June | July | August 2015 Summer Reading Club Read to the Rhythm at the library this summer! Readers of all ages are welcome to join our summer reading club. We are introducing a new online platform that will track your progress, let you know when you have earned a prize, and automatically enter you in drawings when you reach certain goals. All readers will earn incentives along the way and will also receive a free book for completing all 6 weeks of the program! In addition to completing your reading goals, you can also participate in fun library challenges to earn up to four entries for our grand prize drawings. As board member for the Polish Genealogical Society of America, genealogy columnist for the Polish American Journal and author of books on Polish and wider European genealogical research, Steve is a knowledgeable source of information about researching ancestors from this part of the world. Come hear what he has to say! We are excited to begin offering computer classes in our new state-of-the-art digital classroom! Class size is limited to 15 patrons. Please bring any account information with you to the appointment. 2 Tyna’s Angels Wednesdays | 7 p.m. July 22 and August 19 Looking for an opportunity to help those in need and be part of something big in your community? Tyna’s Angels, a small (but mighty) group of volunteers, works tirelessly to supply mats for local homeless shelters. These mats are used as a pad to sleep on, or as a blanket to provide warmth. Many hands will make light work as we help to construct these mats, and there’s something for everyone to do! We also need plastic shopping bags. No need to register, just show up ready to help out and have fun! n Lunch & a Movie Fridays | Noon Bring your lunch and we’ll provide the drinks and dessert. Create a playlist with at least 5 songs to accompany a book. Songs can fit the story as a whole, describe a certain scene, or even be a character’s theme song. We will publish your playlist on Spotify and your submission will enter you in a drawing to win an iTunes gift card! Adult Programs The UNIVERSE – coming soon to your own backyard! Beginning this summer, patrons with valid Wauconda Area Library cards will be able to borrow telescopes from the library! Our LoanStar Telescope initiative is a result of the library’s partnership with the Lake County Astronomical Society. The LoanStar Telescope is a powerful 4.5” aperture Orion telescope that has been specifically modified for ease of use by library patrons of all ages. Each telescope is also equipped with user manual, constellation guide, compass, and special red headlamp for reading the guide and manual when under the stars! A whole lot of fun for all ages – bring your friends! Tuesday, June 23 | 7 p.m. Gather your friends and join us for a relaxing evening of music and creativity as we paint a pretty picture on canvas. We strongly recommend that you call/email before coming to the library, to ensure a notary is on duty. Also, you may want to ask about your document, as there are several we cannot notarize (I-9 forms, real estate transfers). A governmentissued photo ID must be presented at the time of service. Friends of the Library, STAR Runners, and all sponsors, volunteers, runners, and walkers of the 4th Annual Wauconda Bunny Hop Study/Small Meeting Rooms Post-renovation, we have 3 private rooms which can accommodate 4-6 people. Make reservations online at www.wauclib.org or by calling/emailing the library. Reservations can be made up to 7 days in advance, for 1 hour at a time. You can reserve the room twice per day (2 hours total). If no one has reserved the room after your reservation ends, you may remain in the room until someone else requests it. Please call/email ahead to make sure that one of the registrars is available. To be eligible to register to vote, you must be an Illinois resident, a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age by election day, and have been a resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to election day. Bring a photo ID with you. If your photo ID does not have your current address, you will need a second form of ID with your current address. Reserve items online and pick up the same day! Did you hear about a book on the Today Show and want to read it? Did your friend finally talk you into watching Call the Midwife? When you go online to check the library’s catalog, you can reserve a copy through your library account. If we have it on our shelf, we will pull it for you and have it ready for pickup within the hour! You will need to have your library card number and password to access your account online.
