We have helped more than two dozen new businesses get started in recent years. • Offering a regular schedule of business education seminars, in partnership with the Door County Visitor Bureau and other organizations, covering topics such as healthcare reform, marketing and business succession. • DCEDC continues to market the Sturgeon Bay Industrial Park to commercial, construction and manufacturing businesses, and provided assistance as the City acquired nearly 25 acres for future park growth. Also helped facilitate the transfer of six SBIP lots in the past few years. Entrepreneurship • Door County Business Development Center is currently home to 18 businesses with 53 fulltime equivalent employees. Since inception, 18 companies have graduated from the business incubator facility, creating 80 jobs in the community. • Sponsored twelve years of local business planning courses, with over 150 alumni to date representing at least 55 new or existing businesses. • Partnership with the UW-GB Small Business Development Center brings a business counselor for monthly visits to Door County, providing free, one-on-one sessions for any new or existing business owners. Business Financial Assistance • DCEDC provides a one-stop local source for assistance on business financing $$ and incentive programs. • During the 22-year history of the local Revolving Loan Fund programs, DCEDC has serviced 76 loans with a value of over $10.944 Million. Those loans leveraged $57 Million in private investment, creating and retaining almost 1100 jobs. Community Development • DCEDC has provided assistance to Sturgeon Bay, Sister Bay, Liberty Grove and Washington Island on municipal redevelopment plans. • DCEDC and Sturgeon Bay are well on the way towards implementation of the Westside Waterfront plan, including a four-seasons market and brewpub. • DCEDC joined regional colleagues to lead the Lakeshore Industry Cluster Initiative, to analyze and leverage assets and opportunities for additional business growth and development in Manufacturing, Food Processing/Agriculture, Energy and Tourism. • DCEDC launched the Door County Buy Local program in 2010, as a grass-roots economic development initiative that seeks to strengthen local businesses, increase employment opportunities and educate the public about the importance of buying locally whenever possible. • Helped lead the creation of the Door County Coastal Byway, which has already brought over $1.5 Million in federal grant dollars back to Door County. • DCEDC worked with DKBEP and NWTC for the creation of the CNC Mobile Manufacturing Lab. • DCEDC Technology Council worked with new and incumbent service providers to bring countywide broadband and telecommunication infrastructure improvements, now reaching a majority of the county with high-speed internet and improved telecommunications services. Legislative Days • DCEDC coordinated event fundraising and planning for delegates traveling to Madison in 2013 for meetings with state agencies and all legislators. Results included successful advocating for statewide investigation into low Lake Michigan water levels and funding for beach water quality improvement. 2013
