Meeting Minutes

Jennifer Moorhouse
Before the beginning of the final third of the year there’s
been a hint of autumn in the air. We’ve enjoyed a mild summer of soft, moist, green yards, prolific vegetable and flower
gardens, visits with friends and family, and relaxation during
mountain and beach vacations.
Remembering our past puts the present in perspective.
September of 2009 was our first club meeting at Freeland
Chevrolet. Thank you to Freeland Chevrolet for four great
years of support. This September we will not be meeting at
Freeland. We will gather for our annual club picnic at Edwin
Warner Park. Look for the details on our events calendar. We
always have fun at our annual picnic, but right before our annual picnic is our fifth annual NCC sponsored car show. 2009
marked our first annual NCC sponsored car show. It was Halloween themed back then, called “Spooks and Spokes.” Now,
we welcome in autumn leaf colors with “Touch of Gold.”
Successful events each year require a lot of ambition and dedication. A lot of you have been working very hard and each
year our annual car show has been growing bigger and better.
The success of NCC events is due to your enthusiasm, participation, and support behind the scenes.
Meeting Date: 12 August 2013
Meeting Location: Freeland Chevrolet, Antioch, TN
Meeting called to order at 6:30 PM by President Jennifer Moorhouse.
Opening remarks – President – Jennifer Moorhouse:
Jennifer opened the meeting asking club members to remember those members that were having health issues. A moment
of silence was held for all persons.
Car Show / Shiner Report – Gary Downing and Roger
Boychek: Gary noted that the car show committee had their
last meeting earlier in the month. He then reviewed various
items concerning the show such as: Great sponsorship from
both members and outside persons and businesses, that we
have three signs up now at O’More, there will be a golf cart
available for use at the show, check signup sheets for workers,
50/50 tickets will be available, work party on the 8 th before the
show on Saturday, trailer parking is available at the Methodist
Church parking lot, need to arrive at the show around 7:00 to
7:30 on Saturday, Don Hoffmeister will bring the club trailer
and John Hawkins will take it back, Bob Williams has the banners, vendor locations have been laid out, may ask Freeland to
display a new Corvette and that trophies and dash plaques have
been taken care of. Work party will start at 1:00 the day before the show. Janice Geng noted that we have a few door
prizes, but still need a lot more. Responses have been very
poor this year from merchants. Terry Rucker talked about
judging: noted it was easy to do, that the Battlefield Club
would judge the Corvettes, any new judge would be put with
an experienced judge, no drive through judging and that we
will do a judging class if people are interested. The bake sale
will be on the front porch of the pavilion building where the
music is set up. Karen Hoffmeister mentioned that the bake
sale needed: coffee urn, tables, table cloths, trash bags, water,
price signs, easel, ice chests, ice, coffee filters, coffee, cups,
sweetener, creamer, napkins, plates, spoons, and of course
food to sell. All food should be individually wrapped. Note
any ingredients for allergies. No sausage and biscuits. Note
sign up sheet on table to bring items to sell.
Vice President – John Hawkins: Sandy Jones talked
about and thanked club members that helped her granddaughter feed the hungry earlier in the month (240 persons). Mike
Venable talked about the cruise to Florence to eat lunch and
listen to jazz. Roger Boychek talked about the Ardmore Car
Show (1100 cars), the upcoming Dickson car show and the
Music City BBQ downtown on August 24th. Dan Svitanek
Charity News
NCC Board
No charities were selected for support during August. The NCC Board selects activities for charitable support on a quarterly basis. If anyone has a
worthy cause to support please let one of the Board
members know the details.
Typically individuals are not considered due to
potential misuse or misrepresentation. However, in
cases of dire emergency, an exception may be made
if the cause is supportable.
As a general guide, organizations that have significant overhead costs are not the type of activities
our organization wishes to assist. The goal is simply to ensure any funds directed to a charitable cause
gets direct benefits to individuals who needs assistance.
While this organization is all about enjoying the
Corvette, we also contribute to the overall community through limited charitable assistance as resources permit. Charitable efforts are not intended
to be the main focus of this organization. Contact a
Board member if you have any questions.

Car shows were very popular this August, and for the most
part the weather was great. August 10th a few members went
to Ardmore rain free for one of the area’s biggest shows. The
following Saturday we made our annual August trip to the
Chevy Show in Dickson. All club members who attended
came away with trophies and a good time was had by all. Trophies were actually picture plaques much like our Touch of
Gold Trophies. The club also won another club participation
award.
By the time you read this many will have showed their ride
at The Music City BBQ Car & Motorcycle Show in downtown
Nashville on Saturday August 24th. Following that we'll all
get busy for our own Touch of Gold Show in Franklin on Saturday September 7th. I hope to see all the shiners there.

