Year 4 Marchants Hill Residential Year 4 children had a fantastic time on their recent residential trip to
Marchants Hill in Hindhead. Across the course of two days, the children all
participated in a variety of exciting and new experiences such as aeroball,
orienteering, trapeze, survival, zip wire, rock climbing and even a giant
swing! It was lovely to see the children flourish in different activities than
those that are usually seen at school. “ On Monday 22nd February, we had to
get up bright and early to get to school on time. After kiss and cuddles from
parents, we left school. On the first day we did rock climbing, survival,
aeroball and the giant swing. I will always remember the giant swing because it was really massive and I went to the top” Hannah Whitehouse, 4M.
“On the second day, we were up early and had a breakfast of bacon, eggs,
hash browns and toast. The food was yummy. We then did many more
activities on the second day such as the zip wire, orienteering and the
trapeze. Even though it was a bit cold, we all had so much fun doing the
activities outside. The best bit of the trip was definitely the giant swing! We
were all very tired when we got home, but we all had a great time” Oliver
Hagon and Reece Badger, 4V
Year 5 Easter Experience
On Tuesday 8th March, the Spinnaker Trust
came to Danetree to share their Easter
Experience Workshop with our Year 5
children. Several decorative stations were
set up in the hall and the Easter story was
shared to the children by visiting each of
the stations. The children thoroughly
enjoyed the amazing Easter Experience
Workshop. A big thank you to the Spinnaker
Trust who organised and set up this
wonderful opportunity for the children.

World Book Day
We truly celebrated World Book Day! Many students came dressed as their favourite book character and others
were creative and imaginative in their costumes! Characters ranged from Albus Dumbledore to Captain Jack to
Oliver Twist. The staff joined together to celebrate J.K. Rowling's series of Harry Potter and dress as different
characters from Hogwarts. The whole day was a celebration. This included year groups reading with each other, a
parade to showcase our costumes and different activities focusing on reading. An Extreme Reading competition
was started to encourage students and staff to read in the most unlikely place. Soon, prizes will be given to
praise the most innovative reading place and costume! A truly special day was had by all! Miss Libby, Year 5
Fire Station Trip
As part of the school enrichment
programme Mrs Tribe and Mrs
Ransom took a group of children to
Wimbledon Fire Station. The
children were able to dress in full
uniform, had a tour of the station,
found out what happens on a ‘shout’ and the
importance of smoke alarms. After this the children
went outside into the yard, sat inside the fire engine
and were shown all the different equipment the
firemen might need to use. They also saw a car that
had been cut up so that the firemen could practise
getting someone out of a crash situation. Finally the
children learnt about fire hydrants and were shown
how to use the hoses. Everyone had a turn of
spraying the water at the rescue tower.
Celebration of Learning Afternoon
It was fantastic to see so many parents, grand
parents and carers attend the Celebration of
Learning open afternoon last Friday. We hope
everyone enjoyed seeing the creative learning
environments and topic work the children have
been working so hard on this term. Thank you for
continued your support.
Basketball Competition Success!
On Friday 4th March, our Year 4
Basketball Teams visited Glyn School
to take part in the GLF Basketball
Competition. After some competitive
games and excellent shooting, both
our teams made it into the final! In
a close match Danetree 'Miami Heat' beat Danetree
'Indiana Pacers'. A huge thank you to all the parents who
attended and cheered on their teams from the
balcony! We are already looking forward to the next
event at the start of the Summer Term! Rob Hopkins,
Assistant Headteacher
Sky Sports Studio Visit
On Monday 29th February,
a lucky group of Year 5 and
Year 6 children had the
opportunity to visit Sky
Skills Studios in
London. The children were
shown around the filming studios and were also given the
chance to make their own Sky Sports News report which
focussed on the importance of participating in sport from
a young age. Keep an eye out on our school website for
the video our children recorded live!
