President’s Letter
Head of School’s Letter
Dear Parents, Alumni and Friends of The Stanley Clark School,
Dear Stanley Clark Families and Friends,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your generous support of The Stanley Clark School over
the past year. The 2014-15 year was a particularly exciting one, as we broke ground, watched construction
with awe and anticipation, and celebrated completion of our beautiful new Hiler Hall. Our dream of creating
wonderful new learning space for our Lower School students and a warm, welcoming main entrance to
our school, as well as uniting our school community under a single roof, has been beautifully realized.
Clark students and families will be enjoying these wonderful opportunities for years to come. All of this
construction and improvements have been achieved without any debt, thanks to the generosity of our
Stanley Clark Community.
As I reflect on the year, I am struck by both stability and change, consistency and progress. Our mission,
our core values, and our traditions remain strong. We focus daily on our mission to promote excellence in
academics, the arts, athletics, and character. These four pillars define the essence of the Clark experience.
And Olympic Day, Final Assembly, and commencement photographs on the atrium stairs are just a few of
the traditions that convey our identity and strengthen our community. These things speak to the soul of The
Stanley Clark School, which transcends the bricks and mortar and lives in the experiences and memories of
every child who passes through our doors.
In addition to our major construction project, we are happy to say that, thanks to you, our annual giving has
exceeded expectations, with increased support from parents as well as alumni. On behalf of the Board, I
am humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support for our School.
We also embrace changes that enable us to build a stronger Stanley Clark School community. Most notably,
Hiler Hall rises in the heart of our campus, bringing the entire Stanley Clark family under one roof. By the
time this goes to print, we will inhabit a beautiful new space and enter through a new front door. Thank
you so much to Mrs. Margaret Hiler and her family for their extraordinary and transformational gift.
Clark offers a remarkable experience academically as well as in the arts, athletics, and character
development. The foundation Clark students develop here, during these precious early and middle years, is
the basis on which they build their achievements in high school and beyond. A child’s time at Clark is truly
priceless, and we are grateful for your recognition that annual giving plays an essential role in our ability to
offer the best education in our region.
Thank you as well to everyone who played a role in making 2014-15 a fabulous year at The Stanley
Clark School. Thank you to the students who worked hard academically, athletically, and artistically,
and demonstrated excellent character during the year. Thank you to our faculty and staff for the passion
and skill they bring to our students every day. Thank you to our Board of Trustees and countless other
volunteers who make this place tick on a daily basis in myriad ways.
As we look ahead, the Board of Trustees continues to make fiscal and strategic decisions based on The
Stanley Clark School’s mission and core values. Thank you for your trust, confidence, and generous support
for our School.
Most importantly, thank you to the families who entrust us with the education of their children. We strive
every day to earn that trust and, with your support, will continue not only to provide a superior educational
experience but also to build a tight-knit and enduring community.
With gratitude,
Melissa Grubb, Head of School
Leslie D. Callahan

2014-2015 Financials
The Stanley Clark School’s net assets as of June 30, 2015 were
approximately $13.0 million, including an endowment of approximately
$4.6 million. As with most independent schools, tuition is the largest
source of revenue and covers approximately 78% of the school’s budget.
The school relies on income from its endowment and the support of
the greater SCS family through philanthropic giving for the amount not
covered by tuition and other revenues. Every gift is a direct investment
in academic programming, our talented faculty members, and our
facility at The Stanley Clark School.
The Stanley Clark School is a 501(c)(3) organization and is therefore
exempt from federal and state income taxes. A copy of the school’s
federal tax form 990 is available upon request. The school has received
an unqualified opinion on its financial statements from its independent
auditors, Crowe Horwath, for the past 27 years.

Charitable annual giving at The Stanley Clark School supports us in many ways ranging
from operating budget to the permanent endowments. All gifts play a vital role in
Clark’s financial success.
Each year, The Clark Annual Fund and Kaleidoscope raise unrestricted dollars to support
the school’s operating budget. This money helps alleviate the variance between the cost
of educating a child at Stanley Clark and the tuition that is collected for our students.
Some benefactors choose to designate their gifts to support specific programs or needs.
Permanent endowment ensures that The Stanley Clark School will be here to serve its
community for generations to come.

The Merlin
Project
Merlin Project Donors
I have a story to share with you that has roots
in profound loss, but is propelled by gratitude,
optimism and a deep belief in the value of
relationships.
offered to match 10% of funds raised up to $50,000.
That night $24,500 was raised in less than 10
minutes.
Shortly after Kaleidoscope, Kelly Bellinger and
I met to discuss best use of the gifts. First and
foremost, in honor of the relationships Merlin
so wonderfully nurtured, we determined that
regardless of “what” is built, its “purpose” must
be rooted in building community, fostering
relationships, and honoring the essence of true
friendship that Merlin embodied.
If you attended Kaleidoscope, you know how the
story begins. Brad Foster called me the morning of
the auction to share the story he planned to tell that
evening. Brad’s empathy for the Bellinger family
upon the passing of Merlin is deep and personal
as he, as a seven-year-old, lost his own father to
leukemia. Chris Murphy, Kelly Bellinger’s father,
eulogized Brad’s father. What you did not know that
evening was that a written copy of that eulogy was
in Brad’s jacket pocket as he spoke.
To that end, it was decided that significant
enhancements to the new LS playground plans
would fulfill this purpose not only for children,
but adults as well. This new playground, named
in perpetuity for Merlin Bellinger, will provide a
warm, happy place for children to forge life-long
relationships as well as an outside space where
parents are encouraged to do the same.
Of the many aspects of Brad’s loss, one that stands
out for him is the absence of a permanent, tangible
“remembrance” to help elicit the special stories that
keep the happy memories of his father vivid and
alive. While there is so much no one can fix about
the death of parent, Brad wants to fix this aspect
for MCB (Merlin Christopher Bellinger) and Avery
Bellinger.
Thank you to all who donated, this playground
will be a lasting reminder of the importance of
nurturing relationships, regardless of how old we
are; a gift Merlin shared with so many.
And with that, what is currently called “The Merlin
Project” was born. Brad told his story at the end of
the evening at Kaleidoscope and raised funds that
would go to build something, yet to be determined
at that point, lasting and meaningful at The Stanley
Clark School in memory of Merlin. Brad graciously

Kaleidoscope 2015 37th Annual Dinner Auction
This year we celebrated the 37th Annual Kaleidoscope Dinner Auction chaired by Donna and Brad Beutter.
Many hours of planning culminated into a wonderful community celebration and fundraising event. We are
grateful to all the current parents, faculty, local businesses and friends of SCS who contributed to the success
of this year’s event. Because of this community’s support, we were able to net approximately $304,000 for
the school. Thank you!
