Directions
Our Host Hotel is the Comfort Inn, located at I-70 and
Airport Boulevard. From I-70 take Exit 285 South
(Airport Blvd.) and turn left into the Comfort Inn.
From Denver International Airport, take Pena Blvd.
and exit at Airport Blvd/East 40th Ave. Drive South
on Airport Blvd. to the Comfort Inn.
The race site is the Aurora Reservoir, located 20 minutes from the host hotel. There is a $5.00 per vehicle
entrance fee to the park, which will be waived on race
morning for Athlete vehicles prior to 8:30 a.m. Spectators not traveling with a competing athlete must pay
at the gate.
The most direct route to the Aurora Reservoir is to take
Airport Blvd. south from the host hotel to 6th Avenue
and turn left (east). 6th Avenue eventually becomes
Gun Club Road. Stay on this road as it continues past
Buckley AFB and over E-470. Several miles later you
will see signs for Quincy Avenue and the Aurora Reservoir. Turn left on Quincy and right into the reservoir.
Packet Pick-Up
You will need to show a valid USAT card at packet
pick-up, or pay the $10 USAT One-Day Fee. No Exceptions. Most participants who are not annual members of USAT have already paid the One-Day fee when
they registered for the race. If you are an annual member of USAT and you forget your card, you must pay
the $10 fee - please remember your card.
Since we are allowing packet pick-up by mail, we also
require you to initial and sign our “Pre-Race Briefing”
which is provided in written form. A copy is included
in this information packet. This means you do not have
to attend a pre-race briefing in person - cool!
A friend or family member may pick up your packet
for you, but they must come with a copy of your valid
USAT card (if you are a member), and a signed note
that it is OK for them to pick up your packet for you.
They must also bring your signed and initialed “PreRace Briefing” form.
If you are not a USAT member, and you would like
someone to pick up your packet for you, you must call
or email us at least 5 days before packet pick-up to let
us know if someone will be picking up for you so we
can be sure we have all of your One-Day USAT paperwork in order.
One person on a competing relay team may pick up the
packets for the entire team, but again, you must contact us at least 5 days prior to packet pick-up or your
packet will not be available.
Please be sure to bring the proper documentation
with you or the packets cannot be released. No exceptions!
General Packet Pick-Up will take place at the Comfort Inn from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday
September 15th (see directions above).
Early Packet Pick-Up will be available at Excel
Sports in Boulder from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on
Wednesday September 12th. Please do not call Excel
Sports for information on packet pick-up. They are
letting us use their parking lot, but do not have additional information.
Excel Sports is located at 2045 32nd Street in Boulder.
From 30th Street, turn east on Walnut (across from the
new Twenty-Ninth Strreet Mall). Turn left on 32nd
and Excel is located just ahead on your left.
Packet Pick-up By Mail
If you would like to receive your packet by mail, and
avoid traveling to a packet pick-up location, this service is available for a $15. You will receive your bib
and bike frame numbers, your swim cap, sweatshirt,
and racer goody bags in the mail during the week prior
to the race.
A Packet Pick-Up by Mail Request Form is included
in this information packet and must be filled out completely and mailed in along with the required documentation listed on the request form. Requests must
be RECEIVED by us no later than September 5th. Requests received after September 5th will not be honored.
Pre-Race Meetings
To make your pre-race preparations less time consuming, we have included the information normally covered in our pre-race briefing as a part of this information packet.
Please read this sheet carefully, and initial and sign it
where required. You must turn in a completed “PreRace Briefing” form to get your race packet.
As racers ourselves, we realize that for some of you,
attending a meeting prior to your event is just another
distraction in your preparation for the race.
We also realize that some of you also wish to ask questions prior to the event. Please feel free to email us
prior to race week with your questions – or attend the
question and answer session at 8:30 a.m. on race morning on the beach just outside the transition area.
Any import last-minute race information will be announced on race morning.
Race Course
Swim: Swimmers will complete 750 meters in the Aurora Reservoir. The start will be in waves which will
be posted on our website during the week before the
race, and also at packet pick-up on September 12th and
15th.
Water temperature in the reservoir in September is typically in the sixties and wetsuits are strongly encouraged.
Bike: The bike course is an out-and-back 20K (12.4)
mile rolling route. After exiting the reservoir drive,
riders will turn right (east) on Quincy and ride to a
turn-around point, then return via the same route.
Run: The 5K (3.1 mile) run course is an out and back
format on the bike path that borders the lake, with aid
stations approximately at each mile. Bathrooms are
located along the run route.

rule.

and Athena finishers will not be eligible for age-group
awards.
RELAY TEAMS: The top-3 relay teams in Male, Female, and Coed divisions will receive awards in the
triathlon. A Triathlon team consists of 2 or 3 participants.
****You must be present to claim your award – unclaimed awards will be raffled off and will not be
mailed.
Pre-Race Dinner
Since athletes and their families often have different
tastes, we do not organize a pre-race dinner. Instead,
we have made arrangements with the Country Market
Restaurant & Buffet to include pasta dishes in their allyou-can-eat buffet (less than $10 per person).
The Country Market is located directly across Airport
Blvd. from the Comfort Inn and their regular menu includes a wide selection of entrees at reasonable prices.

