PRESIDENT’S REPORT - Derran Frampton
The new season is upon us and I would like to thank all of those members who attended
the AGM and supported the election of the new committee. There was a lot of thoughtful
discussion from the floor which demonstrated to me the commitment that many of you
have towards this truly great club.
There is a list of the committee members below and their contact phone numbers. If you
have questions, suggestions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact any of us. If
you see me or any of the committee around the club and want to talk please make the
effort to say hello and talk to us. I commented at the AGM that I wanted to improve the
communication around the Surf Club and this will go a small way to achieving that.
You will hear a lot more over the next few months around the club about a process called
corporate governance. What is it you may ask? Quite simply it is a framework that will allow our club to work in a more structured, transparent way that ensures that we meet our
obligations to the Association, to you the members and ensures that we meet our legislative requirements. More on that later however may I assure you that in the short term you
will see no difference as to the way our club operates. In the longer term you will see a
definite improvement in the way we do things from competition entry to subsidy applications and lots more.
One item that we are working on now for implementation prior to the season start is our
activity calendar for the year. We are going to put fundraising dates, carnival dates, club
functions, training dates etc into one document so that we as a club can plan our busy
lives. The proficiency dates are set and are outlined on the next page. You can access the
draft competition calendar for SLSQ on their website: www.lifesaving.com.au and go to
’sports’ then ’competition calendar’. This will no doubt change but at least it gives you the
opportunity to start planning your competitive season. At time of printing we do not yet
have the ASRL calendar but will get that to you as soon as possible.

31 Mar - 6 Apr 2014. Are you coming to Aussies? If so, please contact Terri and let her know asap so
that we can get an idea of numbers. At this stage, we have accommodation booked in the centre of
Perth for 65 people. Price for accommodation is dependent on numbers and how much fundraising is
done. Air fares are to be organised by yourselves and depending on your efforts in fundraising, part or all
of this fee may be reimbursed.

Renewals are due 1 August 2013.
Fobs will be deactivated on 16 August
for those members who are not financial.
Please have membership paid before
you attend your proficiency.
To save on time and paperwork,
please do your proficiency paper
online by going to
www.lifesaving online.com.au
You will need to bring the proficiency
certificate that shows you have completed this online which is available to
print out once you have completed
the online paperwork.
Membership forms are being emailed /
posted out. Please fill out and pay
by cheque, cash or credit card.
Payments can also be made online by going
to www.surfguard.slsa.asn.au.
I will still need your signed membership
form if you pay via this method.
