03 FLUGHAFEN TEMPELHOF Berlin’s new Creative Campus © Tempelhof Projekt GmbH, implementation: mc-quadrat, right picture: Günter Wicker LOCATION DEVELOPMENT ACCESSIBILITY The airport building in Tempelhof is a unique structure with a multi-faceted past. After the shutdown in 2008, the listed airport is being successfully used as a venue for tradeshows, exhibitions, conventions, events, design and music festivals as well as sports events. The airport building is the ideal presentation location in the German capital. One important step for the revitalization of the airport building is the refurbishment of the former officers’ hotel of the U.S. Air Force at the Platz der Luftbrücke. Creative workplaces of the future will be located here. In combination with restaurants, cafes and a visitor center for the increasing number of tourists, the airport building will again become a lively urban place in Berlin. The location has ideal access to the public transportation system. The subway stations Platz der Luftbrücke and Paradestraße (U6) as well as the commuter train station Tempelhof are within walking distance to the former airport area. Car drivers need three minutes to get to the freeway A 100, the Berlin City Ring. The future airport Berlin-Brandenburg is 20 minutes’ drive away, the exhibition grounds 10 minutes. The next station serving ICE and regional trains is 5 minutes away. Former office and administration blocks are being gradually refurbished and rented out. The historic facilities are mostly reserved for companies in creative industries and education. The airport building is immediately adjacent to the popular neighborhood Bergmannkiez in the borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg as well as the Platz der Luftbrücke in Tempelhof-Schöneberg. The Potsdamer Platz is just as easy to reach as the Kurfürstendamm. [email protected] For refurbishment and use, the Tempelhof Projekt GmbH is looking for a private investor who would autonomously assume the arrangement and the operation of this part of the building. Currently, there is an ongoing declaration of interest procedure. For more information, please refer to www.thf-berlin.de.
