The Road to Success -
Telemecanique 80 years
1924 - 1980
In 1924, Telemecanique
demonstrated its
technological leadership
by inventing the first bar
contactor. Early into the
1920s, the company
began producing
industrial control
components such as

In 1931, Telemecanique moved outside France to
build a large network of worldwide subsidiaries
between 1950 and 1988, becoming a leading
specialist in Industrial Control.
1980 - today
Telemecanique entered the era of Information
Technology with the knowlege that the future would
consist of intelligent machines and the
understanding that control and information systems
had to be integrated and compatible for high
performance. This initiative was achievable and
growth strengthened when Telemecanique became
a part of Schneider Electric in 1988.
Backed by a brilliant manufacturing background,
Telemecanique confirms its leadership position in
the Industrial Automation market with a focus on
four types of functions with respective key products.
■ Data acquisition using sensors, photoelectric
cells, thermostats and pressure switches
■ Data processing using industrial programmable
logic controllers
■ Human-machine interface using control screens,
lights, keyboards and pushbuttons
■ Power control using contactors, pneumatic
regulators and speed drives
Telemecanique has matched its technological
strength with vibrant business development and
will continue to uphold the recognisation as
Schneider Electric's single, global specialist brand
for Industrial Control and Automation.
Telemecanique is the international brand for Industrial Control
and Automation market

S
chneider Electric and Clipsal Industries
(Holdings) Limited have signed an
agreement for the formation of a 50/50 Joint
Venture (JV) to manufacture and distribute Electrical
Wiring Devices in Asia. Simultaneously, Schneider
Electric has signed an agreement to acquire
ownership of the Electrical Wiring Devices business
of Gerard Industries Pty Ltd in Australia from Clipsal
Industries and the Gerard Family.
These two transactions respond to three key
aspects of Schneider Electric's strategy: the
enhancement of its presence in Asia Pacific, the
acceleration of growth in the Residential and
Buildings markets and the widening of its offer in
the Electrical Wiring Devices field.

Life is precious, counterfeiting is dangerous
Don’t risk losing your loved ones
hen it comes to life and property safety, it is
essential to use high quality electrical
components. Circuit breakers and residual
current circuit breakers have a vital and irreplaceable
function. On necessary occasions, the interruption of
the power supply must be immediate and totally reliable.
It is a matter of life or death. The slightest fault as a result
of using products of uncertain origin is not acceptable.
W
"Made in Schneider Electric" is the answer to this
requirement. It provides the assurance that you are
getting the greatest possible degree of safety. It is also
the best way to show your responsibility and no-nonsense
attitude to the products that you buy.
The "Made in Schneider Electric" guarantee is your
assurance that you are purchasing a genuine product,
either a circuit-breaker or a residual current circuitbreaker, which is not an imitation. Our products benefit
from the highest level of quality procedures, are subjected
to the most stringent control tests and are fully compliant
04
with the current IEC standards. The entire manufacturing
process from design to assembly is all bound by ISO
9001 standards. Finally, you are buying the products
with no risks.
Combating counterfeiting is more than a necessity. So
that you can guarantee maximum safety, for yourself and
your family. To safeguard every human being, we have
highlighted a checklist to help you differentiate the original
product from counterfeit ones.
Any original electrical product SHOULD come with
■ Precise technical specifications
■ Product certification by approved authority
(Singapore experience) - PSB Safety Mark under the
Consumer Protection Act (CPA)
■ PSB Batch Test
■ Sales network of authorised retailers
■ Proof of purchase in retailers (Letter of Authenticity,
product warranty)

The Ultimate Choice in
Motor Control and Protection
TeSys® model U Motor Starter
here has never been a motor control system
quite like Schneider Electric’s new
TeSys® model U. With ingenious simplicity,
®
TeSys model U brings power, protection and
control all together in one incredibly compact,
modular device. It is completely flexible and easily
upgradeable, with a full range of protection,
communication and application modules available
that literally plug into the starter base unit to meet
your specific needs.
T
The TeSys® model U starter consists of the Power
Base Unit, the Control Unit, Communication/
Function Modules and a variety of additional
features. Choose each piece to build the motor
starter that meets your specific application needs.

Reverser Block
Allows a non-reversing power base to be converted
to reversing operation. The reverser block LU2M
is mounted directly beneath the power base without
modifying the width of the product (45mm). The
reverser block LU6M is mounted separately from
the power base when the height available is limited.

2 ratings are available:
- 0…12A (LUB12) and
- 0…32A (LUB32)
Control Units
These must be selected according to the control
voltage, the power of the motor to be protected,
and the type of protection required.
■ Advanced Control Unit (LUCB, LUCC or LUCD):
satisfies the basic protection requirements for
motor starters, thermal overload and shortcircuit, and allows additional advanced functions
such as alarm and fault differentiation.
■ Multifunction Control Unit (LUCM) : suitable for
the most sophisticated control and protection
requirements.
The control units are interchangeable without
rewiring and using tools. They have a wide range
of adjustment (range of four) and low heat
dissipation.
Function modules
They can be used to increase the features of the
starter and must be used with advanced control
units, 4 types are available:
■ thermal overload alarm (LUFW10)
■ fault differentiation and manual reset (LUFDH20)
■ fault differentiation and automatic or remote
reset (LUFDA10)
■ indication of motor load (LUFV), can also be
used with the multifunction control unit
Auxiliary Contact Modules
3 possible configurations :
■ 2 N/O (LUFN20)
■ 1 N/O + 1 N/C (LUFN11)
■ 2 N/C (LUFN02)
Add-on Contact Blocks (not pictured)
They indicate the status of the power base: ready,
fault and pole status.
■ 1 N/O fault signaling contact and 1 N/O contact
indicating control handle in "ready" position
(LUA1C20)
■ 1 N/C fault signaling contact and 1 N/O contact
indicating status of starter power poles
(LUA1D11)
■ 1 N/C fault signaling contact and 1 N/O contact
indicating control handle in "ready" position
(LUA1C11)
Communication Modules
The information processed is exchanged:
■ via a parallel bus using the parallel wiring
module (LUFC00)
Spotlight
■ via a serial bus using either the AS-i module
(ASILUFC5) or Modbus module (LULC031)
used to pre-wire the coil connections to the AS-i
or Modbus modules.
They must be used in conjunction with a 24 VDC
control unit and requires a 24 VDC control voltage.
Connection to other protocols such as FIPIO,
Profibus-DP and DeviceNet is possible via gateway
modules (LUFP).
Because of its simple plug and play modularity,
the TeSys® model U has ten times fewer part
numbers than devices using standard
components, so preparation, selection and
ordering are fast and easy.

Parallel pre-wired coil connections for the power

Stakes for the Singaporean navy
The Delta Frigates are 115m long modular vessels
that displaces 3,500 tons when fully loaded and
have a speed of 25 knots.
On 3 March, 2000 the French government and the
Singaporean government signed an agreement
to supply six vessels through DCNI (Direction des
Constructions Navales Internationale), one of which
was to be constructed at DCN Lorient and the
other five at STM (Singapore Technologies Marine)
in Singapore.
Schneider Electric France (Marine Defence and
Offshore) was contracted by DCNI and STM in
2002.
Schneider Electric Singapore is in charge of
manufacturing the main switchboards for vessels
three to six, as well as associated services
concerning all vessels.
