Courses:
Students must be enrolled for the equivalent of at least
12 A&M hours each semester. Reciprocal Exchange
Students can enroll in any courses offered by ESEN.
ESEN offers the option of taking 1) Advanced Spanish
language and culture classes, 2) subject classes taught
in Spanish, and 3) a limited number of subject classes
offered in English. Students with advanced written and
oral Spanish language proficiency may take any ESEN
course for which they meet the prerequisites.

Description:
A reciprocal exchange allows Texas A&M students to
study at an overseas partner university for a semester,
academic year, or, in some cases, for a summer term.
Students pay A&M tuition and fees and receive A&M
credit just as if they were studying in College Station.
This particular program has a language requirement;
however, there are several other programs that offer
courses taught in English. At ESEN, students stay primarily in pre-approved dormitories or houses, but there
are limited number of homestays available.
Eligibility:
Open to ALL Majors with a minimum 3.0 GPA
Have completed a minimum of 4 semesters of Spanish
with a grade of ‘B’ or better
Have attended TAMU for at least one semester prior to
departure
Will attend TAMU for at least one full semester after
the exchange
Have a minimum Junior Classification (60+ hours) by
the beginning of the exchange
Must attend all pre-departure orientations
Application Deadlines:
In addition to completing the online application, students
will need to provide two Texas A&M faculty references
and official transcripts by the application deadline.
March 1 deadline for fall semester or academic year
exchanges.
September 15 deadline for spring semester exchanges.
February 1 deadline for summer term exchanges.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Location:
One of the premier
private educational
institutions, ESEN
is a unique campus
designed by the
Mexican arquitect
Ricardo Legorreta
(who also designed
the TAMU Qatar
campus). It is located in La Libertad close to San
Salvador.
ESEN was founded 17 years ago by prominent businessmen and has the mission to build future leaders of
El Salvador and Central America. ESEN offers three
undergraduate programs: Business and Economics,
Industrial Engineering and Law.
Cost:
The following chart estimates the total out-of-pocket expenses a student may have in participating in this program for
a semester. Please refer to the notes below the chart for a
description of each item. These figures are only estimates
and are subject to change.

Activities:
Students have the opportunity to take part in student
organizations, intramurals, and the numerous cultural
activities that are continually offered. Student organizations such as HOPE, Pasitos ESEN or Un Techo para
Mi Pais are organizations that help children and poor
families across the country. SAE and ESEN Arte are
organizations to complement academic activities with
art and entrepreneurship. Among the most common
sporting activities are men’s and women’s soccer.
El Salvador has many sights to see quite close
to the university. Students can discover the beaches
and volcanoes in less than an hour from ESEN
and can zipline through the coffee fincas in Ataco.

1. Tuition and Fees based on Undergraduate Texas state
resident rates for a semester during the 2010-2011 academic year plus a $510 REEP administrative fee. Please
consult Student Business Services for up to date information.
2. The cost of housing is $250 per month including breakfast.
The estimate above is for 4 months.
3. Estimated $10USD per day for other meals.
4. Miscellaneous expenses include book and supplies,
student visa, passport, and international medical insurance.
5. Personal spending covers expenses such as personal
travel, souvenirs, mail, laundry (if not included in program
fee) and will vary depending on personal spending habits.
The above personal spending cost was calculated at an
average of $50/week.

Scholarships
The Scholarships and Financial Aid Office offers two
scholarship programs: the International Education Fee
Scholarship and the Study Abroad Fellowship. These
awards are based on merit or financial need. Application deadlines are listed on the website. Applications will
be available through Scholarships and Financial Aid at

Financial Aid
Federal and state financial aid and some scholarships
may often be used toward the cost of TAMU study
abroad programs. Students can contact their program’s
Study Abroad Advisor to obtain a copy of the Financial
Aid Request Form. Students can and should talk with a
Financial Aid Counselor at 845-3236 for more information.
Sponsorships:
Many students studying abroad raise money through
their own personal connections and networking. The
Study Abroad Programs Office has made arrangements
with the Scholarships & Financial Aid Office to have
such donations sent directly to Texas A&M in the student’s name to be applied directly to tuition and fees.
