There are quite a few people I have not heard from yet; as to their desire to play. I am not inviting people to play, as it would be to hard to chase everyone down; you must contact me if you want to be on the Team; everyone is welcome. Our first match is at Burbank, De Bell Golf Club; I need the Team members to let me know when I should set-up the practice round. Here is the list of people I have heard from; Mark Gallant Bob Mora Randy Jackson Pat Canty Kriss Ozols Craig Ozols Kevin Bowers Reeve Haldeman (2x only) JD Culberson Rafael Barajas Doug Peterson Tim Delaney Al Parsakian Kevin Smola Jorge Morales John Cawdry Steve White Cecil Woods Team Play Schedule January 12 - Royal Vista at Burbank January 19 - Bye Week January 26 - Mt Meadows at Royal Vista February 2 - Royal Vista at Mt Meadows February 9 - Burbank at Royal Vista 4 Ken Wheeler - Handicap Chairman Lady and Gentlemen, I been remiss at not writing to tell how honored I was to receive your votes to remain your handicap chair. I hope to continue the tradition of keeping Royal Vista the Best Little Golf Club in America. Congratulations to Chris Ozals for his great start as our Tournament Chair. His first tournament was a large one and he did a super job. Now down to the handicap stuff. I want to spend a little time with you this year writing about the simple things we all know but could use a little reminder. One of the mainstay philosophy of the SCGA is that it is the golfers responsibility to play the best they can on each and every round. By this they mean that you should never (blow) a shot to improve your index. A great example of this is the game of two man better ball. We have all experienced it when one partner makes the score for the hole and the other partner misses a relatively easy putt to be able to card a higher number. This my friends is a no no. This not saying that the putt wasn‛t honestly missed. That is only known by the player and we hope that it was not missed on purpose. Its the spirit of golf and that makes the game so great. 5 Doug Peterson - Treasurer From the Treasurer---No rhythm to start off the new year this time, just a wish to all that you have a good one…new year, not rhythm. You could, after all, be vacationing in Kapalua, Hawaii right now where the pros are playing in their TOC event. The winds on the screen as I write this are at 40 mph plus, sort of like our weather in this years Laughlin tourney, just much prettier. The flag sticks are bent past 90 degrees, but at least it‛s stopped raining and it‛s warm. Maybe Tiger, Phil, Rory, et al were smart to skip this seasons inaugural event, regardless of it‛s large payout to the winners and all who contest in it. Which brings me to my first point…we have money in our treasury to start the new year…$19,000 and change, so yes, were are “solvent”, with no bills yet to pay nor more money to be received. $14,000 of the above total came from “renewal” money, with $5000 carried over from 2012...a far cry from the $65,000 carry over from days long ago. Our SCGA bill and Team Play expenses will take over $5000 from our coffers quite quickly, so, as all can see, your board will have about $14K to run your club in 2013. This is obviously an overly simplified treasurers report but using it and the perspective given last month in this space, hopefully it will answer some of the questions you have about our finances. It isn‛t an exact science kind of budget that we keep but it is a prudent one. (Well, don‛t I sound like the politician…???) I‛m sure Kriss will continue to run our tournament schedule with the same eye on the bottom line as Dennis did and your board will be ever mindful of our shrinking yearly “carry over”. Enough of the numbers and “Bah, Humbug” attitude. It‛s a new year and good things are before us. Our tournament events have been revised, our Palm Springs and Laughlin trips are already in the planning stages with some surprises still to come, and the hit it, find it, and hit it again experience at LARV couldn‛t be better…unless of course more players started to fix more of their divots and raked the sand traps when necessary. Remember, cold weather makes the healing process much slower in the winter. Divots and ball marks that go unattended stay around much longer and DON‛T help players get better scores. Make your New Years resolution to make better scores…I think that‛s a given…by fixing more divots. We‛ll all be better for it. A Healthy and Happy New Year to you all. 6 7
