• Custom Rod & Reel, Lighthouse Point
• RJ Boyle Studios, Deerfield Beach
• Ray’s Offshore Tackle, Boca Raton
• call Drew Kettelhut at 954-588-0508 for alternate entry methods
5. At least one member of each vessel’s tournament crew must be present
at the Kick-Off Party to sign in. If this is not possible, contact
954-588-0805 before Nov. 12 to make other arrangements.
6. The tournament rankings will be determined by the heaviest
combined weight of up to two swordfish per vessel.
7. An additional “Pelagic Fish” division will also be available. Winners
will be determined by the heaviest combined weight of up to three fish
from an aggregate Dolphin/Wahoo/Tuna catch. (Bonito & Skipjack
tunas excluded.) Pelagic Fish do not need to be called-in.
8. Official tournament channel is VHF 72.
9. This is a “Rod and Reel” tournament. Manual and electric reels are
permitted, but must be mounted on a conventional fishing rod. The
new “wishbone” style rod from Lindgren-Pitman is permitted. Bandit,
boom, winch, hydraulic or other fishing devices considered by the
Committee to be in violation of the spirit of the tournament are
prohibited and may not be present on any vessel.
10. It is the responsibility of all participants to abide by state and federal
fishing and permit regulations.
11. Boats may leave from their home port, but must “check-out” via
VHF 72 or by phone 954-588-0508 no earlier than 8:00am.
12. Boats may start fishing for tournament fish at 8:00am.
13. In order for a swordfish to be eligible for any category in the tournament,
the length must be a minimum of 50” from the fork of the tail to
the tip of the lower jaw.
14. Once a swordfish is boated, you must notify the committee boat
(VHF 72) of its LJFL length. In order for your fish to count in this
tournament, confirmation from the committee boat must be received.
15. In an effort to document the swordfish released during this tournament
accurately, please notify the committee boat of all released fish.
16. Boats must stop fishing for tournament fish at 4:00pm.
17. You may only transport your fish to the weigh station in the boat
it/they were caught on, by water. No trailering over land.
18. The weigh station will be located at the Alsdorf Park (14th Street)
boat ramp, 1 mile south of Hillsboro Inlet. See map —>
19. The weigh station will be open from 2:00pm – 6:00pm. If you are still
hooked up to a fish at 4:00pm, you must notify the committee boat.
In order for that fish to count, you must arrive at the weigh-station
by 6:00pm. No Exceptions!
20. In the event of a tie, the earliest time of the last tournament-eligible
boated swordfish on a vessel will be the tie breaker time. The committee
boat will document the official time of all boated fish.
21. All participants who enter and fish in this tournament do so at their
own risk. In the event of unsafe weather conditions (Small Craft Advisory
or Hurricane/Tropical Storm warning), the tournament will be
rescheduled for the following Saturday, until the event may commence
in safe weather conditions. Entry fees will not be refunded.
22. Flagrant rule violations, as deemed by the Committee, will result in
disqualification from the Tournament. There will be no refunds as a
result of disqualification.
23. Any protests must me made by no later than 6:00pm, on the day of
the tournament. All protests must be in writing along with $200 cash.
24. All Swordfish Tournament prizes will be paid-out. In the event that
less than the 1st-5th payout positions are filled, the payouts will be
recalculated in decreasing amounts according to the number of vessels
due a prize. If only one vessel weighs an eligible swordfish, that vessel
will receive all tournament prize monies. In the event that no swordfish
are caught, the tournament will be re-run the following Saturday, until
a winner is determined. Entry fees will not be refunded.
25. The “Pelagic Fish” division payouts will be 50/30/20 to the top three
positions; 60/40 if only two positions are filled; or winner-take-all if
only one payout position is filled. Ties will be split equally. If no
dolphin, wahoo, or tuna are weighed in the Pelagic Fish division, that
prize money will be added to the total tournament prize money, and
dispersed according to the swordfish division payouts.
26. Cash awards will be paid by check and mailed within 5 days following
the event, contingent on passing a mandatory polygraph test. If you
win a cash prize, you must provide tournament officials with a payee
name, address, and SSN/EIN. A 1099-MISC will be issued for all
