Joe Carmouche EDM Engineering Design Management Statutory Requirement Building owners and operators face tough challenges in returning a profit during these difficult economic times. Management efforts are therefore focused on main business activities and whilst there is a recognition and acceptance of the need to ensure premises are complying with statutory requirements, often other priorities take precedence. Engineering Design Management have the necessary experience and expertise to assist organisations assess their current level of compliance, identify where their business may be at risk due to statutory non-compliance or potentially violate the terms of insurance cover. A service is offered to building owners and managers comprising a survey of their premises to determine status of compliance for the different systems outlined below. The survey, depending on property size takes one day and is followed up with a report on the findings which are presented to owners or operators. The report will provide a detailed assessment of where systems or procedures are in need of improvement to safeguard the business and identify exposure to litigation or risk. As an additional service Engineering Design Management can produce a computer based testing schedule which defines the appropriate interval of testing for each system and equipment to assist owners or operators plan, manage and meet their obligations. Areas covered in the survey. Environmental Health (Water Systems) Review of potable water systems both private and public Storage of water - local bye-laws Control procedures for Legionella Water temperature anti-scalding protection and testing Health and Safety (Fire) Fire procedure risk assessment Systems Testing: Fire alarm, portable appliance, emergency lighting Health and Safety (small works) Client’s site rules for contractors: register, risk assessments, work procedures Client’s register COSHH, asbestos records Plant Register for insurers test purposes Lifting and pressurised equipment Gas Testing Appliances landlord’s certificate Flue pipe inspection Electrical Systems and Equipment Testing Periodic fixed electrical testing Portable appliance testing Microwave generating equipment Air Conditioning “F” gas regulations Air conditioning energy performance and testing of duct work Joe Carmouche EDM Engineering Design Management Project Management Services Knowledge and experience gained over the last 40 years allows me to offer design, engineering and project management services to clients intending to embark on new build, extensions or renovation work. I strongly believe that good planning and management from concept stage to project completion are essential in delivering a successful project in terms of quality, cost and time scale. If appointed my client would receive my full effort and commitment to ensure the final product meets or exceeds the client’s wishes. Project Management Services. Pre contract phase: - Assistance in developing project brief - Assistance with appointment of design team - Design of mechanical plumbing and electrical services - Advise on energy efficient low carbon systems for heating, and hot water production - Advise on low energy lighting options - Advise on selection of material and help with procurement - Assistance with appointment of contractors and sub contractors - Assistance with setting project time plan - Assistance with determining project costs Contract phase: - Develop site health and safety procedures - Attend technical and construction meetings - Monitor work quality and progress against agreed programme - Cost monitoring - Communications between client and contractor(s) - Assist with final account and handover Joe Carmouche EDM Engineering Design Management Renewable Energy Carbon Reduction Opportunities Engineering Design Management provides a service to owners and operators which will identify opportunities for the installation of energy efficient, low carbon emission systems and equipment. At the initial stage a site survey is carried out at the premises to assess existing engineering systems, plant and equipment. The findings of the survey are evaluated and recommendations made which identify opportunities where equipment and systems can be upgraded or replaced to improve energy efficiency. The benefits will result in less energy being consumed, lower energy costs and a reduction in carbon emissions. Improvements proposed will achieve an acceptable return on capital investment in renewable technology or recommend replacement of existing plant with more energy efficient alternatives. Specifically the survey and evaluation will identify opportunities in: - Space heating and domestic hot water production - Heat recovery, air and water - Comfort and evaporative cooling - Low energy lighting - Photovoltaic - Solar energy - Ground and air source heat pumps - Water saving devices - Voltage optimisers - Combined heating and power plant The survey and recommendations identify opportunities to reduce energy and carbon emissions. Engineering Design Management provide management expertise in processing applications on behalf of owners to obtain “feed in tariffs” or interest free loans through Carbon Trust or other authorities. Engineering Design Management would welcome the opportunity to meet with building owners or operators to discuss where their expertise can assist in reducing both energy usage and carbon emissions. Please contact our office by telephone or e-mail to discuss your requirements further.
