20-minute drive from
town. Once there you’ll enjoy uncluttered slopes and
diverse terrain.
For entertainment off the slopes, head to Ogden’s
historic 25th Street where you can get your fill of
shopping, dining and live music.
As one of the oldest ski resorts in the United States, Snowbasin really shows the
whippersnappers how it ought to be done. On a busy day the resort welcomes a
mere 4,000 skiers and thanks to investment in lift infrastructure you’ll seldom find
yourself waiting in queues.
Snowbasin favours expert and advanced skiers, with an allocation of 30% and 50%
of the terrain respectively. Rest assured novice skiers aren’t ignored, nor are diehard
tricksters thanks to Snowbasin’s terrain parks and half pipe.
While Snowbasin doesn’t offer on-mountain accommodation, skiers can make the
most of opulent day lodges featuring chandeliers, sun decks, OTT fireplaces, and
fancy-schmancy dining chairs.
WHY SKI OR SNOWBOARD
SNOWBASIN?
Snowbasin is a large resort with excellent
facilities and loads of stellar snow.
Despite this, it doesn’t see the same

POWDER MOUNTAIN
7,000+ ACRES OF SKIABLE TERRAIN.
Powder Mountain offers skiers zero crowds, seemingly endless
powder, virgin corduroy, backcountry adventures, and even costeffective cat skiing.
Minus the frills and luxuries you might find at other Utah ski resorts,
Powder Mountain is still very much a pristine winter wonderland
that must be seen to be believed.
WHY SKI OR SNOWBOARD
POWDER MOUNTAIN?
In addition to Powder Mountain’s
abundant snow, skiing and
snowboarding here is a relaxed affair.
A local’s favourite, if you’re a lover of
powder skiing, put Pow Mow at the top
of your bucket list.
Pros: Vast terrain, no lift lines, no
crowds, snowfall, value for money.

Après Ski: Do après ski a little
differently with the Snowcat Sunset
Safari. The non-skiing guided tour
takes in awe-inspiring views from
the top of the mountain as the sun
sets. Hungry? Not to worry; the tour
includes alfresco dining.
