CROSSROADS CHRISTIAN CHURCH | 10800 LINCOLN AVENUE NEWBURGH, IN | JANUARY 2014
We want to welcome all of our new friends in the Light Green Class. We are so
excited to have you join us in Discipleland, and we are praying that you will learn
and grow closer to Jesus each and every day you are with us. We look forward to
getting to know each of you better.
Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone,
but the birth of Jesus still shines bright in our lives each and every day.
CROSSROADS Christian Church

There are some new and exciting things happening here at Crossroads and
we hope you will find these changes to be positive for your family. We
encourage you to find the best service time that works for your family and
make it a priority to be there each and every week. This will also help our
teachers get to know your child a little bit better. Thank you for making
Discipleland an important part of your week.
We are praying for you and your family as we enter into this new year, and
we pray that you make Discipleland a part of your family throughout this
year. We anxiously anticipate how 2014 will change the lives of our kids!

A Glance into January....
Overview: Children love to imagine what Jesus was like as a child. They may
wonder if Jesus really understands their feelings. Did he ever skin his knee? Was
Jesus afraid at night? What was his favorite bedtime story? Did he have to eat
broccoli, too? Although we may not be able to answer these questions, we can
assure children that Jesus was a child and that he experienced the same things most
children experience - runny noses, teasing, temptations, and anxious parents. Yet
he always chose to do what was right. This month we hope to help kids see that
they can choose to do the right things too.

Food: Hostess Sno Balls
January
God offers all of us a
fresh start through Jesus!
Home -Made Jello FingerFinger -Painting
Fun: HomeSupplies Needed: Flavored Jello (different colors)
Boiling Water
Glossy Paper (for best results)
Mix Jello into boiling water until it is a “goo” consistency for finger-paint.
Finger-paint pictures of things you are looking forward to doing in the new
year. For added fun, don’t tell each other what you are painting and have
each other guess.
After you are done painting, ask the following questions:
• How would you feel if you couldn’t wash your hands?
• How are our dirty hands like our sins – the bad things we do and say?
• How is God’s forgiveness like washing all the mess from our hands?
(go to hp://bakingbites.com/2008/08/homemade-sno-ball-cupcakes/ for recipe)
Read Psalm 51:651:6 - 8 before you pass out a treat to everyone. Then have everyone open their package and cut open
their Sno Ball. Before you begin eating, describe what the Sno Balls look like on the inside and the outside.
Ask the following questions:
• How can these cupcakes remind us of God’s forgiveness?
• What can the dark inside remind us of?
• What does the white outside remind us of?
• What does the sweet taste of these treats remind of us?

It’s about that time for some more change in our Children’s Ministry. Our Nursery
and Preschool departments will be converting to electronic check-in during the
month of February and we have a few things we would like to do to help make it a
smooth transition for everyone. Within this newsletter you should find a small
information card and you should also receive one in your child’s tag in the next few
weeks. This card is requesting updated information on all family members. We are
asking for this because all electronic check-ins run off phone numbers and we want
to make sure our records are accurate. Please take a few minutes and fill this card
out and return it to Discipleland so we can confirm everything is correct. Thank You!
Read Luke 23:3223:32 - 43 as a family. This might mean an adult reads the verses or you split the reading up among your family
members. I would recommend reading from a New Living Translation since it is much easier for kids to understand. You may
want to tell your kids that you will be asking some questions after the reading to see who was paying attention.
Ask the following questions:
• Why were the two criminals nailed to crosses?
• What did Jesus ask God the Father to do while the soldiers were crucifying him?
• What was written on the sign that was attached to Jesus’ cross?
• Which people were mocking Jesus? How were they doing this?
• One of the criminals did not mock Jesus. What did he sincerely ask Jesus?
• Why was this criminal’s question important? What does it tell us about the criminal?
• How did Jesus respond to the criminal?
• Why did the criminal experience paradise in heaven after committing so many crimes while on earth?
Read Romans 6:23 as a way of focusing the discussion on your family.
Ask the following questions:
• What do all of us deserve for sinning against God?
• How are all of us like the criminal on the cross?
• What is the free gift offered to all of us by God?
• How can we receive this free gift in the same way the criminal on the cross did?