Pre Race Briefing
IMPORTANT!!!
This form must be initialed, signed and dated where required, and turned in at packet pick-up in order to get your
race packet. Each number of a relay team must fill out one of these forms.
In lieu of a pre-race meeting, we are allowing you to skip this step in the registration process and read the following informational sheet. You must initial each section of the sheet, and sign and date on the opposite side. In
doing so, you are acknowledging that you have read this form in it’s entirety and understand what is contained.
Please feel free to email with your specific questions, or attend our Q&A session at 7:00 a.m. on race morning.
initial_____ TRANSITION: Sprint Triathletes will rack their bike in the marked “Sprint” area, and long course
triathletes will rack their bikes in a separate area. Bikes found in the wrong area will be moved during the swim.
The transition area is first-come, first-served. Please rack your bike then come out and get body marked. Volunteers with markers will be located just outside the transition area. The transition area is open to racers only.
Please have your friends and family wait for you outside of the transition before, during and after the race. You
will be required to show your number to enter the transition. This will be strongly enforced after the race when
athletes are removing bicycles and gear from the transition area. Your bike # must match your PAPER bib #.
Body marking will not substitute for the paper number. This is done to verify that each bike leaves with it’s rightful owner. In previous years, our volunteers were yelled at by a number of competitors for enforcing this rule. If
you are too wiped out from the race to retrieve your won gear, a volunteer will assist you. Please do not harass our
volunteers – if you don’t like the rule please yell at me. THERE WILL BE NO RIDING IN TRANSITION –
A MOUNT/DISMOUNT LINE WILL BE LOCATED AT THE BIKE IN/BIKE OUT END OF TRANSITION.
<Continued on next page>
Pre-Race Briefing, Cont’d
initial _____ TIMING CHIP DISTRIBUTION: Timing Chips will be distributed on race morning at Body
Marking. You must show a PHOTO ID and your paper bib number to receive your timing chip. In order to provide packet pick-up by mail, and to allow friends and family to pick up your racer packet, we must verify your
Photo ID on race morning when you pick up your chip. There will be no exceptions to this rule. If you do not
have your photo ID, you will not be allowed to race. Timing chips are worn on the left ankle.
initial _____ SWIM: Each racer is assigned a color coded swim cap. Please start in the appropriate wave as
designated by your swim cap. The swim is an out and back route. Kayaks and patrol boats are located along the
route. If you feel you are getting into trouble, please flag down a boat. The water temperature on race day is
typically in the mid-to-low sixties. Wetsuits are strongly encouraged for all racers. Please practice in your wetsuit
before race day.
initial _____ BIKE: The bike route is held on scenic rural country roads. The entire bike course is open to traffic,
so please ride on the right side of the road. Motorcycle marshals will patrol the bike course. This is a non-drafting race, which means you must leave at least 3 bike lengths between your bike and the one ahead of you. If you
attempt to pass, it must be completed within 15 seconds, at which time the overtaken rider must drop back.
initial _____ Bike Cont’d: You are required to wear a helmet while on the bike course. The helmet must be
buckled before mounting your bike, and cannot be unbuckled until you dismount at the finish of the bike route.
You will be disqualified if you violate this rule. There will be a follow vehicle on the bike course, so if you need
a ride back to transition, just wait and it will arrive.
initial _____ Bike Cont’d: All bike handlebars must have solid end-plugs. Participants who do not have solid
end-plugs in their handlebars will be disqualified.
initial _____ RUN: The run course is an out-and-back format with aid stations approximately every mile. You
must wear your paper bib number on the front during the run. This will allow race officials and our race photographer to identify you. The tear-tag at the bottom of your race number may be collected at the finish. Please do
not remove it prior to the race.
initial _____ BBQ: The post-race Bar-B-Que will be served to the long-course athletes beginning at noon. A
BBQ lunch is not included in the sprint entry fee. If you would like a BBQ lunch, tickets may be purchased on or
before September 7th. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased prior to race day.
<Continued on next page>
initial _____ PAPER BIB NUMBER & TIMING CHIP: One last time, your paper bib number is required on
the run course, and to retrieve your gear. You must show a Photo ID on race morning to obtain your timing chip.
No ID = No Race
initial _____ RELAYS: Your tag-zone is just inside the transition area near the bike exit. Cyclists do not need to
rack their bikes, and may warm up and wait for their swimmer (or runner) in this zone. Volunteers will ensure that
you do not interfere with exiting solo athletes. The chip-exchange at both the start and finish of the bike segment
takes place here. Swimmers start the race with the timing chip. Following the swim, swimmersmust run through
transition and transfer the chip to their cyclist. Folowing the bike, riders must transfer the chip to their runner.
Runners must run through the entire transition before starting the run course. This ensures that solos and teams
all complete the same course. Chips for all disciplines must be worn on the left ankle.
initial _____ RESERVOIR OPENS: The gate to the reservoir opens at 6:00 a.m. sharp. There is no need to
begin lining up at 4:00 a.m.
initial _____ RACE INFO PACKET: All current additional information on the race is contained in the race
packet you received by email or at registration. Please read this info carefully. It is your guide to the event. You
should make a copy of this form for reference.
initial _____ FINAL INSTRUCTIONS: Any additional information will be posted to the race website and/or
announced on race morning.
I verify that I have read this in it’s entirety and understand the information it contains.
