www.mainebarrelracing.com INTRODUCTION The Maine Barrel Racing Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sportsmanship, horsemanship, and competitive riding skills by participating in timed events such as barrel racing and pole bending at state fairs and exhibition grounds throughout the State of Maine. Our races are watched by a wide variety of people … we know how to draw a crowd. We feature events in our program including: barrel racing, pole bending, quadrangle, single pole, and youth classes. All of these events are based on time, with the horse and rider’s ability to complete and maneuver around obstacles without getting penalized or disqualified. Our club’s mission is to further promote barrel racing, pole bending, and other timed events of our organization to the State of Maine. We also help support charities that are close to our club. Each year we host at least one fundraiser show and donate a percentage of the profits to the charity of our choice. -1- www.mainebarrelracing.com 2013 MAINE BARREL RACING ASSOCIATION SHOWS JUNE 8 ANDWEMET FARM, BRUNSWICK EXH: 9:00‐SHOW: 10:00 JUNE 15 ELLIS RIVER RIDERS, ANDOVER* EXH: 9:00‐SHOW: 10:00 JUNE 23 KNOX ARENA, KNOX EXH: 9:00‐SHOW: 10:00 JULY 6 SILVER SPUR, SIDNEY EXH: 9:00‐SHOW: 10:00 JULY 28 PITTSTON FAIR, PITTSTON SHOW: 10:00 AUG 3 MONMOUTH FAIR, MONMOUTH* SHOW: 10:00 AUG 17 SKOWHEGAN FAIR, SKOWHEGAN SHOW: 9:00 SEPT 2 WINDSOR FAIR, WINDSOR SHOW: 10:00 SEPT 7 LITCHFIELD FAIR, LITCHFIELD* SHOW: 2:00 SEPT 29 FETTINGER/WATERS, EXETER EXH: 9:00‐SHOW: 10:00 Co‐Sanctioned with NBHA ME01* -2- www.mainebarrelracing.com MEBRA SHOW RULES All riders must show proof that a horse has received its coggins and rabies shots before being allowed to run. Youth: 18 & under as of January 1st. Adult: 19 & over as of January 1st. Proper western attire is required for all events. Western shirts must be worn and kept buttoned. Shirt tails must be tucked in or the shirt must touch the top of the pants. No polo type or t-shirts will be allowed (except on dress-down days). Slinkies can only be worn with a vest. Western boots, clean jeans or pants, and a western hat must be worn. Helmets are permitted. Rules will be enforced, excluding dress-down days that will be posted the day of the show. A penalty of $5.00 will be assessed if the rider’s hat hits the ground before crossing the finish line, or if it falls back off the head before crossing the starting line. This fee must be paid before competing in another class. Any contestant damaging the timer or property will be responsible for the repair or replacement. A horse may only be entered once in each class, with the exception of a cosanctioned NBHA show (see ruling for that). Excessive whipping, spurring, or hitting the horse in front of the girth will not be permitted, either in the show ring or outside of the ring! A fee of $7.00 will be collected from MeBRA members for the office/ring crew fund per horse and rider combination per day. Non-members will pay a fee of $17.00 per horse and rider combination per day. No running your horse in or outside of the ring during lunch break. A one minute time limit will be given to enter the ring, with a 30-second warning. A rider who is not ready to go in within the one minute time limit will be disqualified. Riders who are ready, but fail to enter the ring because their horse is uncooperative will be given a second chance at the end of the class. -3- www.mainebarrelracing.com A rider who breaks the timer before the ring is ready will be disqualified. A rider who runs out of order will be automatically disqualified. A knocked barrel or pole will count as a no time in all division classes. A knocked barrel or pole in a non-division class results in a 5-second penalty added to the rider’s time. Purses for 3-D classes will be split 50% to the 1st division, 30% to the 2nd division, and 20% to the 3rd division. Payouts will be according to MeBRA 4-D rules (number of entries). Purses for 4-D classes will be split 35% to the 1st division, 30% to the 2nd division, 20% to the 3rd division, and 15% to the 4th division. Payouts for 4-D Barrels and 4-D Poles will be as follows: 11-15 Entries – 2 places in each division (60%-40%) 16-30 Entries – 3 places in each division (50%-30%-20%) 31-60 Entries – 4 places in each division (40%-30%-20%-10%) 61-90 Entries – 5 places in each division (30%-25%-20%-15%-10%) Ties will be handled as follows: instead of a run-off, the two places that would have been decided by a run-off will combine and split the prize money evenly. Any points earned will also be combined and split evenly. THE DECISION OF THE RING MASTER WILL BE FINAL! If the Ring Master should miss something and someone else sees it, please see the Show Manager listed at the top of the class list for that show. Do not interrupt the Ring Master or Show Secretaries. All questions and concerns must be presented to the Show Manager. All classes, except exhibition, are pointed for MeBRA year-end awards. You must attend 50% of the shows and be entered in that specific class in order to qualify for year-end awards. Also, you must have made at least a $30 donation or get $30 in sponsor money in order to qualify for year-end awards (you have 30 days to do this from when you become a member). The Open Pole Bending class is sanctioned by the NATIONAL POLE BENDING ASSOCIATION (you must be a member and pay a $2 fee at each show to run for NPBA points) -4- www.mainebarrelracing.com -5- www.mainebarrelracing.com -6- www.mainebarrelracing.com -7- www.mainebarrelracing.com -8- www.mainebarrelracing.com -9- www.mainebarrelracing.com - 10 - www.mainebarrelracing.com ANDWEMET FARM Brunswick, Maine June 8, 2013 at 10:00 $370 ADDED Managed by Marsha Day & Sharon Higgins Entry booth will close at 9:30 - if you want to add a class, you must do it at least 2 classes before 9:00-9:45 Exhibition Barrels (one run per horse - $5.00 at gate) 9:45 Grand Entry Drag 10:00 SHOW ADDED 1. 3D Single Pole (1 second split between divisions) 2. 3D Barrels 19 and over (1 second split between divisions) 3. 3D Barrels 18 and under (1 second split between divisions) 4. 4D Barrels all ages (½/1/2 seconds off top time) $30.00 $50.00 $50.00 $75.00 BREAK (unless otherwise specified) 5. 3D Poles 19 and over (1 second split between divisions) 6. 3D Poles 18 and under (2 second split between divisions) 7. 4D Poles all ages/NPBA pointed (1 second split) • • $50.00 $50.00 $65.00 Riders must show proof of current coggins and rabies shots for each horse entered.
