The halls open for fall 2015 on
Friday, August 21 beginning
at 9:00am. We look forward
to your arrival! Currently, we
are busy preparing for Color
Games, the annual opening
weekend competition
between the residence
halls.
Included with this
brochure is a letter with
your room assignment,
your roommates (if
applicable), a Color
Games T-shirt order
form, your payment
plan, your selected meal
plan and your invoice.
Your room was assigned
to you based on the
preferences indicated
on your application and
the date it was received.

were granted based upon
mutual requests, date
of receipt of application,
and space availability. You

Unloading
Refer to the map below to find your check-in tent. At checkin, you will be required to provide a photo ID and complete
several check-in documents. Check-in tents are only available
on August 21, all other check-ins are completed in the Atrium.

Luggage can be unloaded behind the Atrium. You can enter off
Shaw to Barton following the established traffic pattern.
Unload and Move In
Our volunteer Baggage Buddies will be available to help you
unload and move your belongings to your room on Friday,
August 21 starting at 9:00am and Saturday, August 22 starting
at 10:00am. If baggage buddies are not present at your arrival,
you may check out a dolly or shopping cart from the “Ask Me”
tent to move your belongings.
Reminder!
Don’t forget to move your car to Lot P27 or Lot P30 immediately
after unloading. You are not allowed to park on lawn areas or
maintenance driveways. Lot P27 is the only lot with permitted
overnight parking.

Opening BBQ
Parent Meetings
All residents and their families are invited to our Opening
BBQ dinner at 4:30pm on Friday, August 21. It’s free and
there will be great food! You will have an opportunity
to meet the University Courtyard Staff, Fresno State
Administators and other University members. There will
also be a performance from the Bulldog Marching Band.
During opening weekend, we will have an orientation for parents
and guardians of students living in University Courtyard. Come
take a “breather” while your child is settling into their room. We
will discuss your changing role as a parent of a college student,
how to support your child while they live with us and valuable
resources that you can use as a parent. Come and meet some
of the staff members who will be impacting your child’s college
experience. We also have a Spanish speaking parent meeting
during Opening Day following our english speaking session.
Hall Meetings
There will be mandatory hall meetings the nights of Friday,
August 21 and Monday, August 24 to discuss policies,
meet the staff and get to know your neighbors. Look for
the dates and times of your hall meeting in the check-in
brochure provided upon your arrival in August.
Convocation/After Party
Meet faculty, staff, fellow new students and get in the
Bulldog spirit at Convocation, Monday, August 24 at
3:00pm. We want to ensure all new Fresno State students
are welcomed to their new home. After Convocaton there
will be a huge party including music, games and free food.
Come for the food and stay for the fun!
The “Ask Me” Tent
Not sure where to go or who to ask? If you still have questions
after check-in, University Courtyard will have staff at our “Ask Me”
tent to help you find the answers. The “Ask Me” tent will be located
near the Atrium on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22.
Look for further details in the brochure you receive at check-in.
Information Fair
Come find out about multiple organizations and clubs on and off
campus, as well as have the opportunity to win great prizes! The
Information Fair will be on Monday, August 24 from 11:00am 1:00pm (Subject to change). Look for participating organizations
and the prizes you can win in the check-in brochure you receive
upon your arrival in August.
Early / Late Arrivals
If you need to check-in after 11:00pm on August 22 or are participating in a Fresno
State program that requires you to be on campus any day before August 21, you are
required to notify University Courtyard. Download the required form from our website
www.universitycourtyard.org and send to “5152 N Barton Ave M/S RH82, Fresno, CA
93740.” The form must be postmarked no later than August 4. Call the Atrium Customer
Service Desk at 1.800.555.0482 or 559.278.2345 for confirmation we received the
document. Fees for early arrivals will be assessed on the nightly rate of $21.50 per
night. All early and late arrivals must check-in at the Atrium Customer Service Desk.

When You Get Here
Color Games
Have fun with some friendly competition and earn
bragging rights for your hall! The Color Games are
competitive and non-competitive events and activities
that are played in teams designated by hall. Each team
can earn points through attendance and participation.
The points earned count towards a pizza party that will be
awarded to the winning hall. The events run from Friday,
August 21, through Monday, August 24. Earn points for
your hall and meet your new neighbors. It’s a great way for
everyone to get to know each other and have a lot of fun!

