Spring Semester Break Travel
March 13-21, 2015
Spring semester class requirement:
SPAN 1800 (3 credits): Spanish Abroad
There will be a service learning
component to the program. See
instructor Michele Keane for details.
Program Costs:
The estimated cost is $2,035 for the nine days
of travel. The price includes airfare, hotel, all
breakfasts, three lunches, tour guide, ground
transportation in Mexico, and all admissions to
the anthropological sites. This price is based on
four persons per room occupancy.
This price does NOT include the tuition for
the courses.

Tentative itinerary: (March 13 - 21)
FRIDAY, MAR. 13
Depart Minneapolis to Mexico City. Transfer from
Mexico City to Oaxaca via deluxe air-conditioned
motor coach including snacks, sandwich, water, and
sodas. Arrival Hotel Casantica in Oaxaca. Rooming
assignment/briefing. Overnight in Oaxaca.
SATURDAY, MAR. 14
Buffet breakfast. Walking tour of Centro Historico
and Zocalo, chocolate factory, Santo Domingo Gold
Church. Late afternoon/early evening: One hour class
session. Overnight in Oaxaca.
SUNDAY, MAR. 15
Buffet breakfast. Morning excursion to Monte Alban,
the most important archaeological site in the state
of Oaxaca – with its temples, palaces, a ball court
and tombs – founded around 500 B.C. Box lunch.
Afternoon visit to the orphanage (Ciudad de los
Ninos). Late afternoon/early evening: One hour class
session. Overnight in Oaxaca.
MONDAY, MAR. 16
Buffet breakfast. Full day excursion with cemetery tour
and artisan villages tour of Coyotepec and Tilcajete.
Box lunch. Late afternoon/early evening: One hour
class session. Overnight in Oaxaca.
TUESDAY, MAR. 17
Buffet breakfast. Free day. Late afternoon/early
evening: One hour class session. Overnight in Oaxaca.
WEDNESDAY, MAR. 18
Buffet breakfast. Excursion to Mitla – another
archaelogical wonder of Zapotecs palaces. Continue to
“Arbol del tule”, this tree is estimated to be 2000 years
old, 40 meters high and 42 meters in circumference.
On to Teotitlan del Valle to learn about Zapotec
weavings and to Mezcal. Box lunch. Late afternoon/
early evening: One hour class session. Overnight in
Oaxaca.
THURSDAY, MAR. 19
Buffet breakfast. Morning visit to the orphanage
(Hogar de las Ninas). Late afternoon/early evening:
One hour class session. Optional Activity: Salsa
dancing. Overnight in Oaxaca.
FRIDAY, MAR. 20
Buffet breakfast. Free day with one hour wrap-up
session in the evening. Overnight in Oaxaca.
SATURDAY, MAR. 21
Buffet breakfast. Transfer from Oaxaca to Mexico City
via deluxe air-conditioned motor coach for return
flight. Depart Mexico City to Minneapolis.
