PTA Meeting Notes
Secretary’s Report
o November 20th Meeting summarized. Motion to
approve made and seconded. Approved.
Teacher’s Report
o Kathy Tronvig – Review of current tumbling activities
and goal setting the kids are doing. She and Dr. SabloSutton are on the Wellness Committee (7 teachers on
committee in all). This is part of the Carol White
Grant for nutrition and healthy foods at school. The
committee is currently working on two goals: (1) PTA
bulletins to post ideas for healthy lunches and snacks,
(2) Brain breaks – activities in classroom to give kids a
boost when they are lacking energy. Suggestions
provided for teachers (cards, dice…)
Principal’s Report
o Testing season: Reading assessments will be underway
next week. Upper grades are testing for math as well.
o In February, the practice SBAC will take place.
o Cindy’s Garden dedication took place last night; there
was a great turn out.
o Thank you to Maria for running the E-waste fundraiser.
o The cow assembly this week was a huge hit.
o GATE testing coming up in February.
Fundraising
o School-a Fundraiser – Clothing may be donated and/or
purchased online.
o Pennies for Patients – Coming Feb 6th to your
classroom. A pizza party will be awarded to the class
that raises the most money. As the fundraising
increases, additional incentives are offered. Donations
go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
o A’s Fundraiser is coming the end of February.
o Reusable Bags fundraiser coming in March.
Treasurer’s Report
o We are on track for this time of year.
Outdoor Education
o The projected shortfall for Pigeon Point alone was
$7,000. An additional$3,000 is needed for the Marine
Science boat outing. A letter was sent out to parents
regarding the shortfall that brought in approximately
$4,000. 5th graders will have an hour of in-class
programming on Feb 4. We have a Parent Ed night
on February 5.
o We also got the opportunity to host a Parent-Child
Workshop on Saturday, March 7. We need at least
25 people (adults and children combined) to attend this
one for it to happen. Please RSVP
to [email protected] to get on the list. It's
filling up!
o There is also a Mother’s Tahoe getaway coming up that
has a potential of raising $500-$1,000. A bake sale is
also planned to take place at the White Elephant Sale
that will benefit OE. The shortfall this year is
attributed to a change in the tracking of funds, the fact
that there are 30 additional students in the 5th grade
this year, and parental awareness of the need for
donations. Going forward the communication to
parents re the need for contributions for OE should
come from the teachers and not only the PTA. Ms.
Lipka expressed a desire to help getting the
communication out to parents re the need for
contributions towards OE.
o A suggestion was also made to have the Walk A Thon
be a school-wide event. Other suggestions: Direct
donations as an auction item, Sign-ups for Walk A Thon
sponsors at the fall festival.
Auction Report
o This year the auction will be on Saturday, May 9th. The
theme will be Island Paradise. Volunteer Opportunities
Available!! For more information contact:
