Volunteers Make New Friends Beyond Years
$22,301 Raised in
2014 Mother’s Day
Campaign
Thanks to the generous support of our
donors, our 2014 Mother’s Day
Campaign was a great success! In all,
we raised $22,301, an 18% increase
from 2013. This campaign is one of our
major fundraisers each year, and the
proceeds help fund the following
programs:
2014
Our Friends Beyond Years program creates opportunities for
corporate volunteers to interact with seniors around Chicago in a
variety of ways, including lunch service and bingo games. Volunteers
from Neuberger Berman () played bingo with seniors at the Levy
Center in Chicago on April 30. Volunteers from Target on State
Street (right) played bingo and served lunch to seniors at the
Copernicus Center in Chicago on May 8. A fun time was had by all!

King of the River
Our annual event of high stakes and big fun was
held on Friday, March 7 at the Chicago Cultural
Center. Thanks to all sponsors and attendees, we
raised funding for the cost of 14,500 meals for
seniors and individuals with disabilities. That’s a
winning hand in our book!
19th Golf Classic
It was a beautiful day on the links at the St. Andrews Golf Club in West Chicago on June 2!
We raise our clubs in thanks to all of the sponsors and participants. Each foursome
contributed the cost of 350 meals for seniors and individuals with disabilities – even better
than a hole in one!

Janet have been regular supporters of
Meals on Wheels Chicago for many
years. We asked Janet to tell us how
they became donors and what our work
and mission mean to them.
What was your first contact with Meals
on Wheels Chicago? How did you find
out about us?
What makes you a regular donor? Is it
in honor/memory of someone?
Our support was and is very much in
memory of my grandmother and both sets
of our parents. As we saw them age we
could envision the needs of seniors and
other homebound individuals who might
not have the support system ours had and
we wanted to honor that.
I can’t even remember where I first heard
about Meals on Wheels Chicago, it seems
like I have always known about it. My
husband Ramsey and I are very sensitive
to the needs of people of all ages in our
country and around the world. We donate
regularly to a number of worthy
organizations and are very happy to be
regular supporters of Meals on Wheels
Chicago.
Does the Meals on Wheels Chicago
mission inspire you in some way to be
a regular donor?
Meals on Wheels Chicago’s mission is
extremely important and necessary in
today’s environment of cutbacks in so
many areas of our society, and I think that
is incentive enough to feel an obligation to
help others in need.
What would you say to someone if
they asked you about supporting
Meals on Wheels Chicago?
I would enthusiastically encourage
everyone to support Meals on Wheels
Chicago! Donating whatever amount on a
regular basis in addition to volunteering
when possible will give you an enormous
since of gratification as you see people
benefit from your efforts. And the effect
will be felt not only in our city, but our
country and the world.
