Säfsen Resort offers adventurous activities as well as enjoyable outings for the
family.
In summer, the woods are our arena for everything from fishing, mountain
biking, downhill and BMX biking to hiking, canoeing, climbing and all sorts of
expeditions.
You’re the one who sets the limits. Säfsen is also the perfect place for simply relaxing. This brochure presents all kinds of activities along with the opening hours
for our reception, restaurants and shops.

HANDLAR´N IN SÄFSEN
Lilla Handelsboden is now a Handlar’n shop. This means that guests at Säfsen Resort get
access to a much wider range of products. Handlar’n in Säfsen is situated in the heart of
the holiday village and has generous opening hours.

Björnen sportshop is located just outside Hyttan. You can hire everything you need here bikes, fishing gear, rucksacks, thermoses etc. You can also pick up life jackets here when you
rent a canoe or boat. We sell equipment, clothing, fishing permits, and maps for fishing, MTB

RECREATION IN SÄFSEN
Fishing, Hiking & Mountain Bike
Säfsen is a paradise for nature-oriented activities.
In Finnmark countryside around the corner, we offer a lovely season,
and a variety of activities such as fishing, hiking and mountain biking.
Do not forget to take a break during the tour, enjoy the fresh air,
beautiful scenery and unspoiled wilderness.
FISHING With a mirror finish and the fog that slowly rises and
silence is palpable, fish plays beneath the surface. In Säfsen there are 175
lakes, ponds and streams, which offers great opportunities for fishing year
round, for both experienced anglers and beginners. On the hook, you can
get rainbow trout, char and pike.
HIKING There are 320 km hiking trails in the area and certainly
something to suit everyone’s personal level. We can help with maps and
tips on fine rest areas and tourist attractions. During high season we offer
guided walking tours.
MTB Around Säfsen is 400 km mountain bike trails of varying difficulty.
This means that everyone can enjoy cycling here in any form and
prior knowledge. Björnen Sports Shop has great bikes of all sizes to
rent. The season begins in May and continues until October.

Natural know-how for all the family
Where do you find dry wood and how do you deal safely with fire? What animals are you likely
to meet in the forest around Säfsen, and which plants and berries are edible? We learn about the
public right of access and other useful facts. An adventure for the whole family!
Hiking with panoramic views
Navigation and hiking
Join us on a hike through forests and over marshy bogs. The
route either goes over Solberget (7 km), where we take the
lift up (bring along a snack to enjoy at the top), or up to
Österhöjden (5 km) where the view is wonderful. We give
you tips about the best outdoor clothing and what materials
are preferable and you also get simple instructions about how
to use a map and compass. Solberg hike incl. lift pass:
SEK 50. Österhöjd hike: SEK 20. Register in Björnen sport

Vital information or just good to know
wildlife and plants
During this walk you get a good idea of which plants and animals
can be found in the Swedish forests. We learn to recognise the
tracks that the animals leave behind. What can we eat from the
forest’s larder, berries and other plants? We also learn the basics of
how Swedish forestry is managed. Easy 3 km walk. Children to be
accompanied by an adult. Register in Björnen sport shop no later
than the evening before. Price: SEK 20. Meet at Hyttan. Mon &

Skim across Lake Säfssjön
Fire, survival and public
right of access
A great activity for the family. We slip along between the islands
in Lake Säfssjön in our 15-man canoes. Lots of people paddling
together is a wonderful feeling. We take a stop along the way,
make a fire and find out more about the public right of access,
which gives us the freedom to roam the Swedish countryside.
Register in Björnen sport shop no later than the evening before.

Relaxing coffee break on the lake
COFFEE TOUR ON
THE SÄFSEN RAFT
Join a tour on Lake Säfssjön. During the trip we serve coffee and
cake, with soda for the children. The tour takes about one hour.
Price SEK 80, children SEK 50, payable in Björnen sport shop
on registration, no later than the evening before.

