In 2003, two granite processing plants each with a history of more than 20 years in the dimensional stone business, were acquired and marketing in North America began immediately. The present company, styled as Alliance Minerals North America LLC, was formed in 2007 to focus marketing and sales resources and establish warehouses within the continental US. Our sales team consists of persons with 15 or more years experience in the dimensional stone business. Our warehouse for “just in time” local inventory distribution is located in Iowa, on the crossroads of I-35 and I-80. This enables Alliance Minerals to deliver in a cost-effective, timely manner. Stone Descriptions GRANITE: An igneous stone formed from the cooling and crystallization of molten magma far below the earth’s SURFACE 'RANITE IS CHARACTERIZED BY INTERLOCKING silicate mineral crystals which form over thousands ANDEVENMILLIONSOFYEARS'RANITEISTHEHARDESTOF the dimensional stones and exhibits an extremely HIGHCOMPRESSIVESTRENGTH'RANITECANMAINTAINA high polish for a very long time and resists a wide range of chemicals. Marble is composed primarily of calcium carbonate/calcite minerals. They can range from very fine grained to coarsely granular and can be found in every color imaginable. Marbles are relatively softer than granites and may exhibit sensitivity to acidic liquids and some household cleaners. They are extremely resistant to chemical weathering and are ideally suited for exterior or interior applications. Stone Descriptions LIMESTONE: A sedimentary stone made up of calcium carbonate/calcite minerals. It is formed on the ocean floor when marine organisms extract calcium carbonate from sea water and from corals, shells and skeletons. As these structures accumulate on the ocean floor they become consolidated to form limestone. This is why we often find evidence of shells and fossils in limestone. Limestone is widely used in commercial and residential applications. It is therefore, made up of silicate minerals and is resistant to a wide range of chemicals. It exhibits a very wide range of colors and lends a rustic or contemporary design depending on the application. As these solutions drop from the cave roof they form structures, such as stalactites and stalagmites, which exhibit “growth rings” seen in the translucent onyx. Onyx has an elegant look and can be found in a spectacular array of colors. Onyx can be “back lit” in windows, vanity tops and cabinet fronts for a dramatic look. Onyx Uses: Alternative to glass used IN WINDOWS #OUNTERTOPS 4ILE "ATHROOM Finishes and Table Tops. (see climate restrictions)** **CLIMATE RESTRICTIONS: Natural Stone can be used in exterior projects, and in a variety OF APPLICATIONS (OWEVER CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN IN climates which have very high humidity and “freeze/ thaw” conditions. In cold climates where moistures can penetrate stone and freeze, it will then expand and slowly erode or crack the stone. More permeable stone should be carefully sealed and moisture prevented from penetrating the stone. It is always best to use a stone that has very low permeability in these environments. Look and Feel of Finishes POLISHED: A smooth high-gloss finish, attained by machinery processing the stone surface through a series of buffing techniques. HONED: A finish with a look of satin, attained by machinery processing the stone surface through a series of buffing techniques. A honed surface provides a flat, matte or satin finish creating a more informal and softer look. This finish is created by stopping short of the last stage of polishing. A honed finish shows fewer scratches, and requires very little maintenance. LEATHER: Leather finish begins with a honed surface worked with diamond brushes; the process brings back the color and closes pores, making the stone denser. Leathering has a nice sheen and is less porous than a honed finish. BRUSHED/ANTIQUED: A finish with the look of satin, and a feel of undulation to the touch. A brushed finish features a worn-down look achieved by machinery brushing the surface of the stone, simulating natural wear over time. Stone Descriptions SANDBLAST: Sandblasting is a finish created by very high pressure air and sand, directed at the face of the stone to create a textured surface. Sandblasting lightens the color of the stone significantly to provide contrast against a polished finish, providing excellent slip resistance. The mixture of polished and sandblasting gives any project a contrasting look, without changing stone colors. FLAMED: A finish that is rougher to the touch with a feel of granularity. A flamed finish is achieved by heating the surface of the stone to extreme temperatures, followed by rapid cooling. The stones surface will pop and chip leaving a rough, unrefined texture. This process is usually done with granite material. Flamed granite has a highly textured surface, making it ideal for areas where slip resistance might be a concern, like shower areas, exterior/interior walkways, and stairs. NATURAL CLEFT: Slate is created as layer upon layer of silt particles are deposited on a lake bottom, creating a layered structure referred to as “clefted”. This “clefting” gives a three dimensional texture to the slate and its durability depends on the degree of metamorphosis (heat and pressure) it is exposed to. The denser and harder the slate, the less prone it is to “spalling” or flaking of the surface material. NATURAL STONE EXTRACTION: If a natural look is needed in block format, Alliance Minerals can maintain the natural look of the extracted block without finishing any of the stone. For example a stone bathtub may need polishing for the bathing area, but the exterior portion of the vessel can maintain its natural look. Custom finishes are available. ALLIANCE MINERALS NATURAL STONE DISCLAIMER Each piece of quarried stone is a “one of a kind” unique creation of nature and is naturally characterized by an infinite variety of color, crystal structure, fissures and pits. Alliance Minerals attempts to maximize the beauty, consistency and QUALITYOFEACHQUARRIEDSTONE(OWEVEROVERTHEFUNCTIONAL life of a stone some fissures may develop into cracks, regardless of daily uses and care and due to factors we cannot control.
