Livingston Piecemakers Quilt Guild Block of the Month Fair Play-12" July 2015 * * S!mPlies olor List ** 1 Color 1 needs: two 4-7/8" squares AND one 5-1/4" square AND one 2-7/8" square (blue or blue print) Color 2 Color 2 needs: two 4-7/8" squares AND one 5-1/4" square AND one 2-7/8" square (red or red print) DColor 3 Color 3 needs: one 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip AND two 4-7/8" squares AND two 2-7/8" squares (white from Jean's) ** ~aring ~ I=~ the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** Start by cutting the Color 3 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles ... Cut one of the Color 1 and Color 2 4-7/8" squares each in half once diagonally to make two half square triangles of each ... Cut the Color 1 and Color 2 5-114" squares in half on both diagonals to get four quarter square triangles of each. You only need two of each for this block .. LSJ,,-,,, ~ ">" LSJ ',,',<>, ""'>~' = '< = ",','~: Stack the remaining Color 1 and Color 2 4-7/8" squares right sides together with Color 3 4-7/8" squares. On the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal, and then stitch 114" away from the drawn line on both sides, to get two half squares from each. Cut apart on the drawn diagonal line. Press to the dark sides. These should measure 4-112" ... rsJ=iJ . ~ Repeat the above step Usmg Color 1, 2 and 3 2-7/8" squares. ~ L:Y=~ These should measure 2-1/2" ... Now sew the Color 1 and Color 2 quarter square triangles together to make one Quarter square for the block's center unit These should measure 4112" .... ". ~~~ ~ ~ ~~~ ~ To make the block's comer units, sew a Color 3 half square triangle to the bottom of a Color 1 half square. Press seam towards triangle. Add another Color 3 HST to the right of the half square. Sew a Color 1 half square triangle to this pieced triangle. Make two units like this, and two more using Color 2 half squares and half square triangle. These should measure 4-1/2" ... rI Now layout all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, ~ pressing top and bottom row seams to the center and middle row seams to the outside. join the rows and the Fair Play Block is done'
