Box 491526 Redding, CA 96049 www.whiskeytownsailing.org address correction requested If you don’t see a “2010” on your mailing label and have not received a 2010 membership card, it’s time to renew! (Remember, no trophies for non-members!) Semper Paratus Whiskeyt wN Sailing Club News May 2010 established to foster and encourage the spor t of sailing Regatta preparations progress; moonlight summer series planned The last few meetings have renewed my feeling that WSC can and will rise from the ashes it found itself in 2 years ago. It’s not an easy process, as you can imagine. But new members who actually show up and contribute ideas and enthusiasm are making it happen. It’s encouraging to have Nancy and Jake Cartwright and Bill Keller and Bob Power and Mike Archibald and Jim Samuels and Chris and Jim Kelly and the new Cynthia not only taking part in the effort but showing real interest in our success. WhiskeytowN Memorial Regatta 2010 May 29-30th visit www.whiskeytownsailing.org for details or call 224-1675 or 547-5779 register online, by email or snail mail Discounts for early registrations (by May 7th) We’re ready to go for the regatta! Are you? Get registered EARLY! Nancy says “You will have fun! This summer in this club! Or else!” and we believe her. Several ideas to make sure this happens were tossed around. I like the pirate-themed Walk the Plank off the top of the Barge cannonball contest. Our daughter, Rosie, mentioned that we should revive the Beauty and the Beast race which is understandable as she has won it twice. There was also the Whiskeytown Inflate-a-pool toy-around the buoys race. These and also raft-ups and some not on the lake get togethers were mentioned. If you have any ideas along these lines let us know by phone or e-mail, or even better bring them along with you to the next meeting. In closing I would like to again thank Chief Ranger Jim Richardson out at Whiskeytown for his help and encouragement. Gorden Briggs, Commodore CREW MATCH Please go to the Crew Match link on our site and list your availability to crew, or to have your boat crewed upon! Barge committee replaces wooden decks, carpeting, revamps ladder and scoring board rack. Gorden worked with Mikes Kelly and Archibald, Bill Keller and Ron Hanford to do upgrades for the decade . . . these should last for a while. Now we need paint! Friends of Whiskeytown plans luau at Brandy Creek Beach May 8th, 5pm This is their annual fundraiser and the beach will allow for a larger group to attend, as the event has been growing each year. Friends of Whiskeytown is hosting a full-fledged luau complete with tiki torches, hula dancers, and a roasted pig. A silent and live auction will be held with some very enticing items, and it is the only night of the year you can enjoy a cool adult beverage on the beach at Whiskeytown. Consider joining this funfilled evening and help raise funds to hire college students to build trails in the park! Purchase tickets at Kent’s Meats and Groceries, Crown Camera, Sunset Marketplace, and the Visitor’s Center at Whiskeytown.
