Veterans Breakfast
During Catholic Schools’ Week, St. Anthony School is hosting a breakfast to
honor the veterans in our parish and school community. The breakfast will be
held on Tuesday, February 1st at 7:30. If you would like to attend this breakfast
please RSVP to the office no later than January 14th. We are also working on a
Wall of Fame for our veterans, so if you have someone in mind to honor we will
take their names, and/or pictures, to display on our wall at the breakfast. We
thank all veterans for serving our country.
Catholic Schools Week
Our school will join Catholic Schools across the nation to
celebrate our Catholic education during the week of January
30th through February 4th. A committee has been working
hard to provide our students with a variety of activities during
this special week. On February 2nd, we will celebrate our
wonderful Earth with a special program, the Earth Dome,
that will visit our school. We are asking all students in Kindergarten through Grade Eight to complete a Recycle Project; a
project, art piece, game or any creative way of putting a
household item to new use! All projects will be due in school
on January 25th. Each project will be shared within the classroom. A winner from each grade level will be selected by creativity, usefulness and originality on February 2nd. Start now,
encourage your child to RECYCLE, REUSE and RECREATE for Catholic Schools Week! Watch for more news from
your child’s classroom teacher as to suggestions and requirements for the projects. Many thanks for your support.

A Heartwarming Thank You
In November, Mrs. Baldyga called upon our community to contribute to Operation Santa, Christmas Care Package Drive which was
sponsored by the Marine Corp Family Foundation to support Marines deployed in Afghanistan. In response to the overall drive, the following letter was received from a Marine Corps captain who was the recipient of the shipment: “Recently I have received more than 60 +
packages from Craig and Marjorie. I immediately removed the notes/letters from the school children (so I can make a memorial wall in
the Disbo conference room), and sent the boxes to the Marines in the main office. The Marines have broken the boxes up and are now
taking them out to other camps and on WES-Team missions to Marines in the field. We have so much gear here, we will not be able to
use it all... just what we need and pay the rest forward. Our cups “runneth over”. I have even invited my Marines from PRP to come and
get supplies if they need them. I cannot begin to tell you the overwhelming feeling I got knowing that there are great Americans out there
supporting us, their community, the students, and all of the volunteers that assist them in their mission. You are very fortunate to have
them. I can only hope that when it is my turn to step up as a parent for my children, I can reach the bar that people like you have set. (I
will address them in a separate correspondence) I will let the Marines know you are the source of all this love. But I will definitely solicit a
good “thank you” from all the Marines FWD. You know from firsthand experience, the monotony is our biggest enemy. Monotony
breeds complacency; complacency breeds injury and/or death when we are on the road. So it is good to get the “little things” from the
States. It helps us realize that even though it is, it is definitely not all that bad. If you need anything from me or the Marines, don’t hesitate
to give me a buzz. We are forever indebted. If we can help, we will.”

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Hello again Box Tops supporters! SAS recently received our first
check from Box Tops for $652.00! Since Christmas, new collections
make our total $768.00, a little better than half of our ambitious
goal of $1500.00!! We have half the school year left, so we are right
on track! In an exciting trend, more earnings are coming from eshopping on the Box Tops Marketplace, where on-line shopping
through your favorite merchants automatically earns $$ for SAS!
Merchants patronized by SAS families this year include the Apple
Store, Kohls, Justice, and Barnes and Noble. How about that upcoming vacation? Consider booking your Southwest Air or Expedia
fares through the Box Tops Marketplace and effortlessly earn cash
for our school! Now to the classroom and individual totals: First
grade produced 574 BT for November/December for 1st place,
followed by 4th grade with 336 and Kindergarten with 263. Individual top earners were Kylee Bryant with 101, Hailey Lefebvre with
60, and Emily Jaworski with 58. I have a list of all individuals who
submitted BT in the past couple of months and a small Box Tops
prize will be coming their way soon! (Just a note: some parents have
noted that their child's submission has not been acknowledged....please be certain that your individual submissions are clearly
labeled in a sealed envelope, or if using a submission sheet, please
put the child and teacher's name on the bottom. Sometimes when
submissions are brought down to the office they are combined together and then I don't know who has submitted what.) Finally,
students will learn a little about the democratic process by voting
for what our Box Tops earnings should purchase! Teachers will
conduct the voting in individual classrooms and then votes will be
tallied. We'll keep you updated. Thanks for your tremendous support for this great program.......KEEP ON CLIPPING!!

This year, during Catholic Schools Week, one of the ways
our school community is hoping to share our blessings and
abilities is by participating in the St. Jude Math-AThon. Math-A-Thon is a free, education-based program for
grades K-8 that benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. After returning the parent permission form, every child
that participates will receive a Math-A-Thon Funbook. As
the children work on the Funbook, they will ask family and
friends to support them in their efforts. The money that we
raise will be donated to St.Jude's to help in treating children
with cancer and to help the doctors better understand the
disease and hopefully find cures!! Each day, it costs $1.5
million to operate the hospital!! Let's do all that we can to
help St. Jude's help children!! Parent permission forms are
due back to your child's teacher by Monday, January 24.
