Our outstanding educators, supportive parents, highly motivated students, dedicated administrators, and wonderful support staff all create a dynamic educational environment at Hinsdale Central. Each day, we will recognize a different group: Monday 11/17 Tuesday 11/18 Wednesday 11/19 Administrators Teachers Parents and School Board Thursday 11/20 Support Staff Friday 11/21 Students Thank you to our staff members, administrators, HHSTA, PTO, Breaking Down the Walls, Character Counts! Student Life Committee, Varsity Club, Key Club, Ambassadors, German Club, Business Professionals of America, Senior Class Board, Yearbook, Peer Leadership, SADD, International Club, Upper Room and the Athletic Department for contributing to our planning and celebrations during the week. Thank you to everyone who works to make Hinsdale Central a wonderful place to learn, to teach, and to work! CONSTRUCTION The east access road along the staff lot is currently closed. The access road is being used to house construction traffic during the renovation of the softball field. We apologize for the inconvenience, but hope this construction project provides a much needed facility upgrade for our softball teams. Staff, students and parents should drive with extreme caution while navigating the limited drive space we have on our campus. Please plan extra travel time into your daily commute to accommodate the closed access road on the eastern most point of the Hinsdale Central campus. 8 T H GRADE PARENT NIGHT EVENT 8th Grade Parent Night: A Conversation about Your Student’s 4-Year Hinsdale Central High School Academic Plan Thursday, November 13th, 7:00pm Clarendon Hills Middle School OR Wednesday, November 19th, 7:00pm Hinsdale Middle School This event, open to all Hinsdale Central feeder school 8th grade parents, will feature John Bruesch, Hinsdale Central’s Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction and Mark Kolkman, Ed.D., Hinsdale Central’s Principal. Mr. Bruesch and Dr. Kolkman will share insights and advice with parents about the Hinsdale Central curriculum, registration process, and factors to consider when working with their student to compile his/her four-year high school academic plan and to select freshman year classes in January 2015. Please register online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/D8FBX3T * UPCOMING PTO MEETING/CONVERSATIONS Reminder: PTO Meeting Monday, November 17th at 8:45 a.m. in the Community Room at Hinsdale Central High School. Don't miss "The Ins and Outs of AP and Honor Classes" presentation at our PTO Conversations at 10:00 a.m. immediately following the meeting. Our very own assistant principal John Bruesch will present. Remember, you will need a state-issued picture ID to enter the high school. PARENT PARTICIPATION DAY Our annual Parent Participation Day is on Wednesday, November 19. The purpose of this day is for parents to have an opportunity to spend all, or part, of a regular school day attending their child’s classes. We believe that parents benefit by knowing, as realistically as possible, what their student experiences each day. The day does present some logistical problems for us, mostly due to “space,” we do not have much extra space in classrooms or parking. Therefore, we ask that each family only have one parent participate at a time so that there is space in classrooms. Parking is a more vexing issue. With the staff and student parking lots full, we do not have any parking for parents. In addition to the circle drive parking on Grant Street and 55th Street, parking will be available on 57th Street between Garfield & Madison (north side only). Please pay close attention to the signs that will be posted. We recommend that parents arrange to be dropped-off and picked-up. The Teacher Training Room, 124B will be available as a coatroom for parents where the PTO will provide coffee, water, and treats. We do ask that parents follow their child’s schedule, attend the whole class - not enter late or leave early. In addition, we ask that all electronic devices are silenced or powered-down to respect the learning environment.
