The 'strung out' community violin group practice their new symphony about
Walthamstow
A new symphony inspired by living and working in Walthamstow will be
performed by a local violin group at the Stow Festival.
‘Strung Out’ is a community violin group created by composer, Alison
Jones, for violin players of all levels.
Earlier this year the group, who rehearse at The Quaker Meeting House
in Jewel Road, received funding from the BBC and the Arts Council to
create a symphony inspired by living in east London.
The players recorded sounds, images and words about their lives in
Walthamstow for the piece.
Ms Jones, 50, of Byron

The finished symphony will be performed in four movements,
incorporating violins, ukuleles, banjos and voices, with the Walthamstow
Acoustic Massive (WAM).
More than 50 singers and players will perform the new symphony at the
Stow Festival on September 7 at 1pm in the Town Square, Walthamstow,
which is free to attend.
