Dear Families:
We are thrilled to share with you our plans for a Youth Services Department makeover! Our community deserves a welcoming, accessible,
and interactive space—one that will meet your family’s needs. We look forward to hearing your ideas and are excited to design a new, improved youth area in spring of 2016. Here are some changes you can look forward to:

We are curating a core collection of children’s materials, so it will be easier than ever to find what you’re looking for, and to unearth new
treasures while you browse! We look forward to helping you and your children rediscover old favorites and experience modern classics with
new, comfortable seating with multifunctional options. There will be space to chat with other parents and caregivers in “social seating,” or read
privately with your child. There will be room to relax and enjoy a performance on the floor, or study at a round table—all in a modular space
designed to meet your needs as they arise.

We’ve heard your concerns about screen time! We know it’s a challenge to balance your children’s need to master 21st century digital
literacy with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendations for limited screen time and more imaginative play. Screens won’t be the
focus in our new Youth Services Department; rather, kids will flock to our interactive play areas and more accessible collection. When it’s time
to dive into the world of new media, kids can borrow our iPads with carefully-selected educational and “just for fun” apps.

The initial conceptual plans include something new for everyone! Our youngest friends will love our new interactive features. Parents,
new readers, and teachers will appreciate face-front picture books grouped by subject, so that kids can easily browse and collect all the train
or fairy books their hearts desire. Middle schoolers can relax and hang out in our cafe-style Junior High nook designed just for them.
We are delighted to have the privilege of creating an updated family area tailored to your needs. Stay tuned to our website at
www.winnetkalibrary.org for updates, and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces in our new Youth Services space in spring 2016!
