Dear Guests,
Welcome to the 13th annual Calhoun Christian School Auction. We are pleased to have you join
us for an evening of fellowship, food, and fun. Our theme for the evening is “There is No Place
Like. . Calhoun Christian School.” In the story told by the classic tale “The Wizard of Oz”,
Dorothy and her friends each have a lesson to learn and a longing deep inside. The Lion longs
for courage to believe in himself. The Scarecrow is in great need of wisdom. The Tin Man longs
to have a heart full of compassion. And Dorothy just wants to be home. As they journey together
throughout the kingdom of Oz they discover they each already possess what they are seeking and
the people with whom you choose to journey with are of utmost importance. At Calhoun
Christian School we believe that each student is also on a journey through life and the education
they receive from school helps them to discover the gifts they’ve been given and how to put
them into action. By surrounding students with adults that love the Lord and that will help
Biblically direct each one on the path God has designed for them, we hope they leave our school
saying “There is no place like CCS!”
Our mission is to provide academic excellence while upholding God’s truth and challenging
children to serve. A part of what enables us provide a Christ centered education, ultimately
leading students “home” to a relationship with the Lord, is the additional funding we receive
from events such as this auction. Thank you for your support and dedication to the vision of
Calhoun Christian School.

On behalf of the 2016 CCS Auction Committee and Volunteers, let me say that it is an honor to
provide you with this evening of fine items, fun bidding, great food, and wonderful
entertainment!
As always, the sponsors and donors for this year’s auction have been phenomenal. I would
encourage you to browse this catalog and familiarize yourself with this great group of CCS
supporters. I would also encourage you to thank these supporters with your business whenever
you can – many have been supporters of CCS for many years!
We have many energetic and dedicated volunteers. They have made the hundreds of hours of
preparation for this evening appear effortless. Please join with me in thanking them for all of
their hard work.
Lastly, I want to thank each and every one of you for being such good supporters of Calhoun
Christian School. It is my hope that you will find the items to your liking and you will enjoy this
event. We chose this fun theme for the auction because it reflects who we are at CCS: it is our
13th Anniversary – and we are a school family dedicated to Christ and teaching our children to
serve Him. We know that God has blessed again this year and it is a time to celebrate, but our
work for the Lord is only part-way done. We ask that you will join with us tonight in not only
celebrating; but in getting out your pens and putting your paddles in the air to support CCS!

Here’s how “Express Checkout” works:
 When you check in for the event, you’ll be asked for the method of payment you wish to
use for the evening. If you are planning to pay by credit card, your card will be swiped
at registration.
 By providing your credit card at the beginning of the event, you’ll eliminate the need to
see the cashier at the end of the night. Before leaving, you review your itemized invoice
reflecting how much you will be charged and then proceed directly to pick up your
items.
Featured Again This Year:
Reverse Bid Scholarship Appeal
A “reverse auction bid” is a special type of bidding process where each bidder in attendance is
given the opportunity to “buy” the item up for sale. In reality, the “bid” is a contribution at a
certain monetary level to fund the special item. Multiple monetary levels are provided so that
each bidder can contribute at some level. This approach gives every person in attendance the
opportunity to take part in this exciting endeavor!
The 2016 CCS reverse auction is being made to contribute to the Calhoun Christian School
Scholarship Fund. These dollars allow CCS to provide partial scholarships to students, who
otherwise would not be able to attend the school. Scholarships have existed since the start of
CCS and have contributed to the well-being of many students in that past 12 years. We hope
to continue that tradition in the future and ask your support and partnership in this endeavor.
Process of the Reverse Bid
 The auctioneer will request a “bid” of the maximum amount and allow all interested
bidders the opportunity to raise their paddles at that monetary level. Once bidding has
ceased, the auctioneer will close the bidding at that level and those bidders will be
recognized by applause.

Benjamin Belote – Auctioneer
Ben graduated from Family Altar Christian High School in 1996. He became interested
in auctioneering in 2001 when a friend from church, John Scholwalter, began to mentor
him to take over his auctioneering business. In the fall of 2001 Ben attended Reppert
School of Auctioneering and worked with John until moving to Japan as a missionary
for the RCA in the summer of 2003. Once he returned from Japan in 2006 Ben began
doing auctioneering on a volunteer basis for charity auctions. Ben and his wife Jeralyn
have three boys, Joshua (Third grader here at CCS), Andrew (First grader at CCS) and Daniel, who is
two years old).
John Bomba – Silent Auction Emcee
John was born and raised in Ohio. A graduate of Ohio University, John is a
Geologist, a true rockstar. John has been married to his lovely wife, Jen for 19 years.
They ave two children at CCS: Owen, who is a Freshman and Lainey, a sixth grader.

Jeff is the current Chair of CCS School Board. He is an avid volunteer at
Calhoun Christian School, ranging from work with the buildings and grounds
crew to chaperoning class mission trips. Jeff has three beautiful daughers. Two
of which attend/ed CCS; Madison, who is a current senior, and Hennessey, a
graduate of the Class of 2014. Jeff’s oldest daughter is a new mom, making Jeff
a Grandpa to the darling Evelyn. In his free time he enjoys golfing and cheering
on the Red Wings.