Opening Dance
After a long day of moving in, our opening
dance gives residents the chance to have
some fun and show off their dance moves! DJ
Kay Rich will be here playing music all night.
Casino Night
Vegas-style! Play blackjack, poker and other
casino games. Residents will meet our special
guest dealers and win big.
Campus Scavenger Hunt
This brand new event will feature students
from all across the campus battling it out to
find items around campus.
Other Past Events include:
Watermelon Games, Water Games,
Minute-to-Win-It, Movie Under The Stars,
Game of Thrones, and more!

Newly designed shirts are available for
$12.00 by submitting the enclosed
pre-order form. Shirts will also be available
for $15.00 at the “Ask Me” tent during
check-in on the lawn between the Atrium
and University Dining Hall.

Keycard
When you arrive, you’ll be given a temporary room key. You’ll be required to have
your Fresno State ID card programmed as your room key will expire soon after
you move in. You should have your ID card picture taken during Dog Days. If you
have any questions regarding your student ID card, contact the Bulldog Card
Office at 559.278.5608.
Meal Plans
When you completed your “Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement”
you selected a meal plan. The University Dining Hall (UDH) is open from 7:00am
until 8:00pm Monday through Friday and 10:00am to 8:00pm on the weekends.
Your student ID card will be programmed as your meal card. Each time you visit the
UDH, your card will be swiped and will count for one of your meals. If you find that
you need to adjust your meal plan, you can submit a Meal Plan Change Request
the week of September 21-25, 2015.
There are 3 meal plans at University Courtyard. Platium, Gold, and Silver (returning
residents only). Unused meals roll over from week to week, but not from semester
to semester. Each plan comes with flex cash which provides residents with $150
($200 for Silver Plan) per semester on their Fresno State ID card to use at any oncampus restaurant.
Parking Permits
Parking is enforced 24 hours per day in all on-campus parking lots. To use any
of the available student lots, you can purchase a day pass for $3.00 or visit
the Joyal Administration building to buy either a fall-only or fall/spring pass.
On August 21 & 22, parking in Lots P27 and P30 will be free. Please see signs
posted or ask a University Courtyard staff member for more information.
Internet
Fresno State provides FREE wireless internet access for all University
Courtyard residents. More info will be provided with your check-in packet

August 22. Televisions will need a digital box
converter. Students can pick up a box free of charge
from the Comcast tent on Friday, August 21 and
Saturday, August 22.

If you’re concerned about sleeping in the loft configuration
you can request a bed rail to be installed free of charge.
Fresno State provides FREE wireless internet access
for all University Courtyard residents.
If both roommates agree, tools are available for
reconfiguring the furniture.
Safes
Each bedspace comes equipped with a lockable
safe in the closet. Use of the safe costs $98 for the
academic year and $49 for spring only residents. To
opt out of using the safe and to avoid the $98 charge
($49 for sping only residents) please make sure to fill
out the opt out form when you move in to University
Courtyard in August.

When you check in you will receive your personal
mailbox assignment. The mailboxes are located in
the halls for community-style and in the Atrium for
suites residents. Your address is as follows:

Should you receive a package or large envelope,
a slip is placed in your mailbox instructing you to
pick up your package in the Atrium. Outgoing mail
can be placed at each hall desk or in the Atrium. It
is your responsibility to check your mail daily!

Meet The Staff
The 2015-2016 Residential Life Staff
The Residential Life Staff at University Courtyard are eagerly awaiting your arrival. They are current residents
who understand residence hall living and Fresno State’s campus. Our staff is here to assist you in getting
established in your new home; answering questions, sponsoring social activities, educational programming
and offering peer counseling support throughout the academic year.
Resident Directors
Resident Directors (RDs) are graduate students who are responsible for the day-to-day operation and
administration of a residence hall complex ranging from 200-400 residents. RDs supervise Assistant Resident
Directors and Resident Advisors, handle student conflict and conduct issues within their complex and intervene
in a crisis when it occurs. There is a Resident Director always on duty to handle situations that arise in the
residence halls.
Assistant Resident Directors
Assistant Resident Directors (ARDs) assist the Resident Directors with the supervision of the Resident Advisors in their
building, serve as mentors to the RA staff and function as a Resident Advisor to the residents living on their floor.
Resident Advisors
Resident Advisors (RAs) are responsible for establishing their wing, floor and building communities. RAs advise and
counsel residents, mediate conflicts, develop and present programs on a variety of topics, create opportunities for
interaction, enforce hall policies and support the academic environment within University Courtyard.
Public Safety Assistants
Public Safety Assistants (PSAs) are responsible for the general security and safety of the University Courtyard
community. PSAs handle a variety of conflicts and crises and patrol the halls and grounds throughout the
evening and early morning hours. PSAs also provide late night escorts to residents who do not want to walk
alone on campus.

