ORPA’s
The Official Newsletter of the Ohio Rifle & Pistol Association
December 2015 – January 2016
De Dominic Tedde, a member of the Civilian Marksmanship Program under the Western
Reserve Fish and Game Association, the Niles Eagles, and a member of the Junior NRA,
received top honors in the 2015 ORPA (Ohio Rifle Pistol Association) Ohio State Three
Position Championship held on June 21, 2015 in Vienna, Ohio with a total AGG of 1057/17.
He also took top honors in the 2014 Championship Match.
In the 2015 Kreidler Match, Ohio State Outdoor Prone Championship, also held in
Vienna, Dominic clinched first place with a total AGG score of 1582/93. He has been
shooting competitively for five years and is the son of Pete and Linda Tedde, Hubbard, Ohio.
We congratulate Dominic Tedde. The award signifies dedication and hours of practice not to
mention the expenses behind such an achievement. Dominic represents what is good about
involving youth in the shooting sports. Keep up the good work Dominic! May all your ventures
be as successful as your shooting.
A Message from the Past President, Robert Sacco
It has been my honor and privilege to serve as the President of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol
Association and I thank all of you for your support and understanding. I am at the end of my
third term and cannot succeed myself so this will be my last President’s letter and Annual report.
My intention is to continue to serve as a Trustee and try to promote the ORPA at any venue that
will have me. I don’t plan on going away but to continue the valuable work of the Association.
Look for me in the pits at Camp Perry, Cowboying at Miami Rifle & Pistol Club, Middletown
Sportsman’s or Piqua Fish and Game. I hope to be on the line as a safety officer if we get the
Pop-up shoot back. I’ll be around working with junior shooters and Buckaroos, as many of you
do. Your work bringing the next generation of shooters along and introducing new shooters to
the sport is invaluable, keep up the good work!! Please continue to support our ORPA Junior
teams by purchasing sweepstakes tickets, all proceeds of which are divided equally among the
junior disciplines.
We have had some problems with access to Camp Perry due to budget constraints imposed on
our military by the current administration. While we strive to be apolitical don’t forget to vote for
real change and to protect our second amendment rights. The ORPA is the NRA state affiliate
and I feel confident we can follow their lead on the political fight to preserve our fundamental
rights. While we have had our problems, the state of the Association is strong. Think about
coming to a trustees meeting and getting involved in the management of the Association. We
need like minded individuals who are willing to give a little of their time to preserve and promote
this great Association and insure the continuation of the shooting sports and our freedoms.
In closing I wish all the best to all of you, the trustees and the members, those who I’ve met and
those who are friends to be met, your support has been truly appreciated and I’m sure it will
continue for the next President.

Air Pistol League by Dan Pauley
Well here it is the end of another league. This past 10-week league seemed to move faster than normal. Seems like we
just finished the nationals at Camp Perry and now here it is starting another season. By the time this makes print we will all
have had that snow shovel out and tuned up.
Sadly we lost our range within the 4H facility. The building is going to sale and our range had to move. They were kind
enough to allow us to salvage the target trap and some of the accessories. My humble apologies to the people that didn’t
know we were moving league shoots to the Brunskill Armory range. I thought I had told everyone.
I think shooting league in the back of the Brunskill Armory will work out well. We hope to have the rebuilt target trap by
soon at the new facility. Chris Jones has been kind enough to offer the use of his training room one night a week for the
league to use. I believe it will get some extra traffic in the store for Brunskill and I think we may end up with some more
shooters from his customer base.
I want to do some needed repairs on the big target trap and hope to have them completed by next week. I’m thinking to
use duct seal putty in the area directly behind the target cardboard then a ballistic nylon curtain and or carpet to cover the
remaining area of the trap. Open to ideas if someone has built a high volume pellet trap in the past.
I hope to see a few league members take advantage of the monthly matches at the CMP range at Camp Perry this winter.
They have monthly matches utilizing the Gary Anderson CMP Competition center.
Based on the spread sheet I used to tally the scores it looks like Zac Coffing is getting bumped to the Expert ranks. Ethan
Clark has moved up to Sharp Shooter score. Congratulations to both of you. Both Dane and I are right on the cusp of
Master. A good season for all. I would like to thank those who made it down to OSU for the international matches. Our
little club was well represented. Congratulations to Ethan on his first medal. His scores at OSU earned him the top of the
C-Class.
As a prize for this season, who ever scored highest average score who is not already an ORPA (Ohio Rifle & Pistol Assn.)
gets a year membership from the club. Dane and I are already members so Zac it is on you. Are you an ORPA member?
If you are not currently an ORPA member and would like to become one, log on to:
http://www.orpa.net/index.php/membership. We are an ORPA affiliated club so consider joining to learn about other
shooting events and marksmanship opportunities within Ohio.
Those persons interested in joining the fun with our little air pistol league; We have weekly league shoots Tuesday
Evenings About 4:30 until 8:00 at Brunskill Armory, 300 Tilden Ave. Mount Vernon OH. We have loaner equipment and
training available. The only thing you need to bring is the desire to improve your marksmanship.

2015 ORPA Pistol Report by Rick Pozo, Pistol Director/Trustee
There were a number of new shooters gracing the lines at the ORPA Pistol Matches this year. The numbers
were down a little this year compared to last, but the new faces have me hopeful that we are starting to see a
swing in the right direction regarding attendance. With the name change to Precision Pistol (dropping the
Conventional – Bullseye Pistol moniker) we are looking forward to continued progress in attendance in the
upcoming year.
ORPA Team and individual shooters did exceptionally well this year. As you can see we had 3 Individual National
Champions this year, in the Woman’s, Senior, and Junior classifications. So you can see that we have an
extremely talented group of shooters moving up in the ranks on a National level. The ORPA Service Pistol team
won the Oglethorpe Trophy (Civilian Champions) again this year, taking the top spot in 5 of the last 8 years
(2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, and now 2015). In fact, the Service Pistol team finished third overall to take the bronze
in the Gold Cup Trophy Match, which is the open division and includes all of the military teams. This is the 4th
time in the past five years that an ORPA team finished in the top three places (2nd overall in 2010, 2nd overall in
2013, 3rd overall in 2014, and 3rd overall in 2015).
A recap of the 2015 ORPA matches highlighting the class winners in each match can be found in the Annual
Report posted to the ORPA website. It’s great to see the individual shooters scores increase from year to year. I
know that many of the Ohio shooters have increased their personal bests this year and I wanted to congratulate
them in their successes. I wanted to thank everyone who attended the matches throughout the year. Without
the support of everyone who runs, volunteers, and participates in the matches we would not have the funds
available to field and take Teams to the NRA & CMP National Championships at Camp Perry.
Here is a list of the ORPA Pistol Matches for 2016. Look soon for the match bulletins on the ORPA website
