Depart Honolulu via KOREAN AIRLINES flt #2 at 10:40 am. Day 2: Fri, Dec 30 – TOKYO. Arrive Tokyo at 3:20 pm. After entry formalities, transfer by motor coach to hotel in Tokyo. Enjoy dinner at the hotel. GRAND PACIFIC LE DAIBA (5 Nights) (D) 031416 Day 3: Sat, Dec 31 – TOKYO – NIKKO – TOKYO. Today we head north of Tokyo to Nikko. Nikko is a town at the entrance to Nikko National Park, most famous for Toshogu Shrine, Japan’s most lavishly decorated shrine and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. On the way back to Tokyo, stop at a michi-no-eki, a road side rest stop where locally produced food and crafts are sold at reasonable prices. (B, L) • Yokohama • Hakone visit the Meiji Shrine and where you will get to experience hatsumode, the first visit to a shrine (usually Shinto) of the Japanese New Year, in which wishes for the new year are made, new omamori (charms or amulets) are bought, and the old ones are returned to the shrine so they can be burned, first hand. The Meiji Shrine is dedicated to the deitified spirits of the Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. Before returning to the hotel in Tokyo, we will spend some time in the visually stimulating Harajuku Shopping District. (B, L) Day 6: Tue, Jan 03 – TOKYO – YOKOHAMA – TOKYO. Our first stop this morning is the Chinatown in Yokohama. Developed after the port of Yokohama was opened to foreign trade in 1859, it has become the largest Chinatown in Japan. Then visit the Red Brick Warehouse buildings in Yokohama. Formerly the Customs Inspection House for the port of Yokohama in the 1920s, the buildings have been converted into Yokohama’s most popular family or date spot. Inside the buildings are unique shops and restaurants, and outside, throughout the year, special events take place, like a skating rink in the winter. Finally view the beauty of the Sankeien Gardens before returning to the hotel. Sankeien is a spacious Japanese style garden, with its pond, small rivers, flowers and wonderful strolling trails that make you think you are in Kyoto rather than in Yokohama. Among the historic buildings exhibited in the park are an elegant daimyo (feudal lord) residence, several tea houses and the main hall and three storied pagoda of Kyoto’s old Tomyoji Temple. (B) Day 7: Wed, Jan 04 – TOKYO – HAKONE. We start the day with a stop at a COSTCO Membership Store. Never know what you’ll find for the perfect “Omiyage”! Next, stop at Arakuryama Sengen Park, one of the best places in Japan to view the amazing natural beauty of the iconic Mt. Fuji. Then take a relaxing cruise on beautiful Lake Ashi before transferring to the hotel in Hakone. This evening soak your body in the healing hot springs of Hakone. Try traditional and artistic Japanese cuisine; Kaiseki – Traditional MultiCourse Dinner – expresses the beauty of the season using fresh seasonal ingredients in fine Japanese ceramics. A “must-do” luxury! Life is good! HAKONE SENGOKUBARA PRINCE HOTEL (1 Night) (B, L, D) Day 4: Sun, Jan 01 – TOKYO. Full day at Leisure. Great day to explore the Shinjuku Area. (B) Day 8: Thur, Jan 05 – HAKONE – HONOLULU. This morning, try your hand at “HakoneYosegi-Zaiku,” inlaid and mosaic woodwork unique to this area. Next take the 20 minute ropeway from Togendai to Owakudani. Owakudani Valley offers splendid views of Mt. Fuji when the weather is good. Share your many memories with some old and many new friends. Depart Tokyo at 9:00 pm via Korean Airlines flt #1. Arrive Honolulu same day at 8:35 am. Aloha and Welcome Home! (B, L) Day 5: Mon, Jan 02 – TOKYO. Start the day with a visit to Lalaport Toyosu, one of the largest shopping malls in central Tokyo. Located by the waterfront, Lalaport has many shops that carry both international brand names as well as local favorites. Today’s highlight will be a hands-on Sushi-Making session, which will yield your delicious lunch. After lunch, Book early and save! Explore Japan on your next vacation!
