Sedgefields Plantation
Sedgefields Plantation
Alabama’s most historic hunting preserve
“If there is a heaven
on earth, it surely must
be in Bullock County,
Alabama”
- Lewis Maytag,
founder of Sedgefields
Plantation in the
1920’s.
Historic Sedgefields Plantation is a one of kind property in the
state of Alabama. This 4,257 acre outdoor paradise offers great
hunting across the board. The eastern most reaches of Alabama’s famous black belt soils course throughout the property.
Deer hunting whether by bow or rifle is exceptional from beginning to the end of the season. Turkeys abound all over the
expansive hardwood bottoms and mature upland pine stands.
Home to the National Amateur Free-For-All Field Trial much
of the property is intensively managed for quail production.

No plantation would be complete
without first class facilities and Sedgefields Plantation is no exception. The
main lodge is a newly constructed
8,000 square foot masterpiece. Furnished in early American décor the
building fits comfortably into the style
of a southern plantation. Seven bedrooms along with six and a half bathrooms give plenty of room to spread
out and relax. Whether you are out on
the back porch enjoying the view of
the lake or inside by a roaring fire in
the spacious den, luxury surrounds
you. The professionally equipped
kitchen and laundry/mud room complete with ample space for guns, shell
and muddy boots add to the touches
of a home any outdoorsman would
love.
Big Lake, Sedgefields Plantation’s 135 acre reservoir, holds trophy bass, huge
bream and crappie. Feeders located around the lake and the stocking of threadfin
shad provide a food source to maximize bass production. The marshy upper end
of the lake is home to waterfowl during the winter months. Wood ducks, mallards
and a variety of species can be harvested.
The Cedar House, a 3 BR/ 2BA log home, is perfect for weekend guests or overflow
from the main lodge. The large fireplace and cedar walls give the house a warm feel
on the coldest of winter days. A five stand sporting clay range is a short walk from
both the main lodge and Cedar House, providing hours of enjoyment for the experienced or beginning shooter. A twelve stall horse barn has storage for square bales is
in the loft and two tack rooms for the horse and the mule teams. Two large metal
maintenance buildings with concrete floors are situated near the barn. The plantation manager’s office is located in the newest of these. Among other amenities include a walk-in cooler/skinning shed, dog kennels and a firing range.
