Williamson Community
Leadership Program
Now in its 25th year, the Williamson Community Leadership
Program (WCLP) offers one of Australia’s most sought-after
leadership development experiences.
This rigorous ten-month experiential
program uses the Harthills Leadership
Development Profile, seven stages
of consciousness and Harvard
methodologies in adaptive leadership and
group relations to examine your current
leadership style, strengths and areas
for development. At the same time, this
unique program exposes you to a range
of diverse experiences, guest speakers
and contributors, including your peers in
the room, to explore the social, economic
and environmental issues, and their
leadership challenges, which influence
and impact the community and our
operating environment.
Bring these two streams together in a
collaborative, challenge-based learning
project and workplace activities to stretch
and test your leadership in action.

Our Unique Approach
•A framework which draws on the best
leadership development research and practice
from around the world, including Rooke
and Torbert’s Seven Transformations
of Leadership, and elements of adaptive
leadership (Heifetz and Linsky), situational
leadership (Blanchard et al) and emotional
leadership (Goleman et al)
•Adaptive Leadership: understand the
difference between adaptive and technical
leadership, and how to apply adaptive
leadership to change management
•Immunity to Change Process®: learn how
to identify the mindset and behaviours which
become the barriers to change; understand
how to develop a pathway to overcome these
barriers and implement change
•Both horizontal (technical skill development)
and vertical development (increasing the
capacity to learn) through exposure to new and
diverse experiences, people and ideas
•Engaging and varied adult learning
activities and strategies where participants
take ownership, contribute and play a
leadership role, practicing leadership in a safe
environment
•Building learning from the knowledge,
experience and diversity within the group
•Strategies and activities to build the cohort
into a connected peer support group with a
common purpose and trust, which will endure
beyond the program
•Collaborative, challenge-based actionlearning projects
Diving deeply into leadership – WCLP ‘14
In 2014, participants in the Williamson Community Leadership Program enjoyed an
intensive, experiential program that took them on a ‘deep dive’ into leadership in action. The impact for participants has been wide-ranging and long-lasting.
• Networks: Understand the value of building strategic
personal and professional networks
“I can already see this having positive impacts on my capacity to do great work,” says Maria
Cameron, Senior Policy Advisor with the Department of Health and a WCLP ’14 graduate.
“I’ve taken ideas from WCLP and shaped them into suggestions for new ways we can do
things at work. The head of my organisation has responded very positively to one particular
suggestion I made based on my WCLP experience, and I look forward to seeing it take shape
in coming months. I also took on an entrenched workplace issue and tackled it head-on,
which contributed to a positive outcome on this issue for my organisation. I don’t think I
would have pursued it without the support at a critical point from a WCLP colleague.”

Benefits for
your organisation
• Develops and retains executive talent searching for
opportunities to expand their leadership
Luke Sullivan, General Manager of Asset Management at Orica, says the program has taught
him the importance of leaders thinking outside their own fields.
• Builds and grows networks across the business,
community and government sectors
“I believe it is essential that those with the potential to be great leaders are challenged to
think beyond their immediate domain. The exposure to dissimilar industries and issues of
community ensures that leaders grow beyond their innate abilities, to truly be effective in
leadership roles.”
• Creates a diverse, leadership-orientated culture
• Enhances the self-awareness and skills of leaders
• Improves the networking and acquired diversity of
leaders
”I work in a global corporate organisation. Williamson has brought a balanced perspective
of the challenges of not-for-profit and government as well as the corporate sector. I see my
efforts going forward maintaining this exposure to all business sectors and Williamson has
instilled a commitment to engage more closely with my communities.”
• Gains practical skills that can be applied across the
organisation
2014 WCLP graduates Maria Cameron and Luke Sullivan.