in community activities and explore your leadership
potential. There are a variety of opportunities for you
to develop leadership skills, and we’d love to help you
discover where you belong. For more information on how

Residence Halls Association (RHA)
Residence Halls Association (RHA) is our premier
leadership group. Its members function as
a representative body of the residents at
University Courtyard. RHA tackles issues and
concerns that matter to our students, and is
always looking to improve life for all students
living on-campus.
Academic Success Committee
A committee that looks for ways to support
our residents academically. This group plans
the Academic Success Banquet each spring
semester for students who achieve a 3.5 or
higher GPA in the fall semester.
Alcohol and Drug Committee
The Alcohol and Drug Committee is a group that
plans events and programs relating to alcohol
and drug related issues.
Diversity Committee
Plans programs and activities about social justice
issues and seeks to promote an appreciation of
differences within our community.
Health and Wellness Committee
Focuses on programs and activities intended to
inform our residents on issues relating to
physical, psychological and emotional health.
Save the World Committee
Implements and plans initiatives geared toward
better sustainability and community service.

Information
Kennel Bookstore
Financial Information
As Fresno State’s only on-campus bookstore, Kennel
Bookstore offers a full line of textbooks and materials for
all of your classes. On Friday, August 21 from 8am to 6pm
and Saturday, August 22 from 10am to 5pm, the Kennel
Bookstore will host a special “Residents Only Sale” with
discounts on select items. Conveniently located in the
center of campus, this is a sale you won’t want to miss!
An invoice for room and board for the 2015-2016 academic year is
included in this packet. The invoice reflects University Courtyard’s
academic year fees based on the room type you were assigned,
selected meal plan and selected payment plan. Payments must be
made according to the schedule to avoid delinquency. Invoices
received prior to July 5th follow the payment schedule below.
Invoices received after July 5th are deferred--you will have 5 days
to remit payment once you are issued an invoice. A $25 late fee
is assessed if a payment is received after the 5-day grace period.
Make all checks payable to University Courtyard and include your
Fresno State student ID number on the check. Credit or debit
cards may be used for payments. If you wish to set up automatic
deduction for monthly payments please call 559.278.2396.

On your Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement you
had the option to select the Financial Aid Payment Plan with or
without automatic deduction. If you didn’t submit your decision
before the deadline, or you chose not to use automatic deduction,
it is your responsibility to pay University Courtyard directly from
your financial aid award. (If you received a financial aid check,
please verify with the University Courtyard accounting
department that your housing payment was deducted and
your balance is current.)
You are responsible for all room and board fees whether or not
they are covered by financial aid.

Cancellation Policy
If you do not have Health Insurance yet, call CSU Healthlink
at 1.800.853.5899 or visit their website
at www.csuhealthlink.com for help
in obtaining insurance. Remember
you must have some type of health
insurance within two weeks of checkin. If you did not list your health
insurance and policy number on your
emergency information card, bring it during check-in. We
can’t help in an emergency if we don’t have the information.
Cancellation: If for any reason you decide not to attend California
Admission
Please note that the confirmation to live in the residence
halls does not mean you have been accepted to the
University. The Admissions and Records Office notifies
you directly regarding your admission status. If you have
questions regarding your admission status, please call the
Admissions Office at 559.278.2261. Remember, all University
fees (tuition, etc.) are due by July 25, 2015. Avoidance of
payment will affect class schedule and possible loss of room
assignment.
State University, Fresno for the 2015-2016 academic year or live
on-campus, you must notify University Courtyard with the required
Cancellation Form via certified mail and postmarked by May 31,
2015. Phone cancellations are not accepted.
May 31, 2015 - A $50 non-refundable application fee and $50
processing fee will be assessed.
June 1 - July 21 - $150 assessed
July 22 - August 20 - $150 assessed along with a $25 per day fee
August 21, 2015 and after – Petition to Cancel Forms are available
at University Courtyard. You must submit the form along with
a $50 processing fee to the Atrium Customer Service Desk. All
Petition Cancellations are subject to approval by the Director of
Housing. If the petition is denied you will be held to the full Terms
and Conditions of the “Student Housing and Meal Plan License
Agreement.”
