Executive Summary
My Small Help was born out of a strong desire to empower children with basic human rights
and the opportunity to carve out a more sustainable future for themselves. The charity was
set up in 2007 by a group of friends based in the UK and Nepal who believe that just as the
ocean starts with a single drop of water, a big difference can be made in a child‟s life if many
people commit to dedicating a little time and effort. In March 2008 My Small Help (MSH)
became a registered NGO in Nepal. Now, MSH is also registered NGO in Peru where
underprivileged and disable children are helped.
My Small Help UK was set up as a trust to support the work carried out in Nepal;
administrative costs are kept to a minimum ensuring that donations are used directly on
projects to help underprivileged children. My Small Help Nepal offers a wealth of local
knowledge and contacts, and works primarily with volunteers who have the real interests of
children close to their heart.
This document is designed to give an overview of the charity‟s achievements and progress
from 2007 to 2011. It will offer insight into activity, and outline the vision, hopes and dreams
for now, and in the future.
Mission Statement
My Small Help has a strong focus education and health of children.
Vision
MSH believes that the best way to alleviate poverty amongst children is through the
provision of sustainable education and training. Many children who currently live in poverty
are unable to go to school at all; this may be because parents can‟t afford to send them, or
because the parents need to send them to work to supplement the basic household income.
MSH believes that extending a helping hand to these youngsters is a joint responsibility; for
life to be in perfect balance those with surplus and sufficiency offer support to those who
lack.
MSH will continue to provide support to orphaned children, street children, and children from
impoverished families who cannot fund school uniforms, stationery, and fees. We hope that
through thinking Big and asking Small we can make a difference to the lives of our brothers
and sisters. We believe that „It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.‟

peace and pledge to initiate an event dedicated to him in the future years.
The entire funds collected were used to support the needy families through selfsustainable projects.
A total of two projects were conducted through the fund:
1) A small grocery and vegetable shop for Anjali’s mother Jamuna
2) Driving skills training for Rasna’s father Govinda
1) A small grocery and vegetable shop for Anjali’s mother Jamuna
Jamuna the mother of two daughters, Anjali and Alisha worked in the carpet
factory for fourteen years for her livelihood. Sheltered in a small hut with the
two daughters with the little prospect of improving their lifestyle through her
current employment, MSH Nepal discussed alternative options with Jamuna.
Jamuna came up with an idea of starting a small grocery and vegetable shop.
To help with the start-up; MSH provided funding for furniture, grocery,
vegetables and the initial six months‟ rent. Anjali and Alisha are sponsored by
MSH for the past five years. Anjali has already finished her SLC (School
Leaving Certificate) examination and now goes to the college. Anjali attend
morning classes and helps her mother to run the shop at daytime. This allows
her mother to take time in the afternoon to weave carpets. Anjali does her
homework and household chores as well as manages the shop. Anjali want to
work as an accountant in the future so she has opted for Commerce faculty.
The self-sustainable project of MSH has brought renewed hope for the family
of Anjali and we would like to continue the project and help them to succeed.

2) Driving skill training for Rasna’s father Govinda
Rasna the girl who is sponsored by MSH Nepal, father Govinda inflicted with
HIV positive, worried about the future of his daughter and wife so he wanted
to work to support his family. Without the good education and professional
skills the family condition was worsening every day so MSH wanted to help
the family through the self-sustainable project by providing him training and
making him independent. Govinda decided to learn driving as his friend‟s has
been working as a driver and will help him secure the job after the training
completes. So, MSH funded for the training and also helped him with the
license fee.
Govinda currently works in the brick kilns and also drives the vehicles. The
self-sustainable project of MSH was successful and MSH wishes to bring
changes in the life of the needy families in the future also.

