the press kit now. - DJ Pete Savas presents "Press Play"
Introducing DJ Pete Savas:
DJ Pete "Jester" Savas is a native "New York City Boy" living in Salt Lake City,
Utah, who started DJing in 1984. The nickname came as a result of his style, and more
aptly, his personality: Between mixes, a glance at the booth is likely to find this DJ dancing
with as much energy and enthusiasm as his crowds do. Pete was chosen from a field of
over 100 DJs, by a panel of industry-professional judges and the station listeners of Gay
Internet Radio Live (G.I.R.L. – www.gayinternetradiolive.com) as the GayDays DJ
Contest winner, playing a pool party in Orlando, FL during the GayDays 2009 celebration!
Pete is now featured on the station’s regular schedule, with a twice0weekly hour-long
show.

In 2006, Pete was selected, out of a field of 24 DJs from around the country, to be the
headliner for REAL BAD XVIII at San Francisco’s 1015, playing a nine-hour “soaring,
triumphant” set to a packed house of 2,300 that party-goers are still talking about today!
Since then, Pete has become a regular in San Francisco, counting "Sanctuary," the
"PLAY" T-dance, “Swallow,” and a residency at SF’s “Best Bar Party” two years running,
“Bearracuda” as his own. Pete has also wowed crowds in Vancouver, B.C., Los Angeles,
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Provincetown, San Diego, Sacramento, Seattle, as well as on the
playa at Burning Man 2007. Additionally, Pete launched his Podcast, “Press Play,”
(available through the Apple iTunes store) in 2007.
At home, Pete has played most of the gay clubs in Salt Lake City at one time or another,
opening for guest DJs Don Bishop, Brett Henrichsen, Phil B, Neil Lewis, Joe Bermudez,
Julian Marsh, Brian Pfiefer, and Frank Abraham. He's headlined Utah's, and Southern
Utah's Gay Pride celebrations since 1999, and headlined for Salt Lake’s 2008 Winter Pride;
earned the prestigious 2001 "Golden Spike Favorite DJ" award, was featured at Queer
Lounge in Park City during 2008’s Sundance Film Festival.
Musically, Pete's something of a chameleon. Whether you're looking for dark-and-dirty,
fun-and-funky, dreamy-and-euphoric, or just a good healthy dose of diva and house, this
DJ delivers, adjusting his sound to the venue and the audience. But don't just take our
word for it, listen for yourself! He'll definitely leave you begging for more.
For Pete, DJing is about more than just a packed dance floor; it’s about sharing the music
he loves. That passion is evident every time he takes to the decks.

Some REAL BAD Reviews:
“[F]irst-time Real Bad DJ Pete Savas, of Salt Lake City, took us on a soaring, triumphant journey of
beautiful melodic techno/trance, holding us in the palm of his turntable until the very last note at 4am,
after which he received a thunderous and well-deserved ovation.
I haven't been that moved by a DJ's performance in a long, long time…”
Joe, “Joe.My.God.” (http://joemygod.blogspot.com)
“I then decided after that great day that I HAD to go to Real Bad, which was from everything I had
heard the most circuit like party of the weekend, and I am SOOO glad that I did! I had reservations
about paying so much money for a DJ that I had never heard of, but my friends assured me that they
rarely made mistakes, and they sure didn't. The DJ was from Salt Lake I believe, and he played one
of the best sets I have heard this year. It was a set that had a definite journey, and went through
various transitions. I closed the party, and he was very sweet at the end and started crying while
thanking everyone for the best night of his life.”

“Nine hours. This DJ had nine hours to take this crowd on a journey unlike anything this crowd, this
culture, this community, this City sees at any other time during the year. That's what makes Real Bad
such a special night.
“This DJ was up to the task.
“Beginning at 7pm with, admittedly, pop-oriented mixes, he took his time, weaving and bobbing like a
boxer, hinting at what was to come, building anticipation but keeping things comfortable. Then at
midnight it all changed. It turned sexy, dark, but not alienating. No anonymous beats here, but warm
synths playing sultry melodies. By 2am, he'd worked the crowd to the point of a sexual frenzy, and it
was a toss-up as to what was garnering the most attention: the music that was sending nearly all into
the stratosphere, or the carnal happenings on the floor itself... Then it stopped...
“After a phenomenal, and new, to me, remix of U2's ‘Where the Streets Have No Name,’ it all just
stopped. And slipped into the beautiful opening piano solo of a song I now know to be called
‘Shipwrecked’... talk about apt. The song explodes into a silky trance track that the DJ then molded
the last two hours of his night upon, building and taking away... just like the surf breaking on a rocky
shore. But the kicker. The thing that caps the night. The song that makes you believe that DJs aren't
all soulless automatons just pressing play on their CD players. The DJ closed his near phenomenal 9
hour set with ‘Home’ by Zero 7. If you don't know the track, go out and buy it NOW.
“But really, what made it all so special was looking up at the DJ booth and seeing that he was having
just as much fun, if not more, than the rest of us. All night. That he was, in fact, human, and prone to
all the emotions that we on the floor were also feeling...”
