As every visitor will see, Mons is a delightful arts city with
a remarkable heritage that has been recognised by UNESCO
on an international level.
But above and beyond its heritage and architecture, the City of the
Doudou is also incredibly proud of the atmosphere and creativity
generated by all of its tourists, students and members of SHAPE
(NATO headquarters).
Mons has always stood out thanks to its commitment to hotels
and shopping. The original gift route introduces you to the unique
charm of the little shops that line the streets of the old town,
offering so much more than what you might see in the usual
international high street stores.
This initiative was launched in 2007 and has enjoyed great success
given the many retailers that have benefited from it and the website
dedicated to the initiative, which has attracted such a large number
of visitors every day.
This is why so many shops wanted to take part this year.
Fifty of them have passed the different tests assessing their
originality to be selected.
The 51 shops chosen boast a range of unusual gifts and items that
your loved ones will be thrilled to receive. You can recognise them
from the “Mons, Ville du Cadeau Original” label that will appear on
their windows.
We hope that this selection of original products will encourage you
to make some daring purchases!

to delight your loved ones.
For parties, birthdays or just the pleasure of treating someone else
or yourself, the City of the Doudou is becoming the City of original
gifts throughout the year.
Selected according to a number of originality tests, the 51 shops
in Mons each offer at least 3 original gift ideas. In all, there are
more than 250 original gifts waiting to be discovered! Whether
you’re looking for decorative items, textiles, jewellery, floral
arrangements, crafts, presents for children or works of art, you’re
bound to find something to suit your tastes and your budget.
New: shopping routes have been put together that will not only
give you the chance to snap up some original gifts, but also to
discover or rediscover the heritage of the historic centre of Mons.
The themed routes are available on the visitmons.be app. As well
as this, bargain gifts costing less than 10 Euros, (“bonnes affaires”),
as well as products bearing the “Mons 2015” label are available
from some shops in the scheme.
