Member of the Month
The Berne Chamber of Commerce is delighted
to award Golf Club of the Limberlost with our
Member of the Month honor for September.
The golf course has undergone some changes
over the past several years under direction of
Director of Golf Operations (The “DOG”) Rod
Ashman. The Chamber is pleased to highlight
the GCL’s (Golf Club of the Limberlost) accomplishments and contributions to our community.
Bent grass fairways, white sand bunkers, smooth fast greens and a 14 acre
practice facility, the Golf Club of the Limberlost offers the best golf experience in the area. GCL has been identified as "Best kept secret in Northern
Indiana" by Golf Digest.
Director of Golf Operations, Rod Ashman, takes great pride in the accomplishments and recognition GCL has received in the past several years.
Several years ago Rod took a big chance and changed the fairways to Bent
grass much like expensive country clubs and private clubs use. The improvements to the fairways along with the addition of Membership options
for individuals and corporations have given GLC a reputation for a great
round of golf. The course can also be used for outings with event options to
suit any needs. The Chamber outing has been held there for many years
and everyone has a wonderful time!
Rod also encourages you to enjoy their
brand new, 14 acre, driving range and
practice facility! Hit balls off of the newly
seeded bent grass hitting surface. They
also have a putting green, and bent grass
chipping surface to perfect your short
game.
Rod Ashman, Director of Golf Operations,
along with Mike Wynn full time staff and
12 part time employees work tirelessly all
season long to ensure the course is ready
for play. Their season does not have a set
open and closed time, the weather plays a
vital role in how long a season will be.

Did You Know?
Indiana’s Smoking Ban Law
1.
2.
3.
4.
As of July 1, 2012, the majority of Indiana businesses will be required to be
smoke-free. Smoking will not be allowed in a place of employment, public places,
state-owned vehicles and school buses. Local communities or counties may have
stronger laws that include bars, tobacco retail stores, private/fraternal clubs or
other locations.
As businesses owners there are several things you are required by law to do.
Post on all public entrances post a BY STATE LAW NO SMOKING WITHIN 8 FEET OF ENTERANCE sign
Post either in your place of business in clear site or on your entrances a SMOKING IS PROHIBITED sign
Move all smoking extinguishing devices at least 8 feet from any public entrance.
Remove all ashtrays or other smoking paraphernalia from the public view.
The state has provided a toolkit for your business to receive free of charge at www.BreatheIndiana.com.
This site also has answers to frequently asked questions about the ban and other important information for
you to know.
New Tax Filing Law for Businesses
Effective Jan. 1, 2013, ALL businesses in Indiana must file and pay
their sales and withholding taxes electronically. Businesses currently filing paper coupons will need to transition to filing via the state’s INtax program or use a third-party vendor to electronically transmit forms ST-103 and WH-1. This is required by Indiana law.
“Electronic file and pay is advantageous to both businesses and the state. It provides a quick, easy
and secure reporting mechanism, full time taxpayer access to filing and payment records, and secure
payment options. Electronic filing significantly reduces filing and payment processing costs for both
business and the state,” Commissioner Mike Alley said. “This is clearly a win-win solution for Indiana.”
Beginning next year, businesses will be required to file their sales and withholding electronically. The
easiest way to file and pay is by using INtax, the Department’s free, electronic filing and payment system.
Taxpayers can also fulfill mandate requirements by having a third-party vendor or tax professional
manage their tax obligations. These third-party agents must file and pay electronically as well.
The Indiana Department of Revenue recommends taxpayers register with INtax and begin filing
electronically as soon as possible to avoid the January rush. INtax features filing and payment history, 24/7
access, ACH debit (electronic funds transfer) and credit card payments, and business tax management from
one login.
If taxpayers fail to register, they risk non-compliance and consequently having to go through the
collections process, tax warrants and a possible loss of their Retail Merchant Certificate.
To learn more about the electronic mandate and INtax, visit www.in.gov/dor/4336.htm or call the INtax
Hotline at (317) 232-2337.
