Welcome to The Radar!
The Radar is the new monthly publication of the Crown College Women’s Soccer program. The goal of this piece is to communicate valuable
information with you, our stakeholders, and to keep you up-to-date with
the program and where it is heading.
The Crown Women’s Soccer program was established in 1999, and for
the past eight seasons the Crown soccer group has worked hard to gain
respect in the conference and across the nation. Whether you are an
alum, a former coach, a fan, a member of our parent group, or a soccer
prospect, your sacrifices and support have contributed greatly to lay
the foundation for future success. I hope that you feel connected to our
program and its mission, which is to “foster excellence and leadership
on and off the field.”
Because of our institution, our athletic department, our quality team
members and our stakeholders, I believe that we all have an outstanding opportunity to be a part of something special here at Crown! There
are many exciting things happening in the coming months. I invite you
to read on, take an interest in the lives of our amazing student athletes,
and grab your share of the program by getting involved. n

Storm Soccer Goes Global
On March 21, 2008, nine members from the Crown College Women’s
Soccer Team left the U.S. for a ten day missions trip to Costa Rica. This
was the first international missions trip in the history of the women’s
soccer program, and hopefully the first of many.
While in Costa Rica, the team stayed in the capital city of San Jose.
Throughout the trip, the team was able to play soccer against four Costa
Rican opponents. The first opponent was Allejela, a club that represented one of the largest cities in the country. After the game, a local
missionary presented the gospel in Spanish as both teams huddled together in the club’s gymnasium. The next match was played against the
Costa Rican Under-17 National Team at the newly constructed National
Team Facility, which features one of the country’s only turf fields and a
fantastic view of the surrounding area! It was quite an honor for the girls
to play against such an outstanding opponent. The Crown team also
played a local college team, then rounded out the week by traveling 90
minutes into the mountains to play a newly formed women’s club in a
growing village. The opposing team and their fans were extremely honored to have the Crown team there and were very open to the gospel.
Afterward, many of the Crown players gave away their uniforms to very
grateful opponents.
The team was also active in various ministries throughout the week,
including trash clean-up, tract distribution, and two visits to a large
orphanage, which was the highlight of the trip for many of the players.
The team also had the opportunity to ride a zip-line through the mountains and visit the beach.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country. Thank you to all of those who helped
support this trip through prayers and giving. The girls who went have
been impacted for life. For more information and pictures from the trip,
you can visit our women’s soccer page at www.stormathletics.com. n
2008 Season Begins
The tenth season in Crown Women’s Soccer history has officially kicked off! Eight new players have joined the program in hopes of helping the
team reach its goal of qualifying for and competing in its first-ever UMAC conference tournament.
Currently, the Storm sit at 1-1 and will open UMAC conference play on September 19 and 20 when they travel north to face Northland College
(Ashland, Wis.) and the 2007 UMAC champions St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.).

Recruiting Philosophy
It is hard to be a sports fan in Minnesota and not notice the
absence of Kevin Garnett, one of the premier players in the
NBA, who was traded to the Boston Celtics before the last NBA
season. Boston General Manager Danny Ainge was praised for
revamping the Celtics (who finished as the NBA’s worst team
in 2007) by acquiring Garnett and nine-time All Star Ray Allen.
But the rest of Ainge’s game plan has been equally important
to the team’s success, and it hasn’t received nearly enough
fanfare. He got rid of any remaining distracting, moody players
and filled a depleted roster with unselfish, high-character guys.
The result was the league’s best regular season record and the
2008 NBA Championship!
Building around high-character, ‘team-before-me’ players seems
to be a trendy blueprint for success in professional sports (think
the New England Patriots or the San Antonio Spurs), but the con-
cept is not new. The Crown College soccer program has always
valued high-quality people, believing that character and chemistry go hand-in-hand and will produce lasting relationships, winning results, and an outstanding collegiate athletic experience.
We are currently looking for high school soccer players who are
passionate about the game and have a desire to be their best.
Bringing in dynamic people with a desire to lead is the best way
to ensure that our soccer program continues on an upward trajectory. If you know of anyone who fits this description, contact
Head Coach Tim Prusha at [email protected] or direct the
prospect to www.stormathletics.edu where they can fill out an
athletic questionnaire. This is a great way for our stakeholders to
get involved and contribute to the growth of the Crown College
Women’s Soccer program. n
