J Bar E Ranch is a family-owned purebred and commercial Hereford cattle ranch west of Plentywood, Montana. Jon Eggen, started the ranch in 1898. Joe Eggen, bought his first registered Hereford cows in 1953. They raised good framed, sound cattle with good feet and udders. Bulls we are currently using are sons of Rancher 592R, UPS Domino 3027, 133Y Brother of Churchill Sensation 028X, and Anchor 14Z heads up our Polled Hereford Division. Over the last fifty-seven years Thomas Herefords has been developing superior land management and livestock production. Focusing our efforts on raising low maintenance high return females and sound proven herd sires, our program excels in producing highly functional cattle that can naturally thrive in Montana’s extreme conditions as well as rise to the top in the show ring. We take a holistic approach to ranching, setting high standards for EPD’s, Phenotype, Disposition, Fertility, Maternal Traits, Calving Ease, Efficiency and Carcass Merit. In recent years; we have been blessed to have raised National Western Stock Show Champion Bulls. We are nestled in the Western Montana Flint Creek Mountain Range. 406-544-1536 www.thomasherefords.com Diemert Ranch was homesteaded in 1909 by Ike and Anna Diemert in Toole and Liberty County and headquartered at Lothair, MT. Cattle and small grains have always been the tradition and way of life - all dry land farming/ranching. Clark imported the very first registered Hereford cattle from Canada and the McIntyre Ranch (the old MCR prefix) in 1945 and there have been registered Hereford cattle gracing the pastures ever since. Currently, the herd consists of around 325 mother cows with 15 to 20 bulls sold privately every year. The predominant bloodlines are Britishers. The mainstay sire right now would be Genetic 137Y Lad 0827. He is half owned by Greenore Herefords in Saskatchewan and naturally breeds at both places. 406.432.3412 [email protected] Sparks Herefords was started by Frank and Goldie Sparks with the purchase of a Line One Hereford bull in 1949. Throughout the next few decades, registered cows, Tarrington line-bred cattle, along with other imported English-bred cows were added to the herd. Recently, an English bull, Atok Socrates, has been used through A.I. Emphasis has always been on selecting cattle to fit the environment and Dr. Jan Bonsma’s principles are used to assist with selection criteria. Sparks Herefords is a cow/calf and yearling operation with registered and commercial cattle. The ranch celebrated 100 years in 2009 and is operated by Tom and Carol Sparks and their family. M/D Herefords of Baker, MT is a family owned and operated Registered and Commercial Hereford operation in Baker, MT. The herd was established in 2001 and has grown to include select polled cattle in addition to the Horned foundation animals. We are excited to be displaying both heifers and bulls this year. Heifers will be on display at Sparks’ West of Baker on Friday and coming two-year old bulls will be on display in Miles City on Saturday. Fort Keogh Line 1 Hereford cattle are offered to the public as a spin-off of the research program. The line, since 1934, has been closed to the addition of outside germplasm. The rate of genetic improvement for growth has not declined in 80 years. The herd is managed in commercial conditions similar to those found in Eastern Montana. Fort Keogh has a bull sale in March and a female sale in November. All are welcome to visit Fort Keogh to talk with our scientists, ranch manager, and cowboys. The focus here is on problem free, registered Horned Herefords that will perform here and for our commercial customers. We sell around 10-12 bulls annually out of 65 registered cows. Heifer calves are also available after weaning in Oct. We have been AI-ing to older proven bulls or their sons the last few years with great results. We like using bulls with lots of progeny and daughters that can last in the herd. Most of the AI and natural sires today have a high percent of Canadian Horned Hereford blood. Sale bulls are offered by private treaty starting in Nov. and delivered in April. Visitors welcome anytime. 406-350-3123 [email protected] Brillhart Ranch Company has been raising Hereford cattle since 1957.