Winter Cloth Campaign for the Victims of Cold Weather in the Terai region
in Nepal
My Small Help Nepal launched a
campaign named “Winter Clothes
Campaign for the victims of cold
weather in the terai region with an
objective to support the people
suffering from cold weather in
Sindhuli,
Chitwan,
Lumbini,
Rautahat, Sarlahi and Saptari. The
bitterly cold weather caused the
death of more than fifty people due
to the lack of proper clothing and
housing in remote parts of the
Terai region. The tragic news
touched the hearts of the people in the city. My Small Help, Nepal, in co-operation
with Gwarko Development Committee, organized a six-day campaign from 27
December 2011 to 1 January 2012.
Clothes were collected through door-to-door
collections and a small booth was set up in the
Gwarko Chowk where people were able to
drop their clothes. MSH was overwhelmed by
the response of the local people and the
campaign was successful as two-lorries full of
winter clothes was collected in a short interval
of time.

MSH Trustee Lee Forsyth’s Visit to Nepal
In February 2012, My Small Help‟s
trustee Lee Forsyth visited the team in
Nepal to undertake a site review and
to inaugurate the newly built Shree
Mangaladevi Janajagrati School. Mr.
Forsyth was accompanied by his14year old daughter Charlotte Forsyth
who was impressed with the operation
in Nepal and was proud to be involved
in such an event. They brought 110kg
of school materials, clothes and
children‟s toys to distribute.
During their hectic schedule they conducted several useful discussions at the My
Small Help office and several sites across the country. One key aim of the visit was
to tackle the issue of My Small Help‟s self-sustainability and was discussed with the
MSH team. Lee later met with Mr. Bal Krishna of Eco Treks who was keen to help
generate local revenue for MSH‟s projects through treks, volunteer parties and
charitable projects; thereby helping MSH‟s self-sustainability objectives.
Lee and Charlotte also had the pleasure of meeting the children at the Marybert
Orphanage where they distributed gifts of clothes, books, toys, note pads and pens,
as well as three full set of sports equipment and laminated educational cards. The
sports and educational packs were bought from the Christmas donation benevolently
supplied by Alacra. The day was rounded off with a party held by the children and
plenty of singing and dancing. Lee reported that the children there are „an absolute
privilege to work with, polite, courteous, gregarious, and full of life with a huge
appetite for fun and a huge credit to their country!‟

Over the course of the next few days Lee travelled across the country visiting the
children who are sponsored by MSH to check on their progress, distribute gifts and
to assess their future needs. He visited Dhrumthali, Sindupalchok to inaugurate the
newly constructed school building Shree Mangaladevi Janajagrati School. He raised
the entire fund by organizing an event in his country. He was pleased with the
outcome and delighted to see smiles on children‟s face. In the celebrations that
followed he was treated by dancing and singing by Sherpa families in full regalia,
and drumming by the children. After a busy and exhausting visit Lee happily
concluded that the MSH team was extremely professional and committed to the
organization, and was „pleased to report to the sponsors that we have a team to be
proud of!‟

Nabin Balami celebrates his birthday for the first time
Fourteen year old Nabin Balami celebrated his birthday among his friends and family
for the first time by cutting a cake. Nabin and his mother eyes were filled with tears of
happiness. The sponsors also donated the gas stove to the family in the day of
Nabin birthday. His mother was pleased to receive the gift from the donors as the
gas cylinder which was installed five months ago is still running. Now Nabin mother

study again
Sunita a sweet and honest girl was supported

last year her uncle visited the orphanage and

took her to a mother who is disable and wheel-chair bound. MSH Nepal was worried
about her as she was a rape victim so MSH repeatedly tried to locate Sunita until
finally, after one year three months she contacted us via facebook and we went to
meet her.
She is now fifteen years and to our surprise she no longer
attends school. Due to the family‟s lack of income she was
forced to leave her studies and was involved in household
chores. We were deeply saddened by Sunita situation as
she loved to study and wanted to continue her study so
MSH helped in fulfilling her wish. Although the class had
already begun three months before; we pleaded the
schools and finally the school named Baba Batika
Madhyamik Vidyalaya agreed to admit her in grade eight.
We ordered her school dress for tailoring and bought
pens, books and school shoes. We look forward to
continuing her to a new school with renewed hope and for
her brighter future.
