This year our Dave Lamb 7-mile handicapped race will be host to
an Olympic day celebration. We will be one of the 1,816 events that will host
this special celebration.
Olympic day is celebrated on June 23, but we will celebrate on Sunday June
26. Olympic day has been recognized each year since 1948 to commemorate
the birth of the modern day Olympic game’s on June 23, 1894. Olympic Day’s mission is to
promote fitness well-being culture and education, while promoting The Olympic valuesexcellence, friendship and respect- and the three Olympic day pillars- Move, learn and discover.
Everything else about the Dave Lamb Race is the same. It’s a 7 mile race. Everyone has a time
handicap. Minutes or seconds are subtracted from

Introductory Biography
Dear Fellow Roadrunners,
This is my first year with you and I am very inspired and having a good time. I was born on
November 2nd, 1956 in Pomona, CA., so I am a local resident all my life except during my
military service to the USMC from 1974 to 1978. I make my living as a full time Uber driver and
I love my job! I began running again on my birthday last year with the idea that I would train
and run in my first marathon in 2016. So far this year here are my race results: Knott’s Berry
Farm Coaster Run 5K, 27:08 (8:45 pace). Dockweiler State Beach 10k, 58:13 (9:24 pace), and
Orange county Half Marathon, 2:25:35 (11:07 pace). As you can see the longer the race, the
slower I get, LOL! However, I am proud of my times, this is my Rookie Year with SCCR. I am
signed up to run the Santa Clarita Marathon on November 6th just 4 days after my 60th birthday!
I am very excited. I am hoping to bring it home in about 11 minute pace which would get me
there around 4:48:** but for my first marathon what is important is finishing at whatever time I
make it.
I am so inspired by the story of Mark Huang. Could I one day qualify and run in the Boston
Marathon? That is a pretty mind blowing goal at this point. I would sure have to drop a lot of
bodyweight to have a chance at that goal. I am El Gato Gordo for a marathoner. Mainly I am
just competing against myself and want to do the best I can. It will all rest on how ambitious
and determined I become.
I am also really inspired by all the lady roadrunners! (Alas, they are all married or I am too old.
(tears) Ha! I have given myself the nickname of “El Conejo Loco” because I like to make people
smile and laugh. I think at first some people thought this was weird. I think Irma said, “You are
not a Conejo!” ;) Oh well. Of course, if I were to be a Conejo Loco, I would be a slow one. ROFL
Ray Sollars,
“El Conejo Loco”

Our May special event, the Cinco de Mayo run was a huge success. We had a
large turnout and all had a lot of fun. The course was shortened to about 400
meters, which meant shorter course and more laps. Thus more laps meant more
pieces of burrito to eat. EAT and GO! If you couldn’t eat anymore, you were out.
The winners received a gift card to a Mexican restaurant for more burritos. The
winners were: 1st place for boys, Anthony Cisneros, 2nd- Jonathan Cisneros, 3rdOscar Muro. For the girls: 1st- Jimena Muro, 2nd-Alondra Muro, 3rd-Dynasty

Hello All,
It’s that time again, the 33rd Annual Albert Rivera Menudo Run. Let me begin by
thanking our Running Group, Roadrunners of Walnut, for always supporting the
Menudo Run. Please accept this invitation to participate in this year’s Annual
Menudo Run. The National Latino Peace Officers Association, San Gabriel Valley
Chapter, 33rd Albert Rivera Menudo Run, 5k/10k/Fun Run and a Kiddie Run is
scheduled for August 27, 2016. We also have a category for running groups and
law enforcement teams for the 5k (team of max 5 with best 4 times). A trophy will
be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. Medals will be awarded 3 deep and
to all kids participating in the kiddie run. The pre-registration for the 5k/10k/ cost
is $30.00 by August 10th and $35.00 after August 10th and $15.00 for the kiddie
run. Groups of 10 or more can register for $25.00 each by the 10th of August.
Each runner will receive a t-shirt, bag of goodies, bowl of menudo and beverage,
until supplies last.
On a side note, I hear Lazy Dogs will be serving samples again and the goodies for
the runners bags are coming in!
This is my 7th year as the chairwoman of the race in memory of my brother Al
Rivera, who was a big supporter of giving back to the community and helping
others to have a better life. Each year we strive to improve the race. This is
possible by always asking experienced Roadrunners, on what you liked and also
the areas of improvement.
The NLPOA is a non-profit organization with members from various law
enforcement agencies and civilian members. Proceeds for the race are used to
support various community activities for youth. On June 4, 2016, we will be
awarding $8500.00 in scholarships to local youth enrolling in their first year of
college. Some of our other successful events were the donation of toys to the
YWCA of Covina; providing funds to purchase food and toys to a Mission in La
Mordita, Tijuana, Mexico; giving over 30 car seats to needy families; hosting a
candy bar for a special needs prom; and, hosting a Public Safety Expo for youth
interested in a career in law enforcement, to name a few.