Forest king
ELK SAFARI
Lots of wild animals live in the woods around Säfsen! Join us
on our elk safari bus, and track down the king of the forest! We
make a stop for coffee break. Register in Björnen sport shop no

A peaceful adventure
CANOE AND KAYAK
INSTRUCTION
A canoe or kayak allows you access to places you can’t
reach by foot. With the right technique, it’s easy to paddle through the water. Information and tips on technique
on the beach, e.g. how to get in and out, how to keep
a straight course, safety aspects to consider. Register in
Björnen sport shop no later than the evening before.

CLIMBING AND ARCHERY
Here is your chance to try out our climbing wall at Hyttan. Instructors are there to help.
You can also try out archery and blowgunning. No advance registration needed. Price: SEK 100/as much as you can take, or SEK 30/

An exciting activity
WILDERNESS WALK
This hike involves walking in hilly terrain through a fantastic
landscape with wonderful views. Walking boots are essential
as there are no paths to follow. You take your own car to the
starting point. Bring a snack to enjoy during the stop and
don’t forget your camera! Register at Björnen sport shop no

TEST DOWNHILL
We go through the basics of safe downhill biking.
Bring your own bike or hire one from us, and
we’ll set off for the mountainbike park.

CHALLENGE
An exciting activity involving GPS, plenty of
ingenuity and a thrilling final! Everyone can join
in. We divide into teams and the winners, apart
from the honour, get a fine prize! Children to be

FISHING SCHOOL
It’s a great feeling to land your very first fish!

THE MOUNTAIN
BIKE PARK, WHAT A SUCCESS
Downhill is a success in Säfsen.
Velodromes, plateaux, jumps and much more besides.
Our ambition is that everyone should be able to bike downhill,
regardless of experience. We take you up the Solbergsliften lift,
and you get yourself down.
It’s easy to hire bikes and protective gear in Garaget, our new bike
depot and shop in the Säfsen mountainbike park, or you can use
your own.
Lift pass adult SEK 220/day, Youth SEK 175/day.
Single ticket SEK 50.
Free for children under 8 with helmets.

CULTURE IN FINNMARK
IN AND AROUND SÄFSEN
THE FIVE WORKS VILLAGES
Strömsdal, Gravendal, Annefors, Ulriksberg and
Tyfors, located around Säfsen, all date from the
1700s, when ironworks, foundries, trip hammers
and metal workshops were started up. Fredriksberg is now the main village with about 800
inhabitants. Join a walk around the five works
villages. There are paths marked in each one, with
information about the area.
THE ANNEX – FREDRIKSBERG MANOR
In the 18th century building, the Annex, right
beside Fredriksberg manor, there is an exhibition
showing the development of the Säfsen area - from
the inland ice, via forestry Finns and masters of
the works, to the industries of the 1900s and the
establishment of tourism. Here you can find information about the area, maps, ideas for outings,
events and much more. There is also a little café in
the Annex.

Styggenstugan
This was the home of Carl Johan Persson, who
was popularly known as “Styggen” (the Wicked)
on account of his ability to practise sorcery. Visit
the Styggenstugan cottage and witness how nothing seems able to grow around the cottage.

Luossastugan
Since 1944 this cottage has commemorated the
life of Dan Andersson (Swedish poet and author).
It is open to the public in summer and a troubadour usually entertains visitors with songs and
stories by and about Dan Andersson.
Räckhammaren och bakarstugan
In Gravendal there is a reconstruction of a trip
hammer powered by a waterwheel. On certain
days there are guided tours of the trip hammer in
the works setting. Visit the bakehouse in Strömsdal too, where the bread is baked in a wood-fired
oven. You can also visit the ”1848” Smithy and

SÄFSNÄS HERITAGE CENTRE
This comprises a dwelling house, barn, poled shed,
watermill and a museum with interesting old
objects and photographs. Most of the objects are
from the Säfsnäs area. There are several buildings
from the old Finnish settlement.
