HONOR ROLL OF DONORS 2012 Lindenwoo d Mission Statement Lindenwood University offers values-centered programs leading to the development of the whole person – an educated, responsible citizen of a global community. Lindenwood is committed to • providing an integrative liberal arts curriculum, • offering professional and pre-professional degree programs, • focusing on the talents, interests, and future of the student, • supporting academic freedom and the unrestricted search for truth, • affording cultural enrichment to the surrounding community, • promoting ethical lifestyles, • developing adaptive thinking and problem-solving skills, • furthering lifelong learning. Lindenwood is an independent, public-serving liberal arts university that has a historical relationship with the Presbyterian Church and is firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian values. These values include belief in an ordered, purposeful universe, the dignity of work, the worth and integrity of the individual, the obligations and privileges of citizenship, and the primacy of the truth. Message from the President The Great Story Continues Dear Friends Lindenwood completed another historically notable year in fiscal 2012, complete with the addition of a record number of highly qualified professors, significant growth of its online programs, entry into the first (provisional) year of NCAA Division II membership, and expansion of its world-class athletics facilities. We sustained the air of positive anticipation to which we have become accustomed – and might have even intensified it just a little – as the Chronicle of Higher Education designated the University one of America’s “Great Colleges to Work For” for a fourth year in the last five. At the top of this year’s list of physical plant improvements was the completion of our 43,000square-foot Student-Athlete Center, which provides not only spacious locker rooms for our field sports and offices for dozens of our dedicated coaches, but also plentiful athletic training spaces and a fully equipped academic support suite. The center was supported in part by a matching grant from the Mabee Foundation that was made possible by $1.5 million in donations from myriad friends and supporters of the University. On the eastside, Lindenwood’s Belleville, Illinois, campus (known as LU-Belleville) grew to nearly 2,000 students, with the traditional day college population topping 500. That campus added a number of new majors – including biology, acting, and communications – and began work on what will be a fabulous communications center and broadcast studio. Meanwhile, the LU-Belleville athletics program won the Directors Cup in the United States Collegiate Athletics Association, a designation awarded to the best intercollegiate sports program in that association. Beginning in the fall of 2012, our Belleville branch became a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. What is more, the new football field looks stupendous! I wish to go on record again to point out that very few of these advancements in the Lindenwood brand of higher education could have been realized without your abiding support. In keeping with the inspiring example set by our faithful benefactors each year, we pledge to continue advancing this school in the best service of Lindenwood’s mission and – always, of course – the students. Emergency Textbook Fund* The increasing cost of books, the tools of a student’s trade, sometimes requires help from the Emergency Textbook Fund. University Support Opportunities: Annual Fund* Gifts to the Annual Fund help cover the operating costs of the university so tuition and room and board can be kept affordable for the students. These gifts are unrestricted, which means they are available to be used where the need is the greatest.
