THE BIESZCZADY MOUNTAINS These beautiful mountains are situated in Eastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border. They are wild, empty and mysterious. No wonder people often come here if they are looking for tranquility and solitude. They are particularly famous for their charming alpine meadows. MAZURY – Masurian Lake District Mazury is called „Land of 1000 Lakes”. It is true – there are lakes everywhere in Mazury, as well as forests, pretty towns and charming villages. People come here to do all sorts of water sports, such as yachting, sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, swimming, diving etc. They also admire the region’s rich wildlife. The largest Polish lake is also situated here. It is called Lake Śniardwy. BIAŁOWIEŻA FOREST An unusual, ancient woodland area situated in Eastern Poland, near the Belarussian border. It is also the first Polish National Park. It is most famous all over the world for its European bison reserve. THE TATRA MOUNTAINS The highest mountains of Poland, situated in the south of the country. The highest peak is called Rysy and it is also the highest mountain of Poland. It is 2499 metres high. THE TABLE MOUNTAINS Rocky mountains in South-Western Poland. They are famous for their unusual shapes, rectangular, almost geometrical (this is where their names comes from). It is also a region with which numerous legends about hidden treasure are connected. THE SAINT CROSS MOUNTAINS The Saint Cross Mountains (Góry Świętokrzyskie in Polish) are the oldest of the Polish mountains, situated in Central Poland. They are not very high, but really charming. MAZOWSZE – central lowlands Central Poland is mainly covered by vast lowlands, most of which are farmlands, fields on which crops are grown.There are also wide, slow rivers, meadows and green forests. WIELKOPOLSKA – Greater Poland Lowlands Situated in Western Poland, Greater Poland is the craddle of our nation. As far as landscapes are concerned, you will see here first of all old, majestic forests, inhabited by numerous species of wildlife, filled with picturesque lakes, streams and rivers.
