Then a credit will be given. "NO SHOWS" will forfeit their class fee to compensate the instructor. 2 Basic Sewing Classes with Adeline Brill = easy/basic skills = intermediate skills = more advanced skills Designworks Primer I This class will walk you through the basics of the NEW Designworks software, including the cutwork, crystal works and paintworks software and tools. I’ll show you how to add your own special touch to your quilts and projects to create a ‘one-of-a-kind’ design. You will need to bring your laptop and dongle to participate in the lesson. Otherwise $25 You CAN Sew It! – Beginner Sewing Class You want to learn how to sew but you are not sure what you want to make? This class is designed to teach the beginner how to sew. For the first class, you will select one of the quick cosmetic bag kits available and try out your sewing skills on it. Then if you are happy with the results, you can choose to make your own project. It can be a clothing item, purse/bag or home décor. Mon. May 5 or June 2 or Aug. 4 5:30-8:30 $25 Tool Time – Sunny Day Lap Quilt Have you purchased the Cutwork tool, Crystalwork tool and Paintwork tool? Have you used it yet? Learn to use the tools creatively with this project. This summertime design will brighten up your day when you wrap yourself in this lap quilt. This quilt was designed in the Bernina V7 Quilter tool and this is a “U-Pick” DesignWorks class. You pick the fabric, the embroidery collection and which tool you will want feature! Sat. Aug. 16 10:00-4:00 $35 Kids Can Be Creative Camp Children ages 10-17 can enjoy some summer fun while sewing three different ‘kid-friendly’ projects. The fun starts at 8 AM and goes until 8 PM. We’ll serve breakfast, lunch and dinner… all variations of Pizza. Fri. Aug. 1 8:00-8:00 $35 includes 3 meals Monday’s Mexican Fiesta continued This award winning quilt from Karen K Buckley is fabulous. I’ve wanted to make it since I saw it in the Houston Quilt show in 2012. Karen’s quilt is hand appliquéd but her instructions are written for both hand and machine. I will be doing mine by machine. Join me on Mondays (once a month) and I will share with you how to turn the edges under and appliqué with the machine. We’ll make it look like hand appliqué. Mon. May 12, June 9, June 30 & Aug. 25 10:00-4:00 Each session $10 Shop Hop Quilt It’s always fun shop hopping with your friends. This year make another fun day by taking a class to make Bernina Sewing Center’s shop hop quilt after you hopped in June. If you did not get to hop, you still can join us. So this year I’m sewing Christmas project throughout the year. Choose a Christmas project (with approval from Debra) and join me for a little bit of Christmas cheer. You can choose one class or all. Actually you don’t have to put them on tables. They look great draped over a chair or chest. Disi Erla has designed a lot of table runners. Choose one or more of her books and let’s have fun all year making table runners. Fri. Choose a mixture of bright batik fabric or a shabby chic collection – either selection will grow a beautiful quilt. Thurs. June 5, 12 & 26 10:00-4:00 $70 Bermuda Bag Great class project for intermediate sewers. Easy to sew using jelly roll fabric strips. Fully lined and lots of pockets make this a great shoulder bag! July 30 10:00-4:00 $30 3 Classes with Shirley Pope Don't Bug Me Let all get a little nostalgic and remember the time of the first bug. No I am not talking about the forty legged creatures I am talking about the bug on tires. Come have some fun making this cute little Volkswagen Bug using your favorite color. We all remember the popularity of the bug and your wall hanging will be just as popular. Learn my tricks to easy machine appliqué. There are many designs to choose from, you pick your favorite and we will order it. Any of her designs are welcome in this class. Sun. Aug. 17 10:00-4:00 $35 Finish That Quilt I know that there are a number of UFOs out there from my classes. Let's take this day to bring those projects and get some help figuring out which way to go to finish them. Bring any project from any of my previous classes and I will do my best to help you finish them. Fri. Aug. 15 5:00-??? $20 Block Of The Month As usual we are still working on our paper piecing, so if you need help with yours come join us for one or all of the months. We have our regulars, but would love to help you finish your paper piece projects. This is a lot of fun and sometimes we actually get a lot accomplished. Tues. May 27, June 24, July 29, Aug. 26 10:00-4:00 $40 Beginning Paper Piecing If you have never done any paper piecing, come take this class and learn the easy way. After you take the class you will be able to join us at the Block of the Month where we have loads of fun, and we learn a lot. We have folks that have come session after session because they have made such good friends at the class. Come join us for the fun. Tue. May 27 10:00-3:00 $30 Twisted Stripper This is a fast and fun quilt to put together in a day. The blocks come together with a partial seam method that is fun to do and very simple. Get ready to have a lot of fun making this super easy quilt and get to be a little twisted stripper in the process. Sun. July 20 10:00-4:00 $35 Kiwi And Limes This class is a new adventure in machine appliqué. We will learn to use only the smallest amount of wonder under on these wonderful circles. Pick your favorite color, add a bit of black and white and you have a super fun quilt. Lets learn to go green and save the wonder under. THIS QUILT IS FUN! Sun, Aug.10, Class #2 will be announced. 