I would like to thank all members who have attended the
planning meetings, purchased trophies/dash plaques, contacted
businesses to sponsor classes; and distributed numerous flyers.
There are so many to thank; trying to remember all the names,
I’m sure I would forget 1 or 2. There is one special thank you
I would like to make; to Mark Hillard, President of O’More
College and his wonderful staff. Mark has allowed our club to
hold this event on the beautiful O’More College campus for 3
years.
Let’s pray for good weather and lots of great cars to attend!
The next NCC Autocross is just a month away. Get your
racing gear out and start your engines. We still need help to
monitor the course, so all help is greatly appreciated. The
flyer for the event is on page 11 of this issue. Contact me if
you have any questions.

Once you have it sealed,
inspect the seams and make sure
you do not have any gaps. Now
do a functions check, Lock,
Unlock, Trunk and Alarm. Put
the Fob in your pocket and see
that your doors open and the car
starts. If not, make sure its
sealed tightly...if not, the battery
clips will not make contact with the electronics. Other problems could be the battery is installed upside down or it's not
making good contact with the retaining clips.
A word of advice, change the battery in only one key Fob
at a time. You want to make sure you have at least one working Fob at all times.
Editor Note: The process for both the C-4 and C-5 is almost the same. The size and make-up of the case and its internal parts differ slightly. In fact most key fobs for the majority
of vehicles can be executed in mush the same manner.
Key Fob Battery Replacement
Copied from Corvette Forum by Ken Miller
For those of us who have pulled engines or transmissions
you might think a Key Fob battery replacement is no biggie...in fact it is not, but if done wrong or you break your Fob
you could be in a real jam.
The below takes the mystery out of changing the battery
and anyone can do it. Hope this DIY thread helps.
Edit: The Fob below is for a 2005-2007. I would suspect
the process would be similar for others (2008-2013), but in
truth I don't know that for sure. Please use care when opening
the two halves. The seal is tight and if you use too much force
or don't open evenly from side to side you may break the case.
Thnxs to 68/70Vette for his warning on this issue for the newer Fobs.
The Steps: First you need to purchase the
batteries. You can get them at most places,
and I picked mine up at a local chain auto
parts store. There are two to a pack, and
enough to do two Fobs.
Next remove your key ring from the Fob. You need to do
this so you can open it.
Locate the slot on the front side of the Fob and use a quarter to
pry it open. If you use a smaller mil
coin or screw driver you will have too
much play in the slot and could mar
your Fob. Once you crack it open, use
your coin to work it open evenly from
one side to the other till the halves are
separated. The Fob has a water tight
seal which requires you to open it evenly or risk damage.
Once you have it open this is what
you will see. On one half you have the
electronics and on the other the battery.
You can remove the battery by
carefully placing a screw driver under
it and lifting.
There are 3 clips which hold it in
place, and once you pry it loose from
one clip, the battery will lift out.
If for some reason when you lift the
battery out, you might lift the whole
clip assembly out too...no biggie if it
does. In fact, once I had my battery
out I took the clip assembly out and gently pushed a little on
the clips to tighten them up. Just note (you can use these photos if necessary) how it goes back into the FOB. Take your
new battery with the positive side down (it will be marked
with a + symbol) and press it into place. You do this by placing the battery under two clips and working it under the third.
To put it back together, place the halves together starting at
the top of the FOB (opposite the key ring slot). There are two
small dog ears that fit into slots. Working from the top end,
use your thumb and forefinger to press the sides together,
working evenly from side to side. The seal requires you to
press firmily for the Fob halves to go together. NOTE: I have
read where some use a Que-Tip and small amount of Vaseline
on the seal for ease of putting it back together...in my case it
was not needed.
FCOA currently has three fundraising items for sale:
“Vinny the Vette – Meets His New Parents at the
National Corvette Museum” ($9);
“Corvette” – Mike Mueller with Bob Woods ($9);
“Generations Art-Coloring Book” ($10).

