Exclusive Furniture by Barn in the City `A second life for Barn wood`
Exclusive Furniture by Barn in the City ‘A second life for Barn wood’ Canadian Barn built in 1854 Barn in the City – a rare creation from the fusion of vintage with the contemporary … The historical 19th century dairy barns that stretched across the plains of Canada, 100 – 150 years ago, are being restored & preserved as a vital piece of Canadian History. Sections of these barns cannot always be incorporated into this restoration process, such as the barn sidings, and are carefully reclaimed & prepared by Barn in the City in Amsterdam and reformed into contemporary furniture designs and wall cladding. The results are both strikingly unique in form and functionally beyond compare. An important piece of history not only being preserved forever but also finding a second and new usage, being brought back to life. The forces of Nature- the freezing Canadian winters & scorching summer sun – have created a silver-grey to dark grey taupe patina, a color and luster impossible to re-create. And combined with the natural open & closed knots, and the character created by the forces of man – centuries old nails and nail holes, cracks along the grain – the result is that no two pieces of Barn wood and so no two custom made pieces of Barn in the City furniture & wall cladding, are the same – each are unique to you. C O M The recovery of the reclaimed barn wood is a time consuming and intensive enterprise. Barn in the City prides itself in having built up an extensive and exclusive network with local Canadian farmers and families for many years, ensuring Barn in the City receives only the best selections and finest quality of the original barn wood. A 100 years of History in custom made furniture The years before Barn in the City, the owners Nancy Torreele and Martijn van Rijn have established their names in the international interior business. Nancy with her own interior design studio ‘Pure Taste in Interior Design’. Martijn as a high end Wood and Furniture Consultant. With their experience and their keen eye for detail they have transformed Barn wood into a exclusive, unique furniture line named ‘Barn in the City’. The collection consists of tables, consoles, room dividers, planters, mirrors, cabinets, doors and wall paneling! The Barn wood is combined with other materials such as Stainless steal, Nickel and Bronze for the tables and MDF silk gloss for the cabinets and consoles. Classical or contemporary this furniture will seamlessly adjust, as the Barn wood did in time in all weather conditions. There for retaining its recognizable character with a Barn in the City touch. The founder of Barn in the City, Nancy Torreele: ‘We have fortunately realized some amazing projects world wide, in which we have applied Barn wood. Varying from custom made cabinets to the external decking of whole houses. So the next step was inevitable: our own furniture collection. Barn wood processed into furniture, on walls or even doors can lift an interior to a whole new level. This wood can be combined with any other material, thus creating a balanced contrast. Like nature it adjust to it surroundings. C O M BARN IN THE CITY Exclusive, custom made contemporary furniture & wall cladding crafted from 19th Century reclaimed Canadian Barn wood. These rare listed barns are being restored & preserved in Canada. In the restoration process some sections become available, and these are shipped to Holland, restored and used in the design of stunningly original & rare contemporary furniture and wall cladding. The Dutch design company, ‘Barn In The City’, captures the pure character & natural colors of the barn wood, and its subtle ‘blue-grey-brown’ lustre formed by the bleaching effects of Canada’s scorching summer sun & harsh freezing winters. In a unique & skilled process, craftsmen gradually encase & seal the wood in many fine layers of clear regenerative resin. This resin is skillfully applied over many weeks. The barn wood can also remain in its natural textured form, without the resin, and is coated with a fine invisible liquidrepellent sealant. At this link http://db.tt/CxnIuusV you can download the video of the Iced Grey Barn wood Nicolas Table – which really brings to life the beauty of the table and the glass-like resin, as the camera moves and catches the reflections of the lighting. GREAT FOR YOUR CLIENT PRESENTATIONS. Before the resin is applied different finishes can also be bonded to the barn wood – such as ‘black silver’, copper, bronze, silver-platinum , gold etc. The raw material is rare – and the fact that it is being recycled and is preserving this piece of Canadian history makes it unique. It is anticipated that there is only a supply of the barn wood for the next 10 years. Each piece in the collection is handmade to standard dimensions, OR custom dimensions and designs can be commissioned, such as side tables, dining tables, wall cladding for spas and shower rooms, wall cladding around fireplaces & home cinema systems etc. Product Performance & Price-Point: makes it suitable for ‘high end’ residential, commercial and private yachts.