10:00-4:00 $45 English Paper Piecing Back by popular demand, come and learn the art of English Paper Piecing. Its fun and easy and is a great project to carry in your purse to keep your hands busy while waiting on others or just to sit and do while watching your favorite TV show. This class has a free kit to get you started. Thurs. May 15 6:00-8:00 $15 Trash Quilt Okay ladies, it's time to use all those odds and ends of fabric that we usually toss in the trash. This is a wonderful quilt with no particular color or design theme. It's a curious mishmash of all the fabrics and leftover blocks we've used in our quilts or fished out of the garbage after a class. Bring those abandoned blocks or those "too ugly to finish" projects and WHACK them up for the trash quilt. We will transform them into a beautiful quilt. It is a fun and unusual quilt. Fri. Aug. 8 10:00-4:00 $35 Funky Hearts If you want to have fun with your embroidery machine, come on out and join us for this embroidery appliqué class. You can keep it simple or really go wild. Here is a chance to use all those bright threads you have and lots of fun fabrics. Sun. June 8 Class #2 will be announced. 10:00-3:00 $45 Classes with Marcia Layton Simply Fun Come and work on any of the “Simply” series of yo-yo embellished patterns by Marcia. You’ll have the choice of “Simply Sunflower”, a great project if you like handwork and want to try all of the different shaped yo-yos available, “Simply Flamingo”, a simple machine appliqué pattern with just a few yo-yos and “Simply Evergreen”, a bright holiday pattern with tiers of heart shaped yo-yos. For those of you who have tried them all we will even offer a surprise “Simply Something”, a new design to be included in the class. More details about that project will follow as the class date nears. Sat. June 7 10:00-4:00 $35 Classes with Delores Lines Clothing Sewing Only This is a class for CLOTHING SEWING ONLY. This class will be structured for you as an individual or you may want to make something for a family member or a friend. The only requirement is that you know how to use your machine and be able to sew a straight seam. You may chose a pattern of your choice and this class will help you learn to read the pattern and make the garment. This class will be limited in size in order to provide you with “oneon-one” instruction. You will work at your own level and ability. Aug. 9 10:00-3:00 10:00-3:00 10:00-3:00 $30 $30 $30 4 Hexie Bouquet Placemats, Centerpiece or Wall Hanging This is another pattern from Easy Peazy Quilts called Hexie Bouquet. It is a fun and easy project. If you haven’t tried applique, you will find this an easy pattern to be your first applique experience. The flowers are made with hexagons and then put on the Bosal Placemat Craft Pack. Tues. June 3 10:00-3:00 $30 Classes with Pat Fairbanks Finish Up Session Simply call for reservations to work with Pat to finish your Bunny or any other previous class project with Pat. There is no charge, but please let us know you will be here and what you will be working on, so that we are prepared to assist you. Fri. May 23 10:00-2:00 No Charge Big Beginning Bear - BETTY You need no experience, Being able to sew a straight line and pin is helpful. (Being familiar with your sewing machine is also helpful.) This would be a fun, "Mother/ Daughter", summer project for you to share together. This soft teddy bear has safety eyes, nose and joints. Everyone will love your teddy bear. Kit includes bear making materials. You will provide the stuffing. Kit fee $30 Wed. June 25 10:00-4:00 $35 Kitty (Cat) and Morty (Monkey) These collectible critters are fun to make, but do require a little experience simply because they require a little more time and patience. Morty is made from imported English Mohair. Kitty is made for one of two imported plush fur choices. We will be doing traditional jointing, some face sculpting, and handstitching the noses. Come see our samples to make your choice. Kit fee $35 Sat. July 26 10:00-4:00 $35 Sweetie (5 inch Mohair Teddy Bear) Sweetie is a small teddy bear that will require more handstitching. He will be jointed and we will be using imported, handmade glass eyes. Your kit will include a prepared costume. Sweetie looks like a Hershey kiss. For those of you that have been asking me for a smaller bear, here he is. Kit Fee $25 Sat. Aug. 16 10:00-4:00 $35 Historic Baltimore Album Block of the Month We are well on our way in this series of classes on the Baltimore Album quilts but you still have time to jump in! This is a series of 10 classes focusing on the techniques and skills you need to have in order to make your very own Baltimore Album quilt. While many of the students are working on an historic pattern from the 1840-1850 period, others are doing modern interpretations of the style. Join us on this adventure to learn the history of these beautiful quilts and a little about the lives of their makers. This is an intermediate/advanced appliqué class so prior knowledge of hand needleturn appliqué is required. **Any 'veterans' of Leslie's previous Baltimore Album block of the month classes are entitled to return for this new cycle at a reduced fee, space permitting. Maggie Walker and More - Block of the Month We have been working on our Maggie Walker quilts for several years now and while we are well on our way for 2014, you still have time to jump in! In addition to Maggie Walker's designs we now invite you to work on any intermediate/ advanced level hand appliqué project of your choice. Join Leslie, Maggie's principal appliqué stitcher, as she shares her 'tricks of the trade' and guides you through your very own advanced applique