Corvette related children’s books. Please consider ordering copies to help FCOA.

offered assistance, then a car full of teens asking if I wanted
them to push the languishing Corvette out of the traffic lanes,
which I was pleased to have them do. Then as time went on
slower than turtle racing (if you ever waited for help alongside
the road) several other concerned citizens offered a helping
hand. Then I heard a small voice coming from the house behind me. The resident was calling to me, over the din of passing trucks and cars. I looked and she was offering me a parasol and bottled water. This woman was clearly struggling to
navigate through the yard towards me. She was very elderly
and frail appearing, dressed in a long summer dress with
bright colored flowers all over it. A tear appeared in my eye
as she handed me the umbrella and water. I asked her what I
should do with the umbrella once my wife rescued me. She
said, “young man I live right there”. I chuckled and she went
back to her air conditioned home.
To make this story clear to everyone, I have found that
most people in America are just like me. They want to enjoy
life, pursue happiness and make those they encounter comfortable in their presence. Not only that, but these folks will go
out of their way to assist a human being that seems to be in
difficulty. Don’t be afraid of our fellow citizens because then
those darn old terrorist win and we have lost our humanity to
fear. We are not in Iraq or Afghanistan where terror is normal. We are in America where love is normal and people care
for one another.
The wife did, at last, come riding in, on her Big Black
Steed and saved the day. The sweet corn, that I had found,
while off the beaten path, was as delicious as any I’ve ever
consumed. Sweet Corn, Sweet People, and sweet memories
experienced in a sweet Corvette!
On My Soap Box
By George J. Kimble
The Nashville Corvette Club always has lots of events to
participate in. I was encouraged by some of the membership to
go along this time to one of the biggest car shows in the region, but alas I wasn’t able to commit to tagging along with
those who had signed up. Then on the Saturday morning I
was suddenly able to make the decision to visit the auto show
in Ardmore, Tennessee. Ardmore is a city in Giles and Lincoln counties, Tennessee. The population is 1,213 on the city
limits sign. Ardmore is the site of a Tennessee Department of
Tourist Development Welcome Center. It borders its sister
city, Ardmore, Alabama.
When I left out of my driveway the weather was very foreboding and likely according to the prognosticators to have
some showers along the path. Since I was late for the meeting
up I went along the 80-90 or so miles to the show as a solo
Corvette. I passed a few antique cars and got to the show in
good time and dry. I parked the car in the show area and went
about ogling and picture taking. I found the Nashville Corvette Club members and spent a very short time enjoying their
company and looking at their beautiful machines. This was a
massive show with around 4-5 hundred cars on display and it
took a good long while to see all the machines, eat a rib-eye
sandwich, and pack up to leave. I knew leaving with the massive show would be trying so I left early to beat the traffic.
I had noticed a Flea Market sign on my way in and decided
I had time to browse through it. I am glad I did. I bought a
dozen ears (14 in that locality) of fresh picked Peaches and
Cream sweet corn. More on that later. Now I like to drive the
back roads (what Corvette enthusiast doesn’t?) so I took a
road less traveled. I saw some beautiful farm land and a couple of small towns all gussied up for summer. I stopped here
and there at “Junk Stores” and found a few pieces of what my
wife loving calls “yard art”. I was in hog heaven. Now the
rest of the story and my reason for writing…
I am aware that we are always bombarded with news of
this bad act and that bad person by our media folks. I know
they have to have something to write or put on TV. Drama is
what sells commercials. Here is my story of real life drama.
My alternator failed as I was about five miles out of Murfreesboro TN on a 5 lane wide stretch called Veterans Parkway just
north of the Hwy 96. I called my wife and told her where I
was and could she please find my jumper cables and bring
them with her big black truck to rescue me. Look, I know
every time I go driving in my antique cars there is a chance for
an “adventure” or “disaster”. You know “Drama”. My wife
would have to drive about 25 miles through heavy traffic
(3PM coming out of Nashville). So I expected to be there
along the open road for a while. As I sat in humid 90 degree
(maybe hotter along the pavement) with my Corvette hood
open strange things started to happen.
A two tone king-cab pick-up filled with people was heading right at me. It then came to an abrupt stop. The driver
jumped out…my heart raced a bit… and asked ,” Are you
okay!”, was there anything he could do to relieve me of my
predicament. I told him I had help on the way and thanked
him for stopping. The other passengers in the car, two small
children and a young lady all smiled and waved as they drove
off. A few moments later a 53 Chevy hot-rod stopped and

Cell Phones for Military
To Order send an email to:
[email protected]
Ken Nesbitt at Freeland Chevrolet is sponsoring a special
program for our US Military, especially those deployed to
South West Asia. If you have an old cell phone around you
can donate it to a worthy cause. Turn it in at Freeland and it
will be used to generate funds to provide free phone service to
deployed military members so they can keep in touch with
family members back home.
Ken has a short video clip on the Freeland web site. Be
sure to check it out for a bit more information. Ken recently
told me they sent off a full box of phones. Great Job!
