BIO
Chato! (Esteban Montaño Lara) is a global beats Dj, music producer, talent agent and multifaceted
artist born in San Juan, Puerto Rico from Mexican parents, and residing in Miami, Florida for over 17
years. He founded the entertainment company M3XHUB, as well as co-founding the latin inspired
apparel venture Surropa.com and is part of the Calentura Global Bass Collective.
Chato! is currently working on a documentary series about the “Global Bass” movement, which
started filming over 2 years ago in Puerto Rico. Also, working on upcoming releases with Dj Happy
Colors (Mad Decent) and Latin Grammy® Nominated Dj Blass (Sony), as well as a music video he
directed for Latin Grammy® Nominated producer Mr. Pauer and Puerto Rico’s first Cumbia group Los
Chinchillos del Caribe for their upcoming Cumbia infused single “Tu Mujel Me Mira”.
Since childhood, Chato! developed an interest in art, music and the cultural diversity of his
surroundings. After studying architecture in Florida, Chato! moved to New York, where he attended
Scratch DJ Academy (Founded by Jam Master J of the iconic Hip Hop group RUN DMC), where he
first garnered attention as a DJ.
He is considered to be an influencer and strong advocate of the Global Bass underground party
scene in Miami, and has worked with companies such as mun2, NBC/Telemundo, Univision and
Premios Juventud, to name a few. Also, collaborated with former boxing champion Héctor “Macho”
Camacho, Mexican Actor Pablo Azar, Pop Duo Domino Saints (Universal Música), Dutch Producer
Munchi (T&A/Mad Decent/Selegna Records), Julca Brothers (Universal), Urban Recording Artist Ñejo
and Cuban Adult Film Star Angelina Castro, who he worked with on a safe sex awareness campaign
that was mentioned on FX Network and CNN with their trademarked phrase “Once You Go Hispanic
Don’t Panic”™.
In 2011, Chato! attracted the attention of legendary Salsa label Fania Records, that, as part of their
50th Anniversary, seeked to renew their brand image in an attempt to attract younger consumers.
Chato! collaborated in many aspects of the creative direction, re-design of their website, production of
official merchandise, as well as bringing young talented DJs to re-mix their classic catalog. Since then,
Fania Records has recognize Global Bass as a genre and included Moombahton and EDM into their
catalog.
His music has been featured in important global beats blogs such as GenerationBass.com (England),
Global Ghetto (England) and Bass People (France), as well as been part of Remezcla.com and
Mike’s Harder Lemonade #CulturaDura’s showcase of the new sounds of Latin Electronica. Inspired
by various indigenous cultures and world sounds, Chato!’s eclectic DJ performances are ritualistic,
energetic and untethered by geography. From Angolan Kuduro to Dutch inspired Moombahton,
Old-School Salsa to soulful South African House, you will be enveloped by the low-end heavy sounds