quilt! Each month she will present a new skill or technique that you will need to complete your project. This is an intermediate/advanced appliqué class so prior knowledge of hand needleturn appliqué is required. **Any 'veterans' of Leslie's previous Maggie walker block of the month classes are entitled to return for this new cycle at a reduced fee, space permitting. May 10, June 7, July 12, Aug. 2 (future dates to be announced) 1:00-4:00 Class fee for the remaining 5 classes is $100 ($50 for veterans) Classes with Leslie Hickland Alphabet Block with Dimensional and Embroidery Embellishments Leslie fell in love with the alphabet blocks in Janice Vaine's book, 'Appliqué & Embroidery Fundamentals'! We will combine hand needleturn appliqué with some dimensional ruched roses, Fishbone Stitch leaves and padded circles. We may even throw in a few beads! Experience with hand needleturn appliqué is required. There is a $3 kit fee payable to the instructor at the beginning of class. Sat May 31 10:00-4:00 $35 Quilt Block Carrying Case Leslie has received so many requests to offer this class again that she has decided to teach this project one more time! The original pattern makes an 18" x 18" portfolio-style carrier but Leslie will give you instructions for a 20" x 20" which fits the large Baltimore Album blocks better. She carries her appliqué blocks in her carriers (she now has 4!) but any blocks or quilt in progress will fee special in this carrier. If you would like Leslie to provide the precut pieces of foam core board needed for this project, please let her know. There will be a fee collected in class for this service. This will be the last time for this class so don't miss it! Sat. June 28 10:00-4:00 $35 5 Classes with Joan Rudolph Star Dazed Great Twister pattern. Pick your size, 6 different sizes, from miniature to king size. In this class you will learn all the basics of constructing a twister quilt (using the twister template) and get a good start on the quilt top. Use your own creativity with the colors you choose. Sat. May 24 10:00-4:00 $35 Summer Star Edyta Sitar from Laundry Basket Quilts describes this as a "quick and delightful pattern with amazing results". Leslie thinks she is right! Each of the 9 stars on this quilt is made from 5 fabrics ranging from light to dark, giving you good definition in the stars. And, don't despair! What looks difficult will have you grinning in no time - a few pins and a quarter-inch foot is all it will take! Join Leslie in making these layered eight-pointed stars! Sat. July 26 10:00-4:00 $35 Classes with Claudia Ingram Free Motion Quilting Get over your fear of free motion quilting. We will stitch the basic shapes needed for successful free motion quilting. Claudia will share different notions that you might find helpful. Wed. May 28 10:00-12:00 $20 Machine Appliqué Primer Learn to machine appliqué the fun and easy way. You can choose from 2 patterns by Pat Sloan. Claudia will discuss thread, fusibles, and stitches. Sat. July 12 10:00-4:00 $35 Summer Sparkler This is another pattern from Kimberly Einmo’s book that we used for Lone Starburst. Many of you already have the book and ruler. Learn methods for precise piecing of this beautiful quilt. Sat. May 31 & June 14 10:00-12:00 $35 Classes with Nancy Smith X Factor Bargello Quilt Let Nancy teach you 'her way' of creating the X-Factor Bargello, a pattern designed by Chris Timmins, This class is for all skill levels from a beginner with basic quilting skills to advanced skills. Fabrics selected include 10 shadings each of two color ways. This Bargello will go together before you know it! Come and join the fun of Bargello quilt making! Sat. Aug. 2 & 23 10:00-2:00 $45 Turtle Mania I love turtles! And this pattern just begs to be made. Three different sizes! You can exercise your own creativity with embellishment, appliqué, and will learn to put a zipper (in the turtle's belly) for a secret hiding place. Great gift for kids and adults. Sat. June 28 10:00-4:00 $35 Sweet Mint The designer named this quilt Sweet Mint, but it reminds me of wagon wheels. It is based on the traditional drunkard's path design and is made easy with the use of acrylic templates for the cutting of the block pieces. In this two day class, you will work with piecing curves and simple appliqué on the block centers. Fri. Aug. 8 10:00-4:00 $35 Classes with Sandy Sash Twisted Flag Another fun twister project! Just in time for the summer Patriotic Holidays. Come join me to make this Twister Flag Wallhanging. It looks complicated yet goes together very quickly. You will definitely have at least one (if not more) done for the 4th of July!! Wed. June 4 10:00-4:00 $35 A Year of Rag Quilts These little rag quilts are just too cute!! And easier to make than you may think! Each block is pieced and quilted separately then sewn together. You can have an authentic homespun look (see my “JULY” flag sample) or a more contemporary look with cotton quilting fabrics (see the September “APPLE” sample). Choose any one month / project from the book and I will teach you the techniques needed to complete your wallhanging. Wed. July 9 & 16 10:00-1:00 $35 The Magical Cat in the Hat Who doesn’t just love The Cat in the Hat? Young and old alike! This Dr. Seuss panel has the entire original story and is showcased in this fun pattern. Collect lots of your favorite “Hat” fabrics plus the panel and let’s make this together. The finished quilt will be a wonderful gift for any child! My “soon to be 3” year old granddaughter will be receiving this one. Shhh! Sat. The “Sewing Café” is open Mondays and Fridays from 10-5. Cost $5.00 per day.
