And As Time Flies By… Poole Flying Boats Celebration The latest News concerns Salterns Marina Hotel (Lilliput), which has been the subject of a BoP planning applica-on… This has now been passed, so that it looks as though this former BOAC Marine Terminal of the Flying Boats at Poole will be replaced by a significant new hotel redevelopment. The owner - John Smith is a marvellous supporter of PFBC, and as we wish him every success in this exci-ng venture, we trust that every effort will be made to incorporate the great history of this site alive in as many ways as possible ! Voluntary Effort has always been key to the success of PFBC, and that has been especially our Aye Ma’am Project (2013-4). A significant point has now been reached with a substan-al ‘Gathering’ at PFBC’s Office to celebrate the achievements + milestones reached with the two years of support from HLF. Heritage Lo4ery Funding has been so very important to PFBC along with other sponsors, in suppor-ng this ini-a-ve so that we have successfully a4ained various targets which were set. When we reach the second Anniversary. of the Launch held on 7th. February 2013, the numbers of Volunteers who have played a part in this Project will no doubt have well exceeded the current total which stands at a creditable / successful 93 ! Not that this special date will be a finishing line, for the Project will just enter a further phase with more Interviews, Training, writing-up of research / findings, and progressing the Website... So as we celebrate the success of Aye Ma’am, we look to the future for this Project + also for other potential new Initiatives. Harry’s Welcome Speech Ian Andrews (who Represents all of our HLMs) * [A warm welcome to John Wilson who joins the Hon. Vice Presidents: John is a significant contributor to PFBC’s Archive + a good Friend.] The PFBC Initiative - Flights Movements at Poole 1939-48: Due to a wonderful range of Log Books on loan etc. to PFBC it has been possible to make significant progress on records where extracts can be accessed to help with many enquiries which we receive… Whilst this project has been undertaken by Aimėe accessing as many records that have come to light, there is a long way to go to achieve a comprehensive listing. © PFBC SO IF YOU HAVE LOGS OR FLIGHTS INFO. PLEASE CONTACT HER Rowena and Pat Babs with Brian Mary & John Brackley PFBC’s Office Friday 5th. Dec. 2014 Contd. from Col. One As we have encountered certain notable milestones en route, it is now an appropriate -me to reflect on recent a4ainments: The Autumn period culminated in the second in the series of our Oral Recording Training Sessions held at the PFBC Office… Again John Burgess travelled some considerable distance to be with us, as we assembled as dozen eager trainees (with a few amendments from last -me ~ eg Ber-e back from his US trip). We received various -ps & hints, and significant advice in the exac-ng art of conduc-ng interviews, with also the techniques of using the camcorder (essen-al equipment funded by HLF)... Next, the intricacies of edi-ng, which is a painstaking process ! Parkstone-on-Sea: Salterns, Sandbanks & Seaplanes Jeremy’s book is a work of art compiled over many years ! He has surveyed a scene, unravelled the historical context with great dedica-on + a painstaking approach to research. Also, this publica-on has been garnished with its plethora of unrivalled photographs to inform and delight the reader. For those who love this area & history, this book is a must. Groupwork with John Burgess Graphic Messages in a great Cartoon Style ! Eventually, those who have benefi'ed from learning all of this and mastered the challenges involved, will be able to pass the elements of training on to others as we develop our capabili(es and especially the greater confidence which has been built up !
