This seems to have been a year of growth in Connecticut, as we continue to acknowledge
the thriving creative excellence in our state.
Throughout the year, the CADC strived to make an effort to "REnew, REbuild and REact",
not only within the CADC membership and creative community, but for those in need
around us. At the start of the year, and in REsponse to the devastating hurricanes that
struck the Gulf Coast, we raised money for Habitat for Humanity at our first networking/
membership event last September. We REjo iced at our Holiday event; and in continuing
the tradition of our "Inspire Me" event, we REfreshed our creative spirits and asked to be
inspired and to inspire others. We hosted our most successfu l Student Conference so far and
it is exciting to know the talent that is coming from our schools throughout Connecticut.
As our season ends, the CADC is honored to REcognize and celebrate the works of the
creative commun ity of Connecticut. This show REspects and REwards the work that so
many of you have used your talents and toils to create throughout the past year. We also
honor Tom Fowler as this year's recipient of the Hall of Fame. Tom is being honored and
remembered for a lifetime of achievement and contributions to the creative industry.
We'd like to thank our REvered panel of judges, whom you can meet on the follow ing pages.
They have determined the best of Connecticut from the hundreds of entries submitted
to the show. Please join me in applauding our creative peers. Congratulations to all for a
REmarkable year.
The success of the CADC is achieved through the collective efforts of many who graciously
gave their time, resources and creativity. I'd like to thank all of our generous supporters
of the club whose kind donations and assistance help to ensure the ongoing success of the
CADC. I am especially honored to have worked with such a dedicated and talented board,
who have so generously given their time and talents to help lead the CADC to new levels
of growth and achievement. And a special thank you to Margaret Tobelman, the CADC
executive director, whose efforts and talents give root to the club.
The CADC continues to grow with you ... and as a whole benefits from a direct connection to its
members and ideas, and cannot succeed without your support and involvement. Thank you
everyone for helping to make this year a year to REmember! I encourage all of you to cultivate
and nurture your ideas and talents and watch them flourish ... continued growth to you all.

CADC President
Matthew Schwab is a freelance photographer whose work ranges from studio table tops to locations throughout
the Un ited States and Europe. Born in Phoenix, and raised in Arizona, Maryland, and New Jersey, Matthew
received a BFA in Photography from the University of Hartford, and continued his studies at the
International Center of Photography, Pratt Institute, the Glasgow School of Art and Oxford University.
After spending time in Italy, he spent a year traveling the country courtside with the NBA as an assistant
for Nathaniel Butler. After another two years as partner in a Massachusetts studio, Matthew formed his own
company, and while his home address is in Massachusetts, he and his camera and assistants are happy to
travel anywhere to take a great picture. Matthew's portfolio includes work for clients as diverse as Lego,
Top Flite, Hasbro, PBS, Statestreet, TDWaterhouse, and the bands Motley CrUe and Staind.
Bill Sterling, Proteus Design's Vice President of Visual Communication, has over 20 years experience in developing
successful, brand, packaging and Point of Sale programs. At Proteus Bill leads a diverse group of visual
communications experts in developing consumer goods programs. His extensive experience has led to
successful national and private label product and brand introductions with clients such as Keurig,
Progressive, Home Decor Innovations, Wellington, Intermatic, Elica and Longs Drugs.
Prior to joining Proteus, Bill was Director of Graphics at Group Four Design, where he provided creative
direction and management for all packaging programs. Clients included Reebok, Panasonic, AIWA, Rolodex ,
Playtex, Loctite, Stan ley Too ls, Ingersoll-Rand, Fidel ity Investments and R.R. Donnelley Financial. Prior to that
as a designer with Campbell Soup Company, his responsibilities included packaging design for Campbell Soup
and its subsidiaries. Bill is a Bachelor of Fine Art graduate in graphic design from Temple University's Tyler
School of Art. He is a member of AlGA.
Clifford Stoltze is the founder and creative director of Stoltze Design, a 10-person studio located in
Boston, MA. Capabilities include strategic design for print, interactive media and packaging. Over the
past 20 years, Stoltze has worked with a diverse group of clients ranging from educational institutions
including MIT, Harvard Business School and Massachusetts College of Art, to technology, financial
and entertainment companies including Cakewalk Music Software, Fidelity Investments and
EMI/Capital Records.
Recognized for innovative design solutions and expressive typography, Stoltze Design has received
numerous awards from national design organizations including The American Institute of Graphic Arts
(AlGA), The American Center for Design, The Society of Publication Designers (SPD), University and
College Designers Association (UCDA) and The Type Directors Club. Exhibited internationally, his work
is included in the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and has been
published in numerous design publications.
Clif is currently teaching an advanced design class at Rhode Island School of Design. He was recently
honored by being the recipient of the 2005 AlGA/Boston Fellows Award.
An art director with a passion for strategy as much as execution, Amy has developed branding solutions for
a range of companies in a variety of media.
Currently a creative director at Mechanica in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Amy works with clients such as
Blockbuster, Forest City Enterprises and Barry Diller's InterActive Corporation to create compelling brand
experiences. Prior to joining Mechanica, Amy was a creative director at kirshenbaum bond + partners in
New York, where she led teams on client accounts such as Target, Sony Online Entertainment, l-800-Flowers,
Liberty Mutual Insurance and Tommy Hilfiger. As food for the imagination, Amy also dabbles in illustration,
has published a line of stationery sold in stores such as Kate's Paperie and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design
Museum, and designs a line of ceramic tableware for Mariposa.
Nathan Winstanley is President and Founder of Winstanley Associates, a full-service marketing
communications agency, and Lenox Softworks, a new media development firm, both located in Lenox, Mass.
He has extensive experience as a business and economics writer for various corporations and publications.
He began his business career as a corporate speechwriter and public relations consultant, after which he
joined GE Plastics and served as a communications manager in Pittsfield and Detroit. In 1986, he founded
Winstanley Associates and focused the agency's goals on intensive market comprehension, powerful creative
work and integrated programming.
Winstanley Associates' clients include Spalding Sports, Polar Beverages, GE, Legacy Banks, the Clark Art Institute,
Mead Specialty Paper, Berkshire Health Systems, Simon's Rock College of Bard and Angostura Bitters to name
a few. The agency's work has won many awards from the Albany Ad Club, Massachusetts Office of Travel &
Tourism, Western Mass Ad Club, New England Direct Marketing Association and the Mass. Library Association.
In 1994, Nathan founded Lenox Softworks with two top academics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's
Multimedia Lab to merge their technological expertise with the marketing communications needs of the
agency's clients. The company today has a full-time staff of skilled communications experts and programmers
who are well-versed in developing a full range of on-line communications tools for clients including publishers
John Wiley & Sons and McGraw-HilI. The company has also developed a suite of educational products for the
secondary and post-secondary education markets.
Nathan's vision of electronic media was summarized in his article "The Medium is Meaningless, the Message
is the Thing," which was published in 1995 by New Media magazine. He currently serves on numerous boards
including: Shakespeare and Company, Legacy Banks, Mahaiwe Theater and the Massachusetts Governor's
Competitiveness Council.
Nathan lives in Lenox, Mass., with his wife Kathryn and three children, Nathan, Kaitlin and Thomas.
