www.bmt.org Caimen®-90 Fast Tri-bow Fast Landing Craft Reducing host ship vulnerability by launching landing craft further offshore presents design and safety challenges. Increasing speed to ensure the delivery and offload of similar quantities of vehicles, stores and personnel within the same timeframe means finding a balance between capability, operating concept and cost. Caimen®-90 Fast is a highly capable fast landing craft designed by BMT Defence Services and BMT Nigel Gee, two companies with a pedigree in independent design, strong technical capability, proven record of innovation and an extensive portfolio of designs; particularly for high-speed vessels. The design features a novel, tri-bow monohull constructed from aluminium. This hullform has been extensively tested and the capability of the design has been proven not only in terms of speed but also seakeeping and manoeuvrability. Features and Benefits • Caimen®-90 Fast is able to operate at high speeds with heavy payloads, allowing faster amphibious offload from a host ship compared with slower, more conventional landing craft; • Host ship vulnerability is reduced thanks to greater flexibility in stand-off distance from the shore or objective; • Caimen®-90 Fast benefits from excellent seakeeping and manoeuvring characteristics, with less than 1 knot speed reduction in sea state 4, promoting consistent effectiveness across a range of operational areas; • Confidence in the safe and efficient delivery of troops and vehicles is assured thanks to its inherent beach stability; • Good access to machinery reduces the maintenance burden to the crew; • Three high speed diesel engines coupled to waterjets offer inherent redundancy and maximises craft availability. www.bmt.org Characteristics Main Dimensions Length (overall): 30.0m, Length (waterline): 27.3m, Beam (overall): 7.7m, Draught (maximum): 1.5m Capacities Fuel: 13,500 litres, FW 200 litres, Deadweight (max): 90 tonnes Accommodation Passengers: 7, Crew: 3 Speed MBT load: 22.0 knots, all-terrain vehicles (ATVP): 28.5 knots, Light load: 40.0 knots Power and Propulsion 3 x diesel engines, each 1939 kW at 2450 rpm, 3 x gearboxes, 3 x waterjets Example Payloads 4 all-terrain vehicles (ATVP) or 1 main battle tank (MBT) Please note: British Patent submitted for the hullform For more information on our landing craft designs, or for further information about BMT’s capabilities in the defence sector, please visit our website or contact us at the offices below